Frequently Asked Questions
To add-on items as they become unlocked and available, simply increase the amount of your pledge, without changing your reward level. We will collect information about what you added-on in the survey after the campaign ends. (It's helpful to make a note for yourself about what you're adding, especially if you're adding multiple items.)
There is a chart for add-ons that shows you how much to increase your pledge for each item. This will include the shipping amount for each region (US, CA, everywhere else). Because we're running a streamlined campaign, we're not using a pledge manager this year, and add-ons need to be done before the end of the campaign. If you have any questions about this process, let us know!Last updated:
There is no native app on TVs for the streaming platform, but here are two ways we know work for using your TV to watch the video streams:
- If your TV has an HDMI input, you can connect your computer or tablet with an HDMI cable. You may need an adapter to do this. (this is the easiest method and also gives you the highest quality video)
- If you have Chromecast, you can cast your chrome browser from your computer to your TV, then make the video viewer full screen. (this also works for Android tablets and phones, but not iPads and iPhones. If you've got an iPad or iPhone, there are apps like Web Video Caster, but it may take some trial and error to make them work. We have also successfully used Web Video Caster to cast video from our iPhone to Roku, and the Air Screen app on the Amazon FireTV stick, which allows you to Airplay from iPhones and iPads.)
- There may be other ways to accomplish this, but these are the ways we know work. We'll update this if we have new information, and we'll include information when we send instructions for how to watch the stream.Last updated:
The festival will begin on Thursday afternoon October 1st and run through Sunday night October 4th. Each day, the films and any pre-recorded content will be available on that day and stay available through the end of the festival. Live events will be broadcast and recorded in case you miss the live broadcast. All content will be shut off on Monday, October 5th, but you'll have some time on Monday to catch up on anything you might have missed during the weekend.Last updated:
After the campaign ends, we will send you a survey through Kickstarter (we're not using a third party pledge manager this year). In the survey, you'll be able to designate your shirt size, or style- if you've got a choice of hoody or camp shirt.Last updated:
We will be sending instructions via email on how to log in and watch all the films, panels, and extra content. You'll want to make sure that you add the hplff.com domain to your whitelist so you don't miss anything! If you successfully pledged at a level with a streaming festival pass, but have not seen an email by the start of the festival (Oct 1st), please message us so we can get your sorted out.Last updated:

The Lapel Pin has always been a membership badge of sorts, and is reserved for our faithful cultists who pledge for the full attendee/streaming package. It is a perk at higher level rewards and is not available a la carte.Last updated:
You have likely noticed that this campaign is very late, even for us! When people asked earlier in the summer if we were still having an in-person festival, our answer was, "we don't know, and we probably won't know until it's too late for us to do a Kickstarter campaign." All of that was true, but we decided to do the Kickstarter campaign anyway, to give our International fans a crack at the streaming passes, and to give you a new lapel pin and t-shirt for your collection! But, late also necessitates streamlining.
Our annual Kickstarter has been a great way for us to support and promote other creators in our community by offering their work as part of our rewards. In return for them making a limited number of exclusive items for us, we provide them with a sponsor package that includes a vending space in the theater. This year, with no vending space to give and very little time to put together this campaign, getting custom made woodcut prints or sculptures just wasn't feasible. Next year, assuming we can have an in-person festival, we hope to be able to offer those kinds of rewards again.
For this year, the greatest reward is that anyone in the world can pledge for a level with a streaming pass, and can watch a lot of films they wouldn't otherwise be able to see!Last updated:
We do need your support this year even though we don't have the same expenses. Moving the festival online sounds simple, but as it turns out, doing a streaming show vs a live show presents a whole different set of expenses and equipment. Streaming the films in a secure format, broadcasting live Q&As, panels, and presentations, filming intros, requires additional software and technology in order to do this from our house.Last updated:
