Who we are....
We formed Illuminatus Comics with a passion for high-quality graphic storytelling. A comic shouldn’t just tell a story, it should evoke an emotional response in the reader. We want to transport the reader into the story, make relatable characters and give the reader a chance to grow. Take Your Kid to Work Day is our first attempt to tell a story which will leave such a mark on the reader. Who knows? Maybe it will even help someone.
Please be sure to like our Facebook page for all the latest updates on our current and upcoming projects. https://www.facebook.com/IlluminatusComics/
Take Your Kid to Work Day is the story of a boy named Dennis, who comes from recently divorced parents. The divorce has left Dennis with many emotions and insecurities he can't quite process. The divorce is the result of several factors including the father’s obsession with his work as a psychologist under contract with the U.S. military. His work is top-secret in nature and even he does not know the intended use of his research and developments. This obsession and secrecy has driven a wedge between him and his wife and keeps him from being the engaged father that his son wants and needs.
One afternoon while working on his homework Dennis receives a phone call from his dad. Dad has invited Dennis to come to “Take Your Kid to Work Day”. Mom does have some concerns. In the wake of the divorce, Dennis has been having nightmares quite frequently. Mom is afraid that Dad, with his background in psychology, may pry too deep while trying to help. Despite her concerns, it is decided that Dennis may attend.
The next day, Dennis and his father head in to the office, at a military base just outside of town. That's when things get a bit serious.
Meet the cast.....
The creative team...
Damian Starr -
Damian Starr’s day job is to serve as a bookkeeper for a large property management company. Bookkeeping is a very black and white (or black and red) profession which does not come with creative opportunity. So when a good friend with a strong artistic background (Peter Goffstein) enlisted his help with writing a graphic novel, Damian quickly got on board.
Damian got into comics over 20 years ago – right around the time Superman was killed, and the birth of Image Comics. He mainly focuses on self-contained stories like graphic novels, over single issues or long runs.
Peter Goffstein -
Peter Goffstein, like many other kids, loved to draw. But, as we all know, artists are big kids that never stopped drawing. Peter took his passion for the arts to the pursuit of a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute with a major in painting. As a practicing artist, Peter has shown his paintings in several galleries and competitions. As a career, Peter chose the commercial arts. He has worked alongside amazing talent in the creative fields and strives to even greater success. Now, his vast experience and love for fine arts and graphic arts have finally combined with his passion for comics.
Peter Goffstein's wraparound cover variant will contain some exclusive bonus content, including - added concept art, an additional foreword/afterward, and other great content.
Variant cover artists......
Jon Running -
Jon has been drawing since he was child. His work caught the eye of Damian Starr a couple years ago. Damian was intrigued by the amount detail in Jon's drawings. Jon is a big fan of horror films and specializes in horror art, but isn’t afraid to step out of that to do some amazing drawings in other genres. More of Jon's work can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/c777mc/
Cary Vallery -
Cary is a self-taught artist with a deep love for comics who enjoys sharing this passion with others. His inking gives amazing depth and definition to his works and his coloring is among the most rich I have seen, his colors really pop. Check out his store at https://www.kidferlife.com/
Paul Kisling -
Paul graduated From the Kansas City Art Institute with a degree in animation. He spends his days sticking out like a sore thumb in Japan (due to this fact he is unavailable for signing). Give his comic, Protectre a look at https://tapas.io/series/Protectre/ and check out his animation work at Vimeo.com/Paulkisling
Nikki Clifford -
Nikki’s background in art comes from a lifelong passion for all things creative. She has been reading, writing, and drawing since the age of four. As a child, Nikki also worked in clay in her mother’s ceramic and craft shop, learning foundations in hand building and mold pouring. In her lifetime, she has won countless writing and art awards, as well as college scholarships that gave her the opportunity to experience art and social culture outside of her small rural hometown in Missouri. Nikki loves the graphic novella, and has collected comics for over ten years. She currently loves to draw and illustrate, as well as paint fine art paintings in oil. Nikki resides in Springfield, Missouri, with her partner Rebekah, daughter Antigone, and furry pooch Nathan

Risks and challenges
The 3 major hurdles one faces in a project like this are
1) making the book
2) funding the book
3) delivering the book
Here's how we are tackling them....
Making the book - We had the script done for this issue months before we ever announced this campaign. This allowed us enough time to nearly complete the art in advance as well. We have a printing company chosen for the book and all rewards.
Funding the book - This is where you come in, we can't make this happen without your help, please share this project with your friends. We are passionate about this story and hope that once you have read it, you are passionate about it as well. We have already begun work on issues 2 and 3 and hope to to deliver all 3 installments of this story to your doorstep.
Delivering the book - Most of the art is completed already, we have already bought shipping supplies and are ready to go. Signed books might be delayed by 2 weeks or so, as they need to be shipped to the various artists for signature.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
