We believe that all beverages and spirits should be enjoyed as their makers intended – crisp, cool and flavorful. We also believe that all good drinks are enhanced by what we are doing and who we are with. If it’s sharing laughs over dinner with family and friends, or quietly appreciating a premium spirit on a summer’s eve, there are many moments that we have to enjoy our drink of choice. In keeping with those occasions, we’ve developed a creative way to enrich those moments with iceDrops.
iceDrops were created by four friends who wanted to enjoy their drinks without watering down the taste. We came up with the concept last summer during a guy’s weekend at the cottage when one of us was tired of drinking warm rye out on the deck. When we headed inside, we began to talk about ways we could keep our drinks cool without dilution and suddenly the idea for iceDrops was born. When we discussed the concept – we also discussed funding, and that’s where Kickstarter came in.
We had known about Kickstarter for a while and began to look closer at how we could create a project that would be appealing to our audience. Along the way, we found a number of great projects to support – and received helpful advice from a number of past project creators. We are truly grateful for all the support the community has given us and we look forward to supporting other projects long after this one closes.
iceDrops are porcelain based cooling shapes. They advance the beverage accessory market by offering new options for cooling drinks that are both functional and pleasing to the eye.
A proprietary recipe of porcelain was chosen because of its ease of use in manufacturing complex shapes and for its thermodynamic properties. Inert, durable and non-porous, porcelain perfectly addresses the need for a safe and enjoyable way to keep your drink cool.
Hip. Artisan. Functional. iceDrops expand an entire market with the introduction of complex shapes and designs to the vast spectrum of beverage consumption - and we think it’s about time.
It's easy. You simply put iceDrops in your freezer for a couple of hours – then put them in your glass and pour over your favourite drink. The properties of porcelain absorb the cold energy from your freezer and slowly cool your drink. When you’re done – go ahead and toss them in the dishwasher, or just simply rinse them and towel dry.
Due to the variety of shapes and sizes, iceDrops allow you to tailor your cool exactly the way you like it.
A few years ago a product called whiskey stones – basic squares made of soapstone - came onto the market. By freezing the soapstone and putting them into your whiskey, you hopefully would have enough energy transfer to keep your drink cool without adding ice. Unlike iceDrops, the problem with soapstone is that it is soft – and therefore the material is easily scratched and can leave residue.
Since then, dozens of variations of simple blocks have come to market – Norwegian granite, stainless steel cubes, cheaper soapstone, bigger soapstone.
Today, iceDrops have advanced the market of drink accompaniments in an innovative fashion. Unrestrained by rudimentary and inflexible material, iceDrops offer unlimited potential in terms of shape, style and eventually color while being strong, non-porous and non-imparting.
When discussing our concept with others, the most common question that came up was "Does iceDrops cool as well as other products on the market?"
Our answer is a resounding "Yes!"
iceDrops kept the whiskey consistently cooler, even extended out over 45 minutes (but who's drink stays around that long anyway?).
We could get more technical, but the important thing to note is that iceDrops has the right cool for you.
The money we raise will go towards purchasing new equipment and materials to produce our initial production run. We are currently manufacturing iceDrops with limited space and equipment. Using an older pug mill and hand-cut dies, we extract the shapes and use cutting jigs to get the final shapes. The springs and the nuts & bolts require additional machining after extrusion. While this process is perfect for the prototypes, it will not allow us to scale consistently.
We are looking to purchase an industrial grade pug mill, laser cut dies. The larger pug mill will give us better consistency with the extrusion and the laser cut dies will give us precise shaping to the iceDrops. The money raised will also go to the proprietary porcelain clay needed for the run.
We have created and tested hundreds of different prototypes over the last ten months and have settled on these designs given the equipment we have. Achieving our Kickstarter ask will allow us to expand the operation and investigate new and more complex designs.
Please check out the detailed rewards to the right. Here are some pictures of prototypes for all the different shapes and sizes.
Aside from fire, flood and a plague of locusts, we have very few impediments to a successful project since we plan on manufacturing iceDrops ourselves.
Delays in obtaining material or our new equipment could delay setting up our lab; however, we have made allowances for this in our shipping schedule and anticipate being on time with our delivery.
We have already found a source for the additional equipment and have confirmed availability of the raw materials.
The new equipment will allow us to meet, or even surpass our delivery dates and will allow us to scale well beyond our target goal.

In order to calculate international shipping on multiple orders, simple take the highest shipping rate and add $5 for each additional order.
For example, if you wanted 1 "Cocktail Party Pack", 1 Nuts & Bolts set and 1 set of Springs, the international shipping would be: $15 + $5 + $5 = $25.
Yes we can say they are completely safe for any food or drink related use - also, you can throw them in the dishwasher any time. iceDrops are similar in it's "safe" material composition to soapstone or granite - but better because they doesn't impart any residue or taste. The porcelain is fired at about 1200 C - and is not glazed, or treated in any fashion - so they're just as safe as a regular ceramic mug.
