A Drifter's work is never done.
Wreck Age is a game/world, based on the imagination of two friends and a multitude of compatriots. A world in which you are able to tell your own stories and have your own adventures.
It's A tabletop game involving miniatures that you can collect, paint, and play with, as well as a role playing game; where your imagination takes you to new lands, and on adventures. Basically, make believe and craft night for adults all rolled up into one. As a wise man once said;
“We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
~ George Bernard Shaw
NEW UPDATE (12/16/2011)!
We have just posted quick start rules and introductory adventure to our web site, and are showing some new greens as well. We were hoping to have this all ready well before the 2 week mark for our Kickstarter funding, but we wanted to show something that we could ultimately be proud of and it took us a lot longer to get all of it together than we originally anticipated. Enjoy!
Also, we have some some pictures of a few new greens that our extremely talented sculptors have finished (or nearly finished). They are working diligently to finish up our first wave by mid-January, and from there, they will be cast, and sent out to all our lovely backers (that's YOU folks).
NEW GOAL OF $10,000!!!
---------------------------------Thank you so much for helping us reach our original goal! We sincerely appreciate it, and look forward to sending your all of your goodies.
We're announcing another potential limited Kickstarter mini set. If we reach our new goal of $10,000 by December 29th, anyone who is already receiving minis at the $25 or over pledge level will also receive these two minis on top of anything else that they're already getting. This includes anyone making a pledge from here on in as well.
Most Stitchmen have at some point taken the Hippocratic oath, which they have bent to the point of breaking after hundreds of years of solitude tempered with healthy doses of paranoia. However, there is one area where they hold fast to their original core values; at NO time shall non-human and human DNA be mixed. This was established early on in the gene therapy industry, as a way of preventing diseases from crossing over from the animal kingdom to the human population, as a way of stemming the very real potential of a pandemic being inadvertently created.
Doctor Moreau, as he calls himself (no one left alive remembers his original name) has completely foregone this basic tenant of the Stitchmen oath, and purposefully blends both animal DNA with his own, as well as human DNA with other animals. His only companion is his dog Montgomery, as most hunters and orderlies avoid him, due to his outlandish practices. That's saying something coming from a group that regularly kidnaps people to harvest their organs.
Sculpting will be done by Mohamed "Mohand" Aitmehdi, who has done work for for Studio McVey, Privateer Press, and Maelstrom Games.
What does this mean exactly? More stuff for you! So please spread the word.
We're doing this to show our appreciation for helping us reach our goal so quickly. If we manage to reach our new goal, the mini will be sculpted and cast sometime in Feb.
This will be a Kickstarter exclusive, with a possible re-sculpt down the road for regular sale.
To begin: we are casting a line of 28mm (to the eye) metal miniatures. This kickstarter project is a means of speeding up production. It will allow us to get our line out to the public at a much faster rate than we'd possibly be able to otherwise. In addition, we are hard at work on our approximately 300 page full color core rule book. This rule book will include all the basic rules that we'll have up for free on our website in the next month or so. In addition, it will include a plethora of background and information about how day-to-day life in our world works, and how to create your starting community. This will give you a strong setting to utilize, and a step-off point to create your own personalized world within.
Imagine for a moment: A Sci-fi world based on the premise that the rich and powerful have abandoned earth. 150 years ago, a mass Exodus of Seed Ships left a polluted and war-ravenged Earth to seek out distant habitable planets. The billions left behind were forced to fend for themselves, fighting internal as well as external forces. Now, over a century later, there are only a relative handful left. The population levels of Earth mimic that of the Stone Age, and in some cases, so do the inhabitants. Technology is scarce, and true knowledge is even more-so. History is passed down by word-of mouth, or gleaned from found data sources.
A sci-fi world akin to Mad Max meets Blade Runner meets The Road. Inspired in part by; Tank Girl, Omega Man, 12 Monkeys, Book of Eli, Escape from New York, Dune by Frank Herbert, The Suns of Scorpio by Alan Burt Akers, A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, the Stand by Steven King, The Native Tongue trilogy by Suzette Haden Elgin, The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, The World Without Us by Alan Weisman, and the Book of Dave by Will Self.
In times past, we've had the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age,
Welcome to the:
Wreck Age is an open-ended Role Playing Game and Tabletop skirmish game set on 25th century Earth.
We've been working in (semi) secret for the past year and a half, creating hundreds of pages of background, artwork, a dozen different factions, and locations throughout North America and the world.
We've also spent countless hours creating a simple yet detailed gaming system, based off of years of experience playing tabletop war-games in both a casual and tournament setting. This system will integrate seamlessly with the RPG, so there will be no learning curve to switch between the two. In effect they are the same game, with slightly different objectives; one, more focused on storytelling, the other more focused on scenarios, community building, tactics, and strategy.
To show our appreciation, we've lined up some limited rewards for those who take the leap of faith and pledge their support to our project;
•First up, we have a series of short stories, based on the world that we've created. These stories range from 2,000 to 20,000 words each. These will eventually be released on Kindle, on E-book, and as PDFs on our web site. We will also be printing a short run anthology in printed format sometime later next year.
•Next, we have a scale model of a Drifter assault boar. Packed with enough explosives to level a small house, this unfortunate boar serves as a shock troop for the nomadic group known as the Hy Planes Drifters.
•Thirdly, we have a limited edition Drifter chieftain, wearing a suit of armor looted from a Hub City security forces member. Drifter chieftains who are wise enough to take strategic positioning behind a large shield can often expect to make it to the ripe old age of 30 out in the desolate plains. This model will be re-released with a different weapon as a door prize for the 10 year anniversary of the gaming tournament; Adepticon
•Lastly (before we discuss various packages), we have our initial launch wave of 12 models. This may end up being closer to 10, if our sculptors are over-worked (we already know that they're underpaid). With that in mind, we're committing to giving folks that pledge $100 a full dozen. Perhaps even a baker's dozen if things go as planned. That said, you may have to wait for the remaining 2 or 3 models for an extra month or so. Such is the nature of the creative process.
•We're also offering a couple of packages:
-A group of the 2 minis that we will have out by December (the limited Drifter, and his attack boar) as well as all our short stories up to our launch.
-A package including all 12 minis that we'll be launching next spring, the limited Edition Kickstarter Drifter, the core rulebook, which you'll receive well before it's released to the general public next summer, PDF, Kindle, or E-book versions of all short stories that we produce, a 11x17 poster with yet un-seen artwork, and some other goodies.
-We're also offering a lifetime digital package for anything that Hyacinth Games ever releases. PDFs, downloads, e-books, strategy games, video games, and more... Maybe even a reality tv show... You just never know what we're going to do next!
-And finally, those who are dedicated, and/or reckless enough to support us with a $1000 pledge, we will give you every physical and digital product that we ever produce... In a few years time years, we're anticipating that this could add up to $10,000 or more worth of models, games, and books.
We're not looking to do a one-off book and not support it. We're looking to build a core system of rules, written around and tailored to our specific setting, and build upon that with supplements, miniatures, and source-books.
We will be utilizing a Creative Commons license, which will allow people to freely distribute of our materials, as long credit is given, it's for non-commercial ventures, and no money is made. We view this project as Open Source or Shareware Gaming.
We have also recently launched our web forums, at: http://wreck-age.proboards.com/
Please register, and log-in to keep up with the latest news and information on our game, sometimes even before we drop the news on our main site: www.wreck-age.net
We also post on twitter: @WreckAgeRPG
Thank you! We're look forward to many years of fun and adventures to share with you.
