Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments, messages and support. Here’s what we’ve been up to over the past couple of weeks:

Early projects from our community

Some of our alpha and beta testers have been building and sharing their projects. We are excited to see what you can create and hope to share more of these with you in the coming updates.

Aleksander has been building a drone using a Creator Ci40 dev board, check out his code on GitHub. He’s got the motors running and is using a 3D Motion Click for the sensory inputs to his flight control inputs. He sent this video of the rotors running. He noticed that sometimes the power goes to idle when he changes the power setting; if you’ve got any ideas on that he would be keen to hear your thoughts:

Tom has been working on a wireless speaker controller, detecting motion with a Clicker and enabling and disabling wireless speakers using UPNP. He’s currently working on building a mobile app and controlling volume of speakers remotely. He sent this video.

The latest production update

As mentioned in our last update, we have resolved the factory issue, the procurement is well under way for a larger volume build of Creator Ci40 kits. We had a very small initial prototype build with a slight modification which improved our RF performance (you can see the results later in this update). The quality of the boards looks good so far but more testing is underway.

We are working closely with our partners at MikroElektronika and progress is going nicely with the procurement for the larger volume build of kits. We have received some pre-production prototypes of the Clickers which have incorporated the feedback from our alpha and early beta testers - you can see the differences between the old and new 6LoWPAN Clickers below.

Our plan is still on track for an end-to-end test for the entire kit to ensure our supply lines are all properly set up. We are also still on track for our mass production boards in the first week of July and kits available in the second week of July for you all to hopefully receive your Creator kits and rewards in July. We will update you if anything changes.

We also plan to send out surveys by the end of next week. If you could return them as soon as you can, it would help our team.

Performance testing shows impressive 6LoWPAN range

Last week, the team at Cascoda went to a disused airfield in the middle of the New Forest in Hampshire, UK to do some testing. This was an ideal location as it was a large open space with minimal interference to test the latest version of the Creator Ci40 boards with the new Cascoda 802.15.4 radio processors on board.

With one Creator Ci40 acting as the sender and the other as the receiver, they ran ping tests continually between two boards as one member of the team walked backwards with the receiving device. We expected the range to be good based on the lab tests, but we really were not prepared for how good the results would be!

The GPS position of the sender and final receive positions were over 900 metres apart!

Hi Steven, we haven't done any testing inside an office building but we hope to get started soon.

The range is pretty nice, how well does this perform in noiser areas such as offices and such?
