About this project
Hello! Hunter Pass Leather Goods is Carly and Aubree Ng, two sisters from Portland, Oregon. The Hunter Pass moniker is a nod to the street we grew up on in a small town in the California desert. Our town was filled with artisans and craftsman, and people that simply just liked to work with their hands. Since then, we've held a strong affection towards handmade products and timeless crafts. Our interest in leather piqued in 2009 when we inherited an set of antique leather tools from our uncle. After a year of mostly making things for ourselves, family, and friends, and after lots of encouragement to branch into a production line, we expanded into a business.
Hunter Pass Leather Goods has begun to build a name for itself making quality products such as wallets, pet goods, tote bags, and belts. We use natural, U.S. sourced, vegetable tanned leather to create our products. All items are hand-sewn and hand-tooled by Carly and Aubree, and we design and test each piece to ensure a quality product that will not only last a lifetime, but age beautifully throughout the years. Additionally, 5% of all our pet goods proceeds are donated to the Humane Society.
While our Etsy sales have been sustaining, both of us still work full-time jobs and work on Hunter Pass designs and products during our free time. With help from you, we will be able to continue to develop and fund this business so we can start looking forward towards our longer-term goals: to turn Hunter Pass into a completely sustainable business and, in the future, into a brick and mortar shop. We would love to keep making beautiful, lasting products for you and we would love to do it full-time. And, by eventually opening up a Hunter Pass brick and mortar shop, we can return the favor by showcasing other aspiring crafters.
We are presently at a point where we huge potential for the growth of Hunter Pass - growth which is slightly out of reach without external assistance. The profits raised from Kickstarter will be used to purchase much needed equipment:
- At the top of our list is an industrial sewing machine. Most sewing machines are not built to sew leather and will buckle under the pressure or create faulty goods. An industrial sewing machine is built to handle heavy duty materials such as leather and will be a vital part of our operation.
- Secondly, we plan to purchase enough hides of leather to construct our products for 6 months. We source our leather from Horween Leather Company, an American tannery that makes the highest quality leather.
- The rest of the money we want to raise will be used for essential tools and a riveter, which allows the rivets to be set correctly and quickly, as opposed to the more timely project of setting all rivets by hand. These tools will drastically reduce production time and ensure quality, long-lasting pieces.
Thank you for your support!

Hunter Pass is currently located in Portland, Ore. We were born in San Diego, have lived together in Santa Cruz, and we finally landed in Portland in 2007.
We currently get our leather from Oregon Leather Company. If our project is fulfilled, we will be ordering from Horween Leather Company, which is an American tannery known for the quality and beauty of their leather.
