1.0 THE INTRODUCTION
After 3/3 successfully funded projects, and a year long break from Kickstarter – we're back with another brand new concept, and to ask for your help in turning it into a reality!
2.0 THE PROJECT
Like all the best ideas , The Hangover Cup began in a pub. When I was at University, lots of my night times were spent in the student bars near the design block. After an evening of cider (and bizarrely; Irn Bru and gin... a combination I do NOT recommend) I'd wake up the morning after feeling vulnerable and fragile. As Bernard says in Black Books 'I felt like I'd been beaten up underwater'. I definitely needed liquid to be inside me, but there was no way I was leaving the bed/couch. It was vital I stayed horizontal, and even more important that I drank water or effervescent vitamins or pints of tea. I never quite perfected the technique of lazing around the house on a Sunday morning without spilling my hangover-cure-of-choice all over the place, so recently we set to work on a solution!
Hangovers are caused by alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic and makes you pee, which makes you dehydrated. Usually you fall asleep in this state and during the night your liver has to process heaps of toxins, while the rest of your body lacks the fluids vital to function comfortably. In the morning you have a headache because your brain has temporarily SHRUNK due to dehydration, and is pulling on the INSIDE OF YOUR SKULL! (I had to research this for the write up and, believe me, it upset me just as much to read). The solution? Hundred Million's Hangover Cup!
Using the technology perfected over centuries by tiny, needy toddlers, we've designed an adult-sized sippy cup for the times you're just too fragile to be vain about these things. The benefits of our Hangover Cup include:
- Leak-proof silicone valve
- Two easy to hold handles
- Huge 1 litre capacity
- Heat proof up to 120 Celsius; perfect for hot or cold drinks
- BPA free, dishwasher safe Polypropylene material
Whether you fill it with coffee, or energy drink, or fruit juice, or ice-cold water, or fresh detoxing smoothie or tequila - you can now arrive home from the bar safe in the knowledge you've everything you need for the morning after chilling in the fridge or waiting on the table. Grab it before you go to sleep, and everything will be okay
As well as this brilliant product, we've created packaging that is perfect to send as a gift to someone who would particularly benefit from the life-changing innovations on offer. We're even offering a deal where we will send it straight to them (as well as one to you of course) – and alongside the Hangover Cup we have a limited run of Kickstarter eye mask rewards, to help you get the sleep you need when Mother Nature is pouring beautiful but blazing sunlight into your blood-shot eyes at dawn.
As we've learned from our last projects it's mega important to get your feedback on these things – the CMYK Playing Cards and Hard Work Notebook were both much improved by input from the KS community, so we'll be on the look out for that – we've also got some stretch goals up our sleeve to unleash, should we be lucky enough to achieve our target with your help! But now, the important part:
3.0 THE REWARDS
4.0 THE DEVELOPMENT
We spent months developing the best proportions for the cup - how much liquid it should hold, and what the ideal leak-proof valve was to make it easy to use and clean. We finally settled on a silicone push-on fitment valve which will hold fluid completely upside down for up to 1.5 kgs of pressure (so 150% of what our cup holds). The final capacity of 1 litre was chosen to make it easy to monitor your fluid intake during those long Netflix marathons, as well as minimising the amount of times you have to visit the kitchen to refill.
Polypropylene was selected as the final material for the cup/lid as it's A) recycleable, B) good for temperatures ranging from 0 to 120 Celsius, C) perfect for everything from iced tea to Earl Grey, and D) great for the dishwasher.
NOTE: Before we go on to the Production Plan I have to take a moment to thank Jonny Williamson and Alex Murphy for helping with the video! Jonny starred as Drunk Guy #1, and Alex edited it together, without them I would still be bumbling around a bar with a video camera!
5.0 PRODUCTION AND FULFILLMENT PLAN
Because we're a proactive bunch, we've developed the 3D model in-house and prepared the packaging already. We've secured a GREAT partner to manufacture the Hangover Cup, one with years of experience making sippy cups for children (and for supermarkets) – and asked them to make our ridiculously over-sized adult version. Royal Mail and UPS (the companies we've used to deliver rewards in the past) will be in charge of shipping out all the orders.
Part of the reason our target is relatively high this time is because we have to create a tool to injection mould the lid/cup from scratch using our own design and proportions, if we reach our target the majority of it will go on creating this tool, as without it we can't produce the plastic components necessary for mass production
The tool will take around 30 days to produce, with another 30 days to produce/ship the product to us. A large percentage of the stock will be delivered directly to America where a fulfillment house will complete the US orders. The rest of the world will be dealt with from our UK studio in East London.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges of the project are similar to the products we've had funded in the past. Potential delays in shipping because of unforeseen circumstances make us feel super guilty, so we will work on keeping them to a minimum, but the good news is we have learned a lot from our last runs. This time we won't run out of printer toner or dispatch boxes and will hopefully be able to see any problems with shipping before they happen - and fix them!
The product itself is pretty simple, and it will be supplied by an established, competent manufacturer – so this is a huge load off our minds. We picked them because of the great relationship we established during the development process, as well as knowing that they can produce our product to a consistenly high standard/finish!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
