Jazz singer turned chef, Tim Hauser of The Manhattan Transfer wants you to try his premium tomato based Italian style pasta sauces.
****PROJECT UPDATE We reached our first goal of $20K but that is just the beginning, now we are FUNDED- which was our minimum for getting any of the pledged funds - this is exciting! Now we are shooting for $30,000-$35,000 by June 5th at 7 pm PST so we can bring our 4th sauce variety into the production with the first three. We also can do the artwork necessary and get our distribution set up right so we can get set up properly to do our test market on Amazon. But this is the update - please read on and you can hear how this all started! THANK YOU and we will keep pushing towards our goal - to go over $30,000 by June 5th! We hope you can pick out a reward that suits you - try the sauce, get a tshirt, go on a tour, they are all fun! THANK YOU!****
Hi everyone, I’m Tim Hauser. You may recognize me from The Manhattan Transfer, the vocal group I founded and have been singing with for over 40 years. I love music...I love singing, touring and recording… but, I also love food... I love to eat, and I love to cook. All the years I’ve spent on the road exposed me to many different types of food but the one kind I couldn’t get enough of was in Italy. There was just something about the pasta sauce that was different than anything I’d ever had and I wanted to learn to make it at home for my friends and family. So I started experimenting in the kitchen and after a whole year I finally had a batch that I felt was “it”. Several friends were at my house at the time and some of them came into the kitchen and tried the sauce. One of them said “You know, this is the best pasta sauce I’ve ever tasted. It’s certainly better than anything you can find in the supermarket. You should sell it.” And I thought…“Sell it? I never intended to sell the sauce.”
But, I started making more sample jars using the same great ingredients, no sugar and very little salt. I experimented with more varieties and sent them out to more friends and colleagues. And, I kept getting the same response. And like my music it became a passion. Suddenly putting it on the market didn’t sound so crazy because the response was so overwhelming. So, due to the never- ending urging of friends and family I’m launching my line of pasta sauces.
Oh, and the name for my sauce is one that you won’t easily forget, it’s called... “I MADE SAUCE!”. Let me explain… I grew up on the New Jersey shore in the 1950’s. A lot of my friends were Italian American. So many times I can remember being at their homes when their moms would call out from the kitchen and say – "Hey Timmy why don’t you stay for dinner, I made sauce." So there you go. Some people get it and some people don’t but that’s it. Why don’t you stay for dinner "I MADE SAUCE!"
So...that’s what brings me to Kickstarter. In order to get it up and running I need to raise a minimum of $20,000. Now, you might be thinking that $20,000 doesn’t sound like enough to get a new food product going and you’d be right. That is the minimum amount we need to raise to get started. Our hope is that we can raise more, and be able to really get our product test market launched with $30,000- $35,000. Here’s the deal… I have some investors that are interested in backing me but they want to make sure that there’s enough interest before they go forward. So, I need YOU to help me show THEM that people are interested in my product.
The first $20,000 will pay for production costs and the online distribution of the first three varieties. It will cover some of the design and artwork of the label and new logo. Read about the artist creating the new logo and label here. Basically everything we need to get set up to make my sauces available online. Then you can try them for yourselves. Once the investors see that happen and that we get repeat orders they’ll take it to the next step.
I’ve got some great and interesting incentives for you too so please check those out. They are listed to the RIGHT ---> and you can see pictures in a video here: *INCENTIVE PICS*
Listen to what other people have to say about my sauce…
CHERYL BENTYNE (one of my partners with The Manhattan Transfer): No added sugar, Cheryl grew up with sauces that had sugar and never experienced a savory real good tasting sauce, until she tried Tim's pasta sauce.
MELISSA: A real foodie (self described "sauce snob"): Melissa was prepared to dislike "I MADE SAUCE!" She makes her own and has never found a jarred sauce that she likes. See what she says after tasting Tim Hauser's "I MADE SAUCE!".
JOE: Growing up in a large Italian family on the East Coast, Joe does know a good sauce when he tastes it. Hear what he has to say about "I MADE SAUCE!"
Billy Vera: Even though Billy is a great friend of Tim's, they both share a love of great sauce and great music. Billy had a jar of Tim Hauser's "I MADE SAUCE!" and stretched it out for a week. Had it on penne, spaghetti, you name it. He says it's "GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD!" Oh Billy.
Why do the "I MADE SAUCE!" recipes taste so good?
Like I said, I never intended to sell the product originally so cost was never a factor. I went out and bought the finest ingredients I could find... Premium California tomatoes and herbs and never used sugar. I also use very little salt. If you average out all my varieties collectively they have the lowest level of sodium of any pasta sauce on the market. Which by the way we have SEVEN varieties - and more in the works.
Original Recipe * San Remo Marinara * Tomatoes with Arugula & Walnuts
These first three varieties will be offered in this KickStarter campaign.
Stay tuned for four more: Tomatoes with Clam Broth, Mild Arrabbiata, Arrabbiata and EXTREME Arrabbiata. Yes that's right - we have a HEAT line!
Check out DESCRIPTIONS for our first three varieties HERE.
The DUPREES: Look who stopped by to talk about “I MADE SAUCE!” New Jersey vocal group and Tim’s good pallies “The Duprees” famous for their hits including “You Belong to Me” and “Have You Heard”. Thanks guys!
Lowell: Best selling author of true crime who has openly stated he is willing to commit one if he can't have Tim Hauser's "I MADE SAUCE!" on a regular basis. Hear Lowell describe the flavor and characteristics that make this sauce stand out.
Now a lot of products that are sold as low sodium taste terrible, why does "I MADE SAUCE!" taste so good? When I was a kid we didn’t use salt at all because my father had heart issues. I didn’t use salt at all when I started on the recipes. Some people actually came to me and said “You gotta put some salt in.” So I put just a little bit in and that’s all it needs.
The sauces are cooked European style with various stages of reduction depending upon the recipe. As the sauce cooks down and the water cooks out, the concentrated flavor becomes more bold and rich. Most sauces brands don’t do multiple reductions because it’s too expensive.
Brian and Matt: Two guys who choose low sodium but don't want to sacrifice taste.
Now dig this, in the end of the cooking process, I infuse with extra virgin olive oil. (6 of the 7 flavors have this infusion.) It’s the only sauce on the market that I know of, that does this. When you look at the label of any pasta sauce it will either say, Olive oil, Pure olive oil, or extra virgin olive oil. (Which indicates what oil they are sautéing with). I sauté with pure olive oil and then at the end I infuse with extra virgin olive oil and that’s where I get my flavor because it doesn’t cook. That’s what really contributes to the great flavor of I MADE SAUCE.I believe that if you try it, you’ll want it again and again.
We just want you to TRY it!
THANK YOU for considering supporting this campaign! We appreciate it and hope you'll enjoy the rewards and being a part of our founding supporters! Please check out our INCENTIVES listed on the right, we have something for everyone and every level of financial support!
Why don't you come over for dinner tonight? "I MADE SAUCE!"
Thank you - from the "I MADE SAUCE!" team!
Very sincerely yours, Tim Hauser
Risks and challenges
We have planned our campaign out as detailed and with the most sincere desire of fulfilling all our incentives within our promised time period. We could have delays with unusual circumstances regarding ingredient shortages or logistics with our fulfillment house, however we have done our very best to forecast any potential problems and we are committed to keeping our word and satisfying all our donors with what they were promised. Integrity always comes first.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Great question. I've gotten this question a lot. On Kickstarter you have to raise your minimum amount (which for us is $20,000) in order for you to get any of the pledges. Our broker and our budget dictates we really need closer to $35,000 to properly manage the labeling, legal, production/manufacturing and distribution for the test market we wish to do (as listed above) in the next year on Amazon.com. We hope to get to $20,000 at our halfway point in the campaign and then get closer to $35,000 as it gets closer to the end. Thank you for considering supporting our campaign for "I MADE SAUCE!".
