Update 3: $2mm, 25k backers, Diamond Loupe

Another day, another stretch goal obliterated like so many medusa heads! Your efforts have earned you yet another goal: Boss Rush Mode, a one-way trip through every boss in Bloodstained.

What’s great about Boss Rush mode is its versatility: You can use it as a means of torturing yourself or a way of learning how to defeat bosses faster and more efficiently without having to make your way up and down every last castle stairwell.

Visible next in your Crystal Lens is one of our personal favorites: Classic Mode. This is a cool one, especially if you've been playing action platformers since controllers had two buttons: In Classic Mode, existing assets and screens from the game will be rearranged linearly, to reward timing and survival instead of backtracking and exploration.

IGA and company are still too early in the planning process to promise anything, but right now he's envisioning six punishing stages. In grand classic platformer fashion, you'll be weaker and the enemies will be stronger, and forget about saving yourself by grinding—no RPG elements here.

If you've always preferred your castles punishingly difficult, straightforward, and scrolling from left to right, this is the stretch goal for you.

A Reward For Crushing Our Expectations

We probably shouldn't have doubted you. Once upon a time, back before you shattered our Kickstarter goal in one day, we thought you'd be getting the Diamond Lens right about now, with plenty of castle stretch goals still to unlock.

Instead, because you are amazing, you've ALREADY hit the bottom of the castle. Once you unlock the Retro Level and Classic Mode it'll just be you and the locked door to the castle dungeon, where some very big stretch goals—ones we only dreamed of including—lie in wait.

That means your Diamond Lens, which you are about to unlock, is worthless: you've already seen the Castle goals.

If you had to destroy our carefully planned backer achievement system, we're glad you did it like this.

As a reward, then, you've earned five bonus achievements, effective immediately. That brings you within two of the Malevolent Medal, and 12 away from unlocking the Basement Key that will let you collect all the stretch goals you're about to start earning.

Since you didn't really get a chance to use it, we've also asked pixel-IGA's personal jeweler to transmute your Diamond Lens into a Diamond Loupe, which will magnify your view of the castle room in which you find yourself. It should only take a few days, so we'll explain its new powers as soon as it's ready...

25,000 Backers!

On Thursday we hit a very exciting round number: 25,000 backers so far! Just as amazing as that number has been the way in which you've been showing your enthusiasm for IGA and the game.

There's far too much for us to mention in this update—for more, check out http://iga-bloodstained.tumblr.com —but here's some of the cool stuff we saw on our travel through the #igavania and #bloodstained tags yesterday:

To have 25,000 backers and so much cool stuff appear out of thin air in just four days... well, it's exciting, to say the least. And we can't wait to see what the next 25,000 will come up with.

For more Bloodstained art, and to submit your own comics for the weekly comics challenge, head to our Tumblr: http://iga-bloodstained.tumblr.com or tag art on your own Tumblr as #IGAvania. Believe us, the developers and artists appreciate it: Nothing keeps designers and developers going like great art and music inspired by their work.

What's the coolest fanmade Bloodstained stuff you've seen so far? We want to see it!

A/V Update Coming Soon!

This update is just because you hit 25,000 and $2 million so fast. Your regularly scheduled Friday backer update, celebrating our first Audio-Video Day, is coming up soon!

In addition to your first Vine Challenge, we've got the first #AskIGA video ready for you. We'll see you there!

Backed and SO looking forward to all of this. This is everything i have wanted from gaming for so long--since I first started gaming as a child and some of that childhood fun and challenge had disappeared from modern platformers.

I just wish you guys put a lot of attention into small details while working on graphics. After watching IGA playing SOTN, I think that's an important thing to make every IGAVANIA game unique.

      Classic Mode: Definitely a fan!

Classic Mode - Good idea, just don't make it an after thought. Put as much love and care into that mode as you would for the regular game. Would be appreciated.

Please keep in mind that the original Castlevania/Akumajo Dracula wasn't simply a left-to-right scroller. Although it was a single path, that path wound all over the castle going right, left, up, and down at various points (and of course the final approach to Dracula's throne is ALWAYS right to left!). I prefer the modern metroidvania mode, but if there's to be a classic version, let it be the long and winding road. :D

Classic mode sounds badass, can't wait to play it! Really exciting to have both options... remixing the levels is a good idea that I think would have worked well for the Richter SotN playthrough. This is going to be so sweet!

      CLASSIC MODE? Outstanding.
If we manage to get the Retro Level strech goal, will this Classic Mode could have an option to play it in retro style? (8/ bits graphics?)
      That's be really awesome!!!

      @Nicholas Gray
I'm hoping that the reason the stretchgoals are the what they are is because all the important content was included in the initial goal, and this is just padding.

    22. Missing avatar

      Arsalan Malick on

I'd rather they have smaller stretch goals that still incentivize further donations then big ones that they can't deliver on. Classic mode sounds awesome, especially if they can do it right a la Super Castlevania 4.

So many games on KS so far have overreached and I don't want this one to be one of them.

Classic Mode is a great idea! It brings together my favorite game of all time (SCIV) and my second favorite game (SotN) into one game. I'm very happy with this.

    24. Tony Brook on

More modes = Additional content. Classic mode is basically a retooling of the game into a pre-Iga style game, which is kind of a big undertaking if done right.

    25. Nicholas Gray on

I also think the stretch goals are weak given the amount of money involved. I would prefer them to focus on producing additional content rather than more modes. I think we have enough modes at this point.

      This made me laugh:

I wouldn't be opposed to the transmutation leading to soft cover art book for $60 backers, since the higher tier art book has been upgraded to hardcover :)
