Everyone loves fireworks. Brilliant bursts of light in the sky celebrate weddings, sporting events, and holidays such as New Year's and July 4th.
But there has never been an English children's picture book about fireworks or its essential ingredient... gunpowder.
So kids and adults get ready! With your help, we'll publish an entertaining and educational adventure on how these inventions came from Asia and changed the world!
Immedium inspires a world of imagination! We have published nearly 50 wonderful children's picture books, such as the original series of The Octonauts, which launched the hit animated TV series worldwide. More than 40% of our titles feature multicultural themes and diverse characters.
Now we have a spectacular sequel. It is about a pair of fantastic innovations from Asia that will light up your life!
Like all children, Emma and Ethan are curious and like learning. Luckily the cute red panda Dao is their tour guide! Dao can take them back into time to discover how cool things were created in Asia long ago... remarkable and famous products that belong in The Asian Hall of Fame!
Gunpowder is one of the "Four Great Inventions" of ancient China. It is still considered one of the most important inventions ever in human history - even in the modern age of the Internet!
Gunpowder was the key to make fireworks. These cute critters certainly do enjoy watching bright lights in the big city. But they don't know how fireworks came to be.
This next batch of characters like putting on a show and might have a clue...
This guy below might be the most familiar with using (and misusing) this explosive stuff. But he didn't come up with our book idea... The Discovery of Fireworks and Gunpowder!
Get ready to see how people discovered the magical formula of gunpowder and how fireworks soon would make every celebration special.
Here are sneak previews of our story!
Juan's illustrations have an exciting comic book style.
Every scene comes alive with dynamic perspectives, motion, and energy.
Plus there are many double-page spreads which burst with color and detail.
Emma and Ethan hear and see firecrackers. Now they want to learn more.
Dao arrives on the spot and our journey begins...
Zap! They transport themselves into the past.
Suddenly they find themselves in ancient China around 1 AD.
The trio zips through the centuries to see how alchemists who sought the magic elixir of eternal life discovered the formula of gunpowder.
"Printing, paper money, porcelain, tea, restaurants, gunpowder, the compass-the number of things that Chinese of the Song Dynasty (A.D. 960-1280) gave to the world is mind-boggling." - NOVA, PBS
Boom! Chinese dynasties experimented with this explosive substance to create 4 types of weapons:
the flamethrower, bomb, missile, and gun.
This is the Big Bang Theory put into practice! But as the secret of gunpowder spread so did fireworks. These joyful rockets got more colors, shapes, and fans in every corner of the Earth.
So far, we've gotten rave reviews thus far about our story:
"Entertaining and educational, The Discovery of Fireworks & Gunpowder blends science, history, and folk tales in a fun and exciting children's story. The Asian Hall of Fame characters' friendship and cheerful traits will captivate children and teachers as well."
- Leticia Sanchez, Head of Cultural Experience, Dr. Sun Yat-sen Classical Chinese Garden, Vancouver, Canada
