$50K STRETCH GOAL!
Help me add all the finishing touches to make an epic Burning Man film. How funds will be spent. This is where I need your help, I've already fully funded the pre-production and production costs. The footage has been fully shot, however, finishing a film is still costly. I'm hoping we can raise upwards of $50,000+ to really make the film I've always imagined. The funds for this campaign will go towards Post Production team expenses such as:
- Editing - Music Composition / Score - Sound Design - Color Grading & Correction - Sound Mix- Finishing / Authoring - Title Animation & Credits - Festival/exhibition related costs
I'm excited to present my short film "IGNITE" which will give you a cinematic journey into what it's like to be at Burning Man.
Featuring original music by Grammy Award winning composer Lorne Balfe (The Dark Knight, Inception, Lego Batman Movie, Ghost in the Shell, Genius), Ignite will be a Burning Man experience unlike any other.
My dream has always been to share with my friends, family, and people I meet what it feels like to be there. I mean TRULY capture from the attendees perspective the wonder, joy, and full range of emotions that are felt when they come home to Black Rock City. When people ask me what it's like to go each year, I typically respond "you just have to see for yourself." Words just don't do it justice. So now with this film, my goal is to simply say watch "Ignite" and hopefully it'll spark curiosity for people to attend for themselves.
This short film will be my love poem to Burning Man. When veteran burners watch it I want them to feel nostalgic like they're being transported back onto the Playa.
Since the first time I stepped onto the Burning Man playa in 2007 I've been dreaming of the opportunity to capture the magic that happens out there.
Burning Man is something that cannot be described in words, therefore I feel this is the best way of expressing it in a visual format. After all these years of attending I've been able to develop a clear vision for what I feel truly represents what it's like to be there. Authenticity is really important to me. My intention is to show how people connect with one another, the art, and the community. Again, the art and mutant vehicles are wonderful to showcase, but my focus is ultimately on sharing how Burning Man makes people feel. How the event truly affects its participants and how they in turn interact within the event. Capturing the human element and connectedness within Burning Man in a non-verbal way is what I intend to illustrate in Ignite.
UPDATE: we're done filming. Of over 70,000 attendees this year, we were 1 of 25 in total that were granted all access to film it by the event organizers. The production phase is complete and we've got some mind blowing footage to share.
The timing was perfect for 2017... I feel like the team I've assembled over the years is truly ready to be able to do Burning Man justice. I have pulled every favor I can so far and spared no expense in making this a truly cinematic experience. To date I've spent over $25,000 of my own money to cover pre-production and production costs to make sure I bring the best team to make my vision a reality. We used cameras equipment like the Red Weapon 8K Helium which was the same camera used to film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and "Transformers: The Last Knight."
The great news is we're completely done filming and we have incredible footage to show you. So now all we need to do is edit it into a finished film, compose music for it (see more about our Grammy Award winning composer below), and finish the film in 4K so you can experience it as we did.
