Consortium Release Date
Hello everyone!
I realize we've been telling you all that the game is just a few days away from being done. We WERE planning on launching just before Christmas, but we've been informed by Valve that launching new games during the big Steam holiday sale is a bad idea...
In addition, the simple reality is that all the ongoing testing being done continues to reveal bugs that need fixing, so we are deciding to take the next two 2 1/2 weeks to debug and polish our experience. This means that...
CONSORTIUM will be available for downloading by all "Gimme the Game" Kickstarter backers and higher via Humble Bundle, in addition to being available on STEAM on:
MONDAY, JANUARY 6th, 2014
We would also like to offer a sincere THANK-YOU for all the beta backers that have banged on the latest build and sent us .CAI files and written bug reports. We can't begin to explain how invaluable this has been for us.
We will be providing a patch to the "final" Beta just before Xmas (watch for it this coming Monday) that will include well over 100 bug fixes and polish items...
That's all for right now...back to the bug fixing and polishing grindstone for us!

Wednesday, come and going. Haven't seen any update to my Humble Bundle Account. Also, what about the soundrack? Soule was one of the big reasons I backed this game. Thank!

Can't wait to play this game!

It was a stupid question. I just read the comment below
Mathias Scarborough on January 8, 2014
Maybe a stupid question but how do we get our steam keys?
Devon Rampe on January 7, 2014
Yay can't wait to get my Steam key!
Andreas Varotsis on January 7, 2014
guys, quick request - when the final version is built, can you push it to Humble asap instead of waiting for the "official release"? It's not like we're waiting for a retail date...anyays, would be nice. Assuming you make the release date tomorrow :P

haha, we deserved that. I supposed you'll just have to wait until Wednesday to know for sure....
Mathias Scarborough on January 6, 2014
Gotcha. January 10th.

No doubts are necessary....we will send you a specific request to all backers who want a Steam key...watch for it soon after launch!
Also: We've been pulling 15 hours days here, and we're happy to say that the game itself is pretty much ready for prime-time, two annoying issues remain: Getting the game to run on 32 bit machines, AND sub-titles (which are sort of working, but mostly broken and unfinished). We need to fix those last two issues before launching.
The official date is now January 8th 2014. We promise promise promise that this is the last delay. The game will be in your hands this Wednesday......

I have the same doubt as Icetiger in the last comment. Tomorrow is the great day and we need the Steam key! :)
Icetiger on December 21, 2013
Just curious, when are you going to send out the steam keys?
JS on December 21, 2013
Yes I think releasing now in the midst of a Steam sale frenzy, would be a bad idea indeed. I am looking forward to the release!

Take your time with the release. I know that there's a long backlock of promised and then missed milestones. But if this isn't financially a problem it shouldn't be one for your backers either. Everyone wants a polished a bug-free gold version. Some just don't know it yet!
So, take your time and release the game as polished as you can. When your game get's released on steam you get more free exposure to potential buyers then you could buy for a mid-range-marketing budget. For a while you'll be on the front page in the "new releases" list and the initial handing out of steam-keys to your backers will help you climb in the "topsellers" list (a convenient glitch) and you really want to do everything to stay there as long as possible. Potential buyers will go to your forums and try to make a decision wether they'll might want to buy the game (the infamous "is it worth it?" threads) and if you can avoid your first dozen of forum threads to be bug reports from players using exotic hardware or operation systems or those unlucky enough to run into a hard-to-reproduce blocker bug that will help a lot. This is really going to be the most important day in your development process and worth to be treated as such.
Sorry, if I'm sounding like a smartass here but "we promised, so we have to" really doesn't do anyone a favor. Not your team members, not your customers.

Can't wait! I probably have to agree with Steam because you want a nice announcement when your game is released. During the Holiday Sale everyone is just looking for discounts so the launch would get totally drowned out :(
Launch at a fair retail price and discount later! :D

Bug fixes mostly, yes. General polish as well. The version you will get on January 6th will be very solid, but course we will continue to improve and update the experience after launch.

Well, I am just glad we have a solid date for a final product. The madness of bug fixes coming to a close. The only question I have is, what will be the final difference between the final beta and the final game? The bug fixes?
