Why this funding campaign?

After several years in the field of 3D printing, I realized that we lacked tools adapted to our needs. One of these tools is currently not found. It is a device to weld two plastic filaments together.

3D printers use as raw material plastic filament of about 360 m long, coiled. With a coil, we can make some items. But when there remain only a few meters, it is often impossible to use it. This filament is then unusable or discarded. Considering the price, it's infuriating.

It also happens that the filament breaks during printing or on the coil.

The current size of the filament coils do not allow to print large parts. The best solution would be to link together the filaments of each coil. Thus, the size of the printable parts would be no more limited.

From these findings, I have sought to develop a plastic filament welder to:

  • Reduce filament waste.
  • Combine different colors and / or filament materials.
  • Making life easier for 3D printers.
  • Saving money.
  • Print large parts.

It can weld :

  • Plastic filaments for 3D printing.
  • Braid filaments.
  • Plastic strips.

Description:

It is called EasyWelder.

It is accompanied by a "Holding Plate" to block filaments position during the welding phase.

Features / Operation:

The gripper is equipped with two heating tips. The heating temperature is controlled electronically and adjustable from 100 ° C to 200 ° C. An on / off switch is available on the handle of the tool. A blinking LED indicates that the set temperature is reached.

It can weld plastic filament of 1.75mm, 2.85mm or 3mm in diameter. The complete intervention (welding + finishing + control) takes minutes.

Consumption: 110/230 VAC - 50 / 60Hz - 25W

The clamp is equipped with European,UK ,AUS, US standards plug.

The Holding plate block the filament position before, during and after welding, to its total cooling. The filament is in the guide grooves to ensure perfect concentricity. The Holding Plate also verifies that the diameter of the weld zone is consistent with the need.

The EasyWelder is CE certification.

Maintenance of EasyWelder:

Regular cleaning of the heating part with a soft cloth is sufficient.

Quality and types of welds:

The EasyWelder can weld the following plastic filaments:

  • PLA
  • PVA
  • ABS
  • HIPS
  • Ninjaflex and other similar filaments
  • PEG
  • PE
  • Braided polyethylene

And:

  • Plastic strip
  • Plastic braid

For other materials, tests are to be performed.

Each weld requests light work of deburring and diameter control with the Holding Plate.

O-ring or tori are achievable with the flexible filament like NinjaFlex or rigid filament.

Resistance tests to bending and tensile strength were used to verify the quality of the welds. These tests indicate that the weld will resist in a 3D printing.

However, welded filament will never be as strong as a seamless filament.

The project completion after successful funding:

We are full time on the project. From the moment the funding is available:

  • We are launching procurement.
  • We will communicate every week on our blog.
  • Immediately upon receipt, we test and compose parts kits.

There is no assembly work, the main tool comes assembled.

We will test the equipment before shipment.

The schedule:

  • July: Campaign launch.
  • August: Start of production of the parts.
  • September: Reception - parts quality control - Preparation of batches and shipment.
  • October: Monitoring of potential returns and questions. Sale of products via our website.

The Team:

We have created an LLC, "I3D innovation" www.i3dinno.com of two people (faser an son). The company brings together the complementary and essential skills for this project:
