The Brick you see in the trailer is modeled after point-and-click heroes of our youth. Generic machismo and snark. He's 130 years out of his time, though, and that's important. He's in a world where that's not enough anymore.
We want to evoke a nostalgic experience, and build on it. Brick should get a chance to learn, and the player along with him.
