Is this what I think it is?
This is just like the LEGO set you get at the store, with brand-new genuine LEGO pieces, professionally designed step-by-step instructions and packaged in a high quality box. Except it's not made by LEGO. The pieces are LEGO, but the model is designed by us - ICHIBAN Toys - and the kits are packaged by us, too.
At ICHIBAN Toys, we design our own LEGO kits of pretty much anything we want to. And we're not talking about kids toys. In fact, our largest customer base are between the ages of 35-45 years old!
The Dropship is our latest model - a 280-300 piece* spaceship inspired by a certain movie ;). It features two large arms carrying missile bays that pivot from a neatly folded status to an extended status. Two additional missile bays fold out from the fuselage. Fold out the three landing gear attachments for a solid, sturdy landing.
This is currently our most-requested kit and we hope it hits the spot!
*Final piece count will be determined once the instructions are made. Oftentimes, we will make slight adjustments to the model if we see areas that can be further improved in order to increase strength or durability.
What experience do you have?
This isn't our first kit. In fact, we've designed over 90 custom LEGO element kits in the last five years! We've sold over 10,000 kits! Most of them were just like this Dropship kit. The others were designed for large corporations as promotional items. We know everything there is to know about making custom LEGO element kits.
Our products have been featured on blogs such as Uncrate, Technabob, The Awesomer, IGN and more! Our kits were also one of WIRED's favorite products of 2011!
So why do you need funding?
To be honest, we don't. We would normally invest our own money into developing the first run of kits just like we've always done.
The Dropship is an experiment in pre-funding a new kit. We want to use Kickstarter as a platform to generate interest in a new kit to essentially guarantee success in each of our new kits. This allows us to offer our customers more ambitious kits with less risk - overall keeping our costs down and thus being able to lower the prices of our kits. It's really a win-win for everyone.
Why do you need $3,200?
Our kits only become profitable once we have sold a certain number of kits. We invest a huge amount of time designing the model, redesigning the model, redesigning it again and again and again. And then we photograph each step for the instructions. Then of course, we buy all of the LEGO pieces (expensive! - we cannot buy them wholesale from LEGO) and package them up. The initial run of 60-80 kits usually pays off all of this work and then we can start making a profit in the additional batches. $3,200 will cover the costs for this initial run, as well as associated costs such as payment processing fees and shipping. If successful, then we can sell additional batches on our website and other outlets and start seeing a profit.
Who manufactures them?
We do. We import all of the pieces needed. Then we package all of the pieces into polybags which are then sealed on a heat sealer. The instructions are designed by us and printed on our beast of a printer. The artwork is also done in house and then printed on the highest quality label paper. We then package everything into high quality top-opening boxes and put the label on. Then we process all of the incoming orders ourselves and ship them out. Over the last five years, we've perfected the whole process for a stunning result at a reasonable price.
Tell me about the rewards.
Of course, the Dropship kit is the reason for this project so naturally it is part of all of our rewards.
All of our rewards include free shipping to anywhere in the US. We can also ship internationally for an additional fee.
$19 - A printed set of instructions for the Dropship custom LEGO element kit. This is exactly the same as the instructions we print off for each kit - professionally designed and printed on very high quality paper. Neatly trimmed and stapled into a booklet. A great option if you think you already have most of the pieces!
$49 - Your own copy of the Dropship custom LEGO element kit! Includes all brand new genuine LEGO pieces, professionally designed step-by-step instructions and a high quality box with artwork. We expect to sell this kit on our own website for either $49 or $59 after we have shipped your reward.
$75 - Your own copy of the Dropship custom LEGO element kit AND our APC kit! Both kits include all brand new genuine LEGO pieces, professionally designed step-by-step instructions and high quality boxes with artwork.
The APC kit retails for $29 and makes a perfect partner to the Dropship! All four wheels are mounted on independent shock absorbers. The cannon can not only spin all the way around, but it folds back and rests behind the APC when not in use!
$95 - Your own copy of the Dropship custom LEGO element kit AND our Power Loader kit! Both kits include all brand new genuine LEGO pieces, professionally designed step-by-step instructions and high quality boxes with artwork.
The Power Loader retails for $49 on our website and includes a minifigure! Highly maneuverable arms and claws make light work of anything. The arms can be manipulated into all sorts of positions and the "claws" rotate! Adjustable legs hinge at two points for realistic walking!
$119 - Our trilogy. All three kits.
Thank you for taking your time to view our next kit. If funding is successful, it opens up a whole new opportunity for ICHIBAN Toys to offer more ambitious kits. We look forward to sending you your very own custom LEGO element Dropship kit.

Risks and challenges
Although we have five years and 10,000 kits of experience, we're aware that a setback could occur. Sometimes, we may not be able to get all of the needed pieces in as quickly as we like and this can push back the completion date. We will let you know if there is a delay in shipping your order. But we expect to fulfill every reward by the end of this year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
