After testing a range of materials, silicon and TPU were the best food-grade candidates. I chose TPU as it can have a higher rigidity than silicon, and the right surface finish, both of which are required for the Icediver to work properly.
The Icediver is therefore made from TPU with precise hardness specifications and a high friction surface finish. Although the Icediver already works well as is, the design may change slightly as I continually experiment to improve overall reliability.
I came up with the original Icediver concept in 2013, but couldn't find the right material. Then, a few months ago, I changed my smartphone and there was a TPU cover offered inside the box. As soon as I felt the texture, I knew I'd found the solution! TPU was the material I needed for the Icediver!
I'm a 32 year-old French geek. I invent and design things in my spare time as a hobby, and crowdfund some of them. The Icediver is my second crowdfunding project, as I successfully crowdfunded a card game (now sold-out) on another platform. I spend the bulk of my time as the CEO and co-founder of a civic tech startup.

As I already have the 3D files, the 3D printed prototypes, the production costs quoted by the manufacturer, and the shipping costs, all steps of the project should unfold smoothly. However, in case of any issue, be sure that I will let you know immediately. I selected my manufacturer carefully and based on a great deal of research. They meet all legal requirements and have the necessary certifications to produce food-grade products, and have years of experience in TPU parts molding.
