Exclusive New Music from DJ QBert!
See that new video right there? Yup, it's an exclusive track called "Labyrinth" that DJ QBert's been working on for his brand new upcoming album. When Qbert dropped the track on us, we just couldn't stop listening to it and now we can finally share it with you, the supporters! Its hypnotically skratched melody and mysterious tribal rhythms inspire calmer images of Kinausu at night when vigilant heroes keep watch over their villages deep into the early morning.
For folks who want more than 30 seconds, here's an extended clip:

Defend Your Village, Be a Hero
Battle Tails is a free-to-play side-scrolling Tower Defense game which focuses on three major components for gameplay: defensive structures, offensive units, and your Hero. Each of these have their own unique characteristics for changing the tide of battle, and have distinct advantages and disadvantages against the other units in battle. Discover the Three Clans battling each other (snow monkeys, lightning tigers and boso ichiban punks!) further down this KS page!
The core gameplay of Battle Tails revolves around sending out waves of troops to combat your rival’s army (Plants Vs Zombies anyone?). Choosing and strengthening your troops in strategic ways, and then releasing them at the right time is of the utmost importance to fighting and winning battles; each unit has their own advantages and disadvantages against your foes. Foot soldiers are resistant to arrows, but Air units are ultra weak to those long-ranged weapons - and sometimes a massive Tank unit is what the situation calls for...for a price.
Your chosen Hero can affect the battle in huge ways - each of them having different attacks and specials, and can be customized with items you pick up along your journey. These characters represent the pinnacle of Huck Gee's design and creativity, and as such are the keystones for leading your armies into battle. You'll recognize these heroes from the Gold Life Universe. A single Ultimate attack from you or your opponent could change the course of battle and the history of Kinausu!
Building this game and this universe isn't cheap. High quality art and animation takes time and resources. Multiplayer means more fun, but also more support infrastructure, hardware, and code. More funding helps us support more artists and animators who will help bring the Battle Tails world to life. I'll be creating custom handmade pieces (like General Shirokuri up above) with the goal of making some of the most unique and exclusive Kickstarter rewards ever.
So, please check out the details below for rewards, freebies and more ways you can be a part of Battle Tails History. Help me bring this world to life.

The Development of Battle Tails
The idea for Battle Tails was first formed last summer by Huck Gee and one of his most avid collectors. They launched a search for one of the best indie game developers and later joined forces with the folks at Nom Games and Bearo. There was an immediate realization of mutual appreciation (obsession) for Designer Toys and Video Games. The first concept drawings were done in a matter of days and after a quick animation test, it was clear Battle Tails had to become a reality. We told our friend DJ QBert about the idea since he himself is a huge gamer and he was immediately interested in getting involved. QBert's beats added a whole new dimension to the concept.
The initial Game Design ("Bible") was written in December of last year and since then we've made a tremendous amount of progress both on the development and the art production side:
- Prototype Battle Gameplay including basic Heroes, Units, and Towers completed
- Artwork and Animation for Clan Six Tails nearing final revisions and proofing
- Concept Art for all Three Major Clans completed
- Game Lore and Character Backstory completed. More to be revealed as this Kickstarter campaign progresses!
There is still a ton of art/level production and game development ahead of us in addition to the two (or three!) other clans and we can't do it without your support!
The Great Kingdom of Kinausu
Kinausu… a land of majestic cities, soaring mountains, bamboo forests, floating villages, jungle islands, and pirate laden seas. It is a land of trade, magic, martial prowess, intrigue and adventure, of brigands, treasure maps and of ancient crypts waiting to be looted. Of airships and flying cities, of gods and monsters, it is a land in which the dragon refuses to remain myth.
It is a splintered kingdom of oppressed fiefdoms and ancient clans which has seen itself tenuously ruled by warring kings and shoguns for far too many millennia. With the majority of these rulers failing to retain power for any significant length of time, most just become footnotes in the history books, which means that for many people of Kinausu, conflict is simply a way of life, like the ebb and flow of the seasons.
Some lands have fared the conflict better than others, those enclosed in great walls and with great armies, or those lucky enough to offer nothing of strategic importance. Others, unfortunately, have been razed many times over with no chance to prosper. And for some, those clans that wanted nothing to do with ruling the world, they withdrew to their homelands, locked their doors and removed themselves from the business of silly conquests and ridiculous kings.
Of the great cities, a few have grown to be splendorous and exotic mini-kingdoms of great magic and wealth. Trading hubs full of ports, both of sea and of air. Cities full of soaring buildings and lavish gardens, of renowned libraries and academics, of exotic foods, bustling streets and magical modes of transport. And running the breadth of these cities and lands lurks the far reaching web of the underworld, the shadowy marketplace for those who traffic in ill-gotten information and the procurement of dirty goods and death.
And above it all, Kinausu is a Kingdom where gold rules supreme. It is flaunted and flashed to show power and status, it is horded by those that have it and it haunts the dreams of those that do not. It is a currency, it is a way of life, and for many it consumes the soul. It is Gold Life.
What mysteries lie in the ancient grounds of this mysterious land? Explore the map and grow your clan’s empire as you travel from village to village conquering foes and discovering new heroes. You just might be able to lure a few of them to your side...
Hailing from the wintery northlands, Clan Six Tails is a tight family-based community comprised of snow monkeys and a handful of their gorilla cousins. They are led in battle by the renowned General Shirokuri. Once called lightning incarnate, the General was keen to never rely on brute force, instead using his wits to outflank and outmaneuver his opponents. After the wars, the people gave his name to a majestic peak. And to this day, rumor has it that the rare, white chestnuts of Mount Shirokuri have mystical powers.
Clan Ten Thousand Winds is a powerful magic wielding warrior clan that hails from the Northwoods region. Comprised of tigers and their ilk, they are a proud and fierce bunch. Led by the great Daimyo Felinious Tunk. He is quite a sight to behold on the battlefield clad in his golden armor, with powerful energy crackling around him. Many a tale has been written of Clan Ten Thousand Wind’s brave warrior spirit, powerful mages and the magical steam powered mechanical monstrosities they ride into battle.
The infamous Boso Ichiban Clan is a rather unpleasant gang comprised of bandits, gamblers and unemployed mercenaries. They bicker, are unorganized, and don’t bathe very often. Tattooed, mohawked, pierced, loud, drunk and rowdy. That about sums them up. The only man able to keep this ragtag bunch of hooligans under any semblance of control is the massive and formidable Yamahonda! A disgraced former Sumo champion, known for his short temper and powerful appetite.

Risks and challenges
Huck and the Nom Games team have already made great progress in the development of Battle Tails. We foresee little risk associated with a 2013 release and are looking to the Kickstarter community to help us hire more resources to enhance the great set of base characters and game features that are already in development.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
