Kings of India Playing Cards illustrates the four greatest dynasties of India to share the extravagance and beauty of India’s story. That’s a big ask for a deck of cards, so here’s how we're going to do it:
Every inch of this deck has been custom-illustrated from scratch by our Montreal-based design studio, Humble Raja. We’re the same detail-obsessed duo from Apartment 4 design, so you can rest assured that we've even taken the time to draw chest hair.
Each court card reveals the bold personality of a legendary monarch of India, his queen and future successor. We have consulted books, artifacts, documentaries, architecture and sculptures to exemplify their contribution to India’s story visually through the details and design of each character.
Kings of India will be professionally printed by the United States Playing Card Company [USPCC], the same makers of the Bicycle® and Bee® brand, casino-grade playing cards. This means exceptional quality used by the pros, all made in the USA.
As Humble Raja, we use design as a means to access and explore India’s rich culture. Kings of India creates a way to share the legacies of four extensive, prosperous and culturally innovative dynasties based on their boldest kings. Regardless of age, culture and language, these playing cards will allow you to discover some extravagant characters, surprising facts and curiosities of India’s culture; what you find inside might just spark an unexpected interest.
The court cards reveal details of a legendary monarch and his queen from the Maurya, Gupta, Chola & Mughal dynasties. A well-deserved successor, who in some cases became even greater, is featured as the Jack.
Every inch of this deck has been illustrated from scratch, from the numbers and suits to the chest hairs on our Kings. Each card follows the key features and structure of the modern British deck.
From ancient weapons to eccentric moustaches, you can expect to find marvelous illustrated details for each court card based on actual research sourced from artifacts, sculptures and documented history.
We've designed Kings of India so that exploring history doesn't get in the way of playing your favourite game of cards. The numbers and suits are easily legible and key playing card features (like your one-eyed Jacks and the Suicide King) are well taken care of.
We have obsessed over every detail; this is why Kings of India will be made in North America by one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium playing cards. The United States Playing Card Company [USPCC] has 125 years of expertise with a reputable history of producing decks of high quality. With a ‘magic’ finish and strict production standards, Kings of India will be of exceptional quality so your cards not only last longer but handle smoother for shuffling, dealing and tricks.

We need your help to bring Kings of India Playing Cards to life. By backing this project, you can help us meet the minimum order quantity to print with USPCC, and in exchange you’ll be among the first to get your hands on this deck. If we reach the funding goal in time, you'll be a key part of making this project a reality.
In addition to the Kings of India deck, you can indulge in some additional rewards that have been exclusively designed for this Kickstarter campaign. First select a reward tier, then you can add as many of the following 'add-ons' as you'd like. Just add the correct amount listed in the 'add-ons' table below to your pledge amount. If we reach our funding goal, you will receive a survey at the end of the campaign that allows you to specify the quantity and type of add-ons you have ordered.
To add on the following products, first select a reward tier from the rewards section. When finalizing your pledge amount, simply add the correct add-on amount depending on where you live. For example, if you are a US backer that selected 2 decks as a reward ($29 + $6 shipping) and would like to add a set of coasters, simply add $34 to your total pledge amount, making it $69. If you decide to buy an add-on later, you can use the 'Manage' button to adjust your pledge amount. You will receive a survey at the end of the campaign where you can let us know which add-ons you wanted.
Shipping is included with every add-on. (Except for local pickup backers, who must pick up their entire order)
Think of Kickstarter as a place where you can help support a project like ours and in return we offer you a series of rewards depending on your pledge. Here's how it works:
When you pledge money, you pick a reward. For example, when you pledge $15, you get one Kings of India deck. If you pledge a higher amount, you can choose to redeem a higher reward package or add on other incentives like the coasters or prints. Once you've chosen what type of reward you would like to receive, Kickstarter will ask you to register in order to record your pledge. They will safely set up your payment but you will ONLY be billed at the end of our campaign IF our project reaches its funding goal.
You can modify or cancel your pledge at any time while the campaign is active. By pledging your support, you’re helping to bring this product to life. For that we will be forever grateful. Thank you for taking the time to be here, and we hope that you enjoy following this project on Instagram @humbleraja . Feel free to get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Risks and challenges
All of the artwork is finished and we have produced mockups that are as close to real as we could get them. There may be minor refinements to the design and colour as we work with the USPCC to ensure the final prints are as best as they can be.
We’ve done our best to plan and added in some buffer, but print delays are still possible. Either way, we will do our best to keep you posted and resolve any issues at hand.
Shipping is expensive. That’s why we are shipping from the US with the USPS in order to make shipping as affordable as possible. As with any shipment, it's always possible that packages might get lost or stolen or held in customs. We’ll do our best to resolve the situation, so hang in there. We want you all to safely receive your hard earned rewards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
