What is One Man's Trash?
One Man's Trash is both my upcoming debut LP and a legacy project, which began as my father's final lens of the world he unexpectedly departed from on November 24th, 2010. John Clark Pegg (JCP) was a lawyer-turned-painter, creating well over 2,000 works during his final five years of life, nearly all of which were left behind in a storage space in the mountainous region of Northern Georgia. Painting on canvas, cardboard, construction refuse, and countless other mediums pulled from trash heaps and second-hand stores, JCP uncovered beauty in the refuse of others.
In Spring 2012, I had finally saved up enough money to quit my job, purchase an old van & trailer (painted by my incredibly talented friend Louis N. LaPierre), drive from MN to GA, load up all of his art, and bring it back home to MN.
Once back in MN, I lived in a tent in a friend's backyard for three weeks, utilizing a two car garage as an art studio to hang, measure, label, photograph, and archive each individual piece of JCP's work. This journey has been a test of my mental and physical limits, as well as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Who am I?
My name is Patrick Cavan Pegg (PCP), I am a multimedia producer / musician based in Minneapolis, MN and JCP's youngest son. Over the past six years, I have done extensive work within the Twin Cities hip-hop community, filming and recording handfuls of projects for other musicians; worked in the Westside Saint Paul after-school community, providing a safe and productive learning environment for youth interested in learning production / songwriting skills, and spent countless hours honing and developing my craft by writing and recording my own material.
In February 2013, I holed up in a spaceship and worked for weeks on end to release my first entirely Self-Composed / Engineered / Mixed / Mastered / Produced project, Peace EP (Phuket!), and have nearly finished my first LP, One Man's Trash, which I am offering in several formats as incentive to donate to this campaign.
I am also an established videographer. Here's a YouTube Playlist of several video projects which I have produced within the last year or so:
In addition to my main occupations, I love shooting photos. Want a professional photo session for yourself? Maybe your family? How about your pet? Take a peek at the PHOTOBOMB donation incentive and click the photo below to peruse my Flickr account:
I come to you today asking for financial support in helping me wrap up and press my LP, the proceeds of which will be used to begin the process of sharing my father's art with the world.
Why would YOU give ME money?
I've researched Kickstarter campaigns for several months, and I believe I am offering truly unique incentives to donate to my cause. One Man's Trash is a great example of the symbiotic nature of artistic creation: My LP wouldn't exist in its current state without the experiences I have had as a result of pursuing and preserving my father's art. This album exists because his art existed, and with my help, so can yours. I want to help YOU bring YOUR vision from your mind's eye to reality.
Are YOU an aspiring creative? Singer? Songwriter? Emcee? Producer? Are YOU looking to record or bring your songs to the next level? Are YOU looking for someone to capture your daughter's wedding? YOUR son's first guitar recital? YOUR niece's birthday party? YOUR nephew's graduation? YOUR grandchild's baptism? Do YOU wish YOU had an important day captured in the life of YOUR family? Friends? Loved Ones?
Because, with my help, you CAN. Whether capturing professional artists or your child's first steps, I take every project as a profoundly intimate way of envisioning dreams into reality, and I am willing to risk my reputation as an artist to prove it.
Your pledges will be used to:
- Finish Production of PCP's debut LP "One Man's Trash".
- Press CDs and Vinyl of PCP's debut LP "One Man's Trash".
- Offset costs incurred by storage & preservation of JCP's works.
Any amount I raise over my goal will be put towards the next step in the larger picture of One Man's Trash: web development. The virtual art gallery I envision for JCP's works will take time and money to develop, and a majority of proceeds from my LP will go towards funding this effort. My father's legacy is the most important project I have ever been a part of, and I want to sincerely thank ANYONE who donates ANY AMOUNT to help with my efforts.
I leave you with ONE of THOUSANDS of JCP's works. I can only create what I envision with YOUR help!
Your support truly means the world to me.
See ya when I see ya,
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk associated with this project is perhaps the most powerful incentive for me to succeed: my reputation, both as an artist and as a human being. I believe wholeheartedly in the powerful transformation hidden in the depths of my father's final expressions, and I'm willing to put my reputation as a producer on the line to unveil JCP's art to the world in the only way I see fit.
The challenges to my audio / visual skill sets, creative demands, and production output will be intense. Depending on how I receive my funding, I could end up spending the next year of my life traveling around the world, meeting new artists and creatives, working with others to bring their creative visions to life… or not. This all depends on YOU! This will be a test of my organizational skills, project management, and creative expression like no other previous project I have ever undertaken.
For me, working alongside others in manifesting a vision into reality is the most satisfying part of the collaborative process. I look forward to tackling any challenges which may arise from the successful funding of this project, because it will only help me grow and build as an artist.
I will be very involved in this campaign to raise funds for preservation and promotion of my father's legacy, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
