We've taken the feedback and challenges from our first edition and improved upon it, simplifying the rules while still allowing you to run any kind of situation you want, with any kind of Zombies you want, with a degree of Realism to create YOURSELF as a character using our sophisticated SPEW-AI.
PLAY YOURSELF AS A CHARACTER:
Short for the Strength, Perception, Empathy, and Willpower Assessment Inventory, SPEW-AI is an online test that was designed under close advisement of a PhD of Social Psychology strictly for the use in this game.
The SPEW-AI also includes professional insight from Psychologists, Social Scientists, Police, Fire, Military, and Search/Rescue: it has been regarded as highly accurate, and been constructed to minimize bias, and to prevent ego and opinion from dictating results (unlike some other systems which boast a "create yourself as a character" function).
Finally the test also reference it’s own data to help decide what is the universal bell curve. It has been taken by over 200,000 individuals and is completely free.
Player Resources for Easy Character Creation Including:
- 5 Template Character Cards with basic Stats
- Trait Cards (Abilities, Paradigms, and Disadvantages)
- Basic Equipment Cards for easy referencing
- 24 rip sheets for basic skills and Advancement using “Gestalt”

Despite what it may appear, Outbreak: Undead - 2nd Ed. Starter Kit is NOT A CARD GAME. It is a Role Playing Game and does not require cards to play.
There are also no scripted scenarios, only highly adaptable mission frameworks which allow for tremendous replay value with multiple settings, comparable to any fully-developed role-playing game!

EQUIPMENT AND LOADOUTS
Players attempt Survival in a world of the GM’s own design. We don’t limit the type of zombies, Slow/Fast/Viral/Sentient Opponents, you can run them all!
We do our best to ensure Outbreak: Undead is comprehensive, simple, and most importantly. Fun. In a Survival Horror kind of way of course.
Outbreak: Undead has a balanced way of challenging players and engaging GM’s in a otherwise random and chaotic environment of the zombie apocalypse.
SP (Survival Points) and Risk
Players undertake Missions to earn SP (Survival Points), and accumulate Risk in the process based on the actions they take. The GM uses Risk to play Hazards to challenge players further or upgrade opponents into more dangerous versions.
Accomplishing missions is a key way to ensure your chance at survival. Vital tasks like "Supply Raid, Scouting, Search and Rescue, Cleanse, Stronghold Upgrade, etc" are great guidelines to apply to any location of your choosing while your players struggle with not only fulfilling basic survival needs, but with dangerous encounters with the Undead and vigilantes.
Locations and Strongholds add greater depth to gameplay, as players may need to maintain a stronghold (or multiple) while dealing with the problems that constantly present themselves.
REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE - GESTALT
While Outbreak: Undead doesn't have experience points, or levels (who would 'level up' in the Zpoc, and what character class could you possibly be?), we have created a system that allows your character to evolve organically, or to increase characters based on YOURSELF to be even more accurate in-game representation.
This is called Gestalt Level. Does your bartending school give you above average knowledge of various levels of proofing to make a Moltov? Did your 3 years of college baseball give you a good arm with a bat? Either way, drawing upon these experiences, you can Supplement your skills accordingly (with approval from your GM of course).
In theory if your Gestalt Level is '0', you should be playing yourself, including most if not all of your applicable experience, or any experience you would gain if you are put through the same situation as your character.
In addition it can also help reduce the gap between 'player knowledge' (yourself), and 'Character knowledge' (yourself 10 years into the Zpoc) if your are already starting 'in the thick of it'.
The great thing about Outbreak: Undead is a very reactive game and can be played with LITTLE TO NO PREP. All you need is this box, and the first hand knowledge your players retain.
Organized play or "PANDEMIC PLAY" -
Pandemic Play... is the ultimate Zombie Apocalypse Simulation. Because every player who participates is responsible for the defense (or domination) of the region in which they live! Your actions have consequences, your supplies are limited and you can provide value to others.
Each region will have a Hunters Books Volunteer (Designated "Action Ranger") and will distribute sets of branded cards that will represent character advancement, abilities and gear that will be recognized in all organized play.
Each month, region statuses and special events will be made available to those who sign up. Players will be able to participate in any organized play and the results of their efforts will be kept track of in their region.
Over time, the Outbreak Level will advance and the strain on the players efforts will increase and gear that is the product of human industry will become harder to come across. At the end of the year, a report will be published and notable characters and events will be celebrated by a special release and profiled as the stories of survival.

Risks and challenges
We are a long standing book publisher with over 5 years experience and nearly 12 products under our belt. This is not our first book, and we understand the difficulties of printing overseas.
Right now there is no risk in this project getting done as long as the Kickstarter finishes. Our printer is aware of our deadlines and we've scheduled this project to ensure that payment will be delievered on time and that the products will be shipped by September of 2015. How far we take our goals is soley up to how much we raise.
