Firmware Update

Dear Backers, We are pleased to announce that the new firmware update for the HyperDrive is here.  This firmware version is for Windows OS.
We are still working on the Mac OS and iOS version.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
The new firmware addresses the following issue: 1. Some of the iPad Pro cannot be charged at optimum rate or cannot be charged at all when connected to the the original Apple charger via Hyperdrive.

2. Audio/USB devices cannot be hot-swapped without removing and reinserting the HyperDrive. This firmware update addresses a bug that prevents devices from being able to hot swap. The detailed steps and video instructions for the firmware update can be found at: https://hypershop.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025480492-Firmware-Update
Once again, we thank you for your support and patience.

Any luck with the update? Not charging has defeated the purpose doesn't read all my files on my SD card either :(

Bad choice. I bought for my iPad Pro. I don't have PC or MAC. I want a support for IOS only.

Not helpful. I neither have nor want to have a Windows PC. This is an iOS device - updates should support the native OS.

As many others that bought this device:
      1) I don’t have a windows machine,
      2) My Mac does not have USB C (not that it matters since there is STILL NO UPDATING THE FIRMWARE FROM A MAC),
      3) I do have a fully working iPad Pro (11 inch) from which I should be able to update the firmware.

Luckily for me, my Hyperdrive does have functionality (not sure whether it is FULL functionality though): it connects through HDMI, it says device is not charging BUT apparently it is charging (slowly), headphones work...

So, please, please, PLEASE COME UP WITH A FIRMWARE UPDATE THAT SOLVES PROBLEMS (2) and (3) ABOVE.

Hey @Hyperdrive, just a heads up, my IPad Pro updated to 12.2 today, and now my Hyperdrive no longer works! I am also assuming it will be fixed in the MacOS firmware update, but help!!

If you develop a product to work with an iPad, why do I need to use other device to update the firmware? My Mac does not have an USB-C port! You have two choices? Make it updatable on iPad, as the product was created specifically for this device, or send a USB-C to USB-A to your customers! Nobody were told that a New Mac or New PC would be mandatory to update the device.
Clearly you forgot to consider this and now lots of people just can’t update the hyper drive!
      What do you say?
My hyperdrive is useless since it arrived, and now it will stay that way, as I just can’t plug it into my computer.

I purchased a USB-C to USB-A adapter in order to update the device from my Windows PC and the update failed. Come on guys get this fixed. There is no way this device should have even left the factory with this bug in the firmware. Tells me that there wasn’t enough testing.

Hi, I have tested on other PC windows but without success to update the firmware. Hyperdrive works perfectly in HDMI, I have stremead Netflix video on big monitor and the headphones works too.
I have noted some inusual static electricity effects touching ipad during the streaming videos.

      HI,
I have received my Hyperdrive a couple of weeks ago (I live in Italy) but I have not connected to my iPad pro 12.9 until now with the release of new firmware. I have attached it without bracket as istructions and following the video on Windows 10 native PC with this adapter https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B073FSHHFW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00…
The blu led is on in Hyperdrive but the software say me that "devive is not found"! I have tested all (the cable usbc-usb works) on USB 2 and 3 on other desktop Windows PC but without any success...

Well, I plugged in the adapter with dongle at the Apple store after setting up the new 2018 11” iPad Pro. A blue dongle icon appeared briefly. That word briefly describes this device. It appeared to work briefly. There is no charge coming to the iPad when plugged into an Apple charger. So until an upgrade capable of being installed from my iPad, this remains an expensive paper weight.

I have no other USB-C devices at this time.

I don’t have a PC, but do have VMware running with windows on my Mac. Update failed... Waiting for IOS updater :-(

    18. Robert Ireland on

Had to change to extension to .exe but it worked great for me. It’s not unusual to have hardware/firmware updaters programmed in windows first. Sure it’s a bit rough around the edges but it shows the devs are trying to get it out quickly. Well done and thanks

Having to rename the file extension after download, and then bypass Windows Defender seems sketchy at best. I'll wait for the iOS updater.

    22. Mikey J on

One last comment from me about HyperDrive: World's 1st USB-C Hub for iPad Pro 2018, I think more thought should go into the design of the product taking into consideration the fact that probably 9 out of 10 people using the iPad Pro 2018 have it in a protective case. You did provide a dongle option with the device, but this simply puts me back at square one, using a dongle. The very thing that excited me about this device was the prospect of doing away with using a dongle. I have found a protective case that allows access of the device fully flush against the iPad Pro 2018, but the case is not the case I want to use as it does not offer the fullest protection I want for my rather expensive iPad Pro 2018. Perhaps you can try innovating an attachment for the HyperDrive that would facilitate it plugging directly into the iPad Pro 2018 while in a case and still sitting flush against the iPad Pro? Perhaps it's not possible, perhaps a bridge too far, but one can dream. Cheers.

    23. Mikey J on

Obviously the HyperDrive: World's 1st USB-C Hub for iPad Pro 2018 was not quite "ready for prime time" when it was released. Makes me a little leery of backing other Kickstarter projects. I am still waiting to use mine the way it was advertised.

    24. Mikey J on

      Very good point, Chris Adamson.

    25. Chris Adamson on

Disappointed you did Windows before Mac. Are you not familiar with the kind of people who use iPad Pros in the first place?

    26. Mikey J on

Yes, when will you post the iOS version?

Tried using parallels on an iMac with usbc ports but could not work. Used boot camp with a trial windows 10 then worked. Needed to screw out the rubber then detected. Once upgraded successfully, I removed the boot camp partition. Hdmi output is more consistent now.

Why would you issue an update that requires windows? This is a IPad device, and many, like me, don’t have windows machines. Strange thing to do!!!!!

I received the Hyperdrive for my iPad Pro 2018, however the USB-A and the headphone jacks do not work. The blue light comes on and I can read SD cards, but flash drives do not work nor the headphone jack. I feel that this has been a waste of money, The cable extender doesn’t work either because the jack is so loose it falls out. I would have gotten a card reader and headphone adapter a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Not well thought at all. My windows computer has no usb-c and you don’t have a Mac version. Why bother putting it out?

    32. David A. Shaulson on

Can it be flashed from the iPad? I have no USB C on my Surface Pro 4 or my MacBook Air.

Removing the bracket requires a very very small phillips screwdriver, which I would guess is not a common tool. I don't have one small enough, so I can't perform the update.

Just updated the firmware on the Hyperdrive. For anyone who wants to know, I used boot camp on my Mac to install the firmware on Windows10. For the first time since I received the Hyperdrive, everything is now working. The charging is somewhat slow while I am using my IPad Pro but at least it’s charging instead of losing power. I’m able to use the audio jack as well as the usb and sad ports as well.

Definitely an improved device. Hopefully an even better update will follow.

Uhm... Great that issues are addressed, but honestly it seems strange to me that you created a device for iPad Pro, and then release a firmware update for.... Windows? I really have a hard time seeing the logic here, especially when I read through the comments and not even PC users all have USB C ports.

How are we going to get the update for iOS I just had the issue I was using the HDMI port and charging the iPad Pro and the iPad Pro shutdown while I was watching the NCAA Basketball Tournament so obviously it wasn’t charging even though it was plugged in.

Second the thanks being left - these are significant issues which when addressed will be much appreciated. As mentioned above - starting with Mac and iOS for an iPadPro might have been more in line with your users but assuming that it comes in good time it will be very helpful in fulfiling the promoted promises of the product.

      Hi,
first of all thanks for the update!

      *but*

can’t you provide the update kind of “online”
through a webpage with a little “Java/Javascript magic” so it can be accessed via the iPad Pro itself???
And additionally is it possible/reasonable (especially for me - Linux guy) to support the LVFS (Linux Vendor Firmware Service) in the long term???
For more info on LVFS please check
