Support the annual H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival, October 4-6, and join us as we journey (metaphorically) to Lovecraft's fabled Plateau of Leng, from whence all Arcane knowledge comes! Through our rewards, the threads of occultism and the influence of the Elder Ones on humankind throughout history are revealed, from the earliest dabblings in creating life out of primordial essences to divining the future through seemingly simple games. Then bring this forbidden knowledge to the festival in October, where our Guest of honor is Victoria Price, daughter of Vincent Price! Special guests also include filmmakers Roger Corman (The Haunted Palace, Deathrace 2000, and House of Usher) and Richard Stanley (Hardware, The Color Out of Space).
- We have rewards for both those who can come to the festival, as well as those that just want to get some cool limited edition Cthulhu Mythos exclusives mailed to you (anywhere in the world)! Rewards shown here will not be available after the Kickstarter ends.
- If you're coming to the festival, you can pick up your rewards at the festival!
- If you need rewards shipped, shipping costs will be charged separately after the campaign ends (based on actual weight and your location) in PledgeManager. Reward levels do not include shipping costs.
- Plain festival passes ($70) and single day tickets will go on sale through the Hollywood Theatre shortly (but pledging here for the Deluxe 3-Day level is a better deal and includes exclusive items, for only $28 more).
- VIP levels get you a catered party (Thurs, Oct 3, 7-10pm) with live musical entertainment, and early entry to the theater on opening night.

ALL STRETCH GOALS UNLOCKED!
We funded! And, with your help we've been able to unlock every Stretch Goal. That means we can cover not only our most basic upfront expense, but a whole load of other expenses to make this a great festival. We are also now able to more fully evangelize Lovecraftian cinema by producing the Best of 2019 DVDs and Blu-Rays.
This is a community-driven campaign to support Lovecraftian film and the arts, not a commercial project that we can spend money advertising; we rely on you, the community, to spread the word and make this happen! Once the stretch goals below are unlocked, some levels will automatically have stretch goal rewards added to them (info on Silver and Gold Shoggoth Levels at the end of this section).
SILVER SHOGGOTH LEVELS ARE: $100 Shadows Out of Time, $175 Traveler From Beyond the Stars, $198 VIP 3-Day, $390 VIP for TWO
GOLD SHOGGOTH LEVELS ARE: $250 VIP Pharos of Leng, $315 Deluxe Traveler From Beyond the Stars, $325 VIP Experience Levels, $500 All Access level and all levels above

If we reach this level, we'll be able to produce the Best of 2019 Short Film Collection on DVD, for delivery in Spring/Summer 2020. One DVD will be automatically added to all GOLD SHOGGOTH reward levels, and will be available as a discounted add-on.
$48,000 Best of 2019 HD Blu-Ray
We'll set aside funds to produce a high definition version of the Best of 2019 Short Film Collection on Blu-ray disc. With the films we've been putting on these collections for the past few years, trust me, you want the high definition! This will be available as a discounted add-on, or with a modest upgrade fee for those getting the DVD.
$51,000 Virtual Ticket
We'll unlock a special "There in Spirit" streaming experience that will include at least 3 blocks of short films (over 4 hours), plus a selection of additional programming, including some main stage and EOD center events. Included at all SILVER & GOLD SHOGGOTH Reward levels. This makes the VIP and "There in Spirit" reward levels an exceptional value! This is our highest Stretch Goal, because creating a worthwhile stream involves a lot of planning, scheduling, volunteer and paid labor, and after hours work during the festival itself.
A word about Stretch Goals: Most Kickstarter campaigns use Stretch Goals as a way to increase the value of a product that is already funded and take advantage of economies of scale to upgrade items (like a leather cover edition of a game book, for example). With us, it doesn't quite work that way; even if the campaign made $100k, after fees and reward production costs, it still would not cover all of the festival expenses. Nonetheless, we love offering Stretch Goals to encourage our backers to SHARE THE CAMPAIGN. The #1 thing that both this Kickstarter and the festival needs is more people behind them!
Before calling up the Elders on the plateau of Leng, for the transmission of secret knowledge, the practitioner must take certain precautions to ensure their safety.
Our Pharos of Leng T-shirt is designed by Brian Callahan and contains the ceremonial circle used for summoning the Watchers - shades of the Elder Things who inhabit the temple laboratories on the Plateau of Leng. Throughout history, they've instructed humans in the arcane arts, including the reconstitution of essential saltes, casting the mind through time, bodily travel to other planes and stars, and the creation of subservient life. Many of our forebears, from the wizards Waite and Curwen to the witch Keziah have studied their secrets. This shirt is a KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE and will only be produced for campaign backers, and will NOT BE FOR SALE LATER. The design features cool glow-in-the-dark accents and secret messages for you to decode. PLUS backers at certain levels will have their names encoded and scribed in occult script within the circle for extra protection.
At certain levels, advanced practitioners can adorn themselves with our Pharos of Leng talisman pin. This offers protection from malignant beings, and is highly recommended for those seeking to travel beyond our sphere into the outer dimensions. This CAMPAIGN EXCLUSIVE pin has a shiny silver finish, with deep black and bright blue enamel colors. A return to our eldritch occult designs of our early Kickstarter campaigns.
Our Shoggoth Specimen may be what ancient alchemists called the "homunculus." The Elder Things created all life on earth, and now the secret can be yours! These disturbingly life-like shoggoth sculptures are individually sculpted by Tin Plate Studios.
Practitioners learning the secrets of the Occult from Leng's Elder Things prepare this amulet to wield more advanced techniques and calculations in their works. Featuring the five-pointed representation of the Masters' form, this amulet will be sculpted, cast, and hand-painted by artist Dave Correia.
One of the most treacherous ceremonies allows the practitioner to open the gateway to the Steps of Deeper Slumber and journey to the edges of Leng that exist in the Dreamlands, where they can learn even more from the yellow-robed Priest of Leng. Pledge for this sculpture of the hideous priest created by Catalyst Studios. It stands approximately 4 inches tall, and is individually hand-finished.
Those lucky enough to return from beyond the gates of the Dreamlands may bring with them the secrets of seeing through time, like those known by the beings of Yith, through the use of the Key of Leng, a wood scrying device with the appearance of an ancient book.
This game is a unique book-shaped fold-out board, hand made in the workshop of Arkham Bazaar, with game pieces created by Catalyst Studios. More photos coming soon.
The official poster is created by Portland artist Liv Rainey-Smith as a hand-carved, inked, and pulled wood block print. At many levels, you can get the artwork reproduced on our 11"x17" festival poster, but at higher-levels, you can get the limited edition version of the frontispiece art hand-printed from a wood block! This year's piece is being carved on a 12x12" block, and the prints are available to our backers at a tremendously good value! One is included in the Deluxe Traveler From Beyond the Stars, All Access Monk of Leng, All Access Priest of Leng, and at executive producer levels. A limited number of wood cut prints will be available as add-ons in PledgeManager for $100. This type of limited edition print would normally start at $150.
VIP Party - Lola's Room
Our 60's occult-themed VIP party is taking place Thursday, October 3rd, 7-10pm at Lola's room (1332 W Burnside St.), beneath the Crystal Ballroom. Our musical guest is Portland-local artist, SORIAH. Soriah performs a unique form of Tuvan throat-singing that you won't believe unless you hear it emanating live from a human being. You can also hobnob with some of our special guests, while enjoying hot hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Fancy dress is optional, but highly encouraged, especially if you can summon up some groovy 60's or fancy occultist looks (think "Simon: King of The Witches" or "The Devil Rides Out")... Hammer-age velvet bodices, flowy colorful robes, suits with pentacle rings, big medallions, etc. Optional, but fun!

A full 3-day festival pass is included in Attend, VIP, and All Access levels. This includes a Kickstarter exclusive souvenir badge that come with additional perks like priority theater entry.

What (and Where) is the Plateau of Leng?
What does it all mean, E.? Leng is a fabled region in H. P. Lovecraft's fiction, but like many parts of his Mythos, references to it were meant to confuse or conflate, rather than define. His early story, "The Hound" mentions that Leng is in Central Asia, and Dyer echoes this notion in At The Mountains of Madness: "Mythologists have placed Leng in Central Asia; but the racial memory of man—or of his predecessors—is long, and it may well be that certain tales have come down from lands and mountains and temples of horror earlier than Asia and earlier than any human world we know... the conviction grew upon us that this hideous upland must indeed be the fabled nightmare plateau of Leng which even the mad author of the Necronomicon was reluctant to discuss." In The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, Leng is located in the north of The Dreamlands and contains an ancient monastery inhabited by a mysterious and monstrous high priest in yellow silken robes that is sometimes associated with Hastur. However, we also know that there are places that exist in both the Dreamlands and in the "real" world, and locations where one world bleeds into another. So, Dyer is convinced that Leng is in the Antarctic, and is the home for the (nearly) abandoned city which is the last outpost of the Elder Things. But, is the "Leng" of Antarctica's lost grandeur, as the Elder Things' original city, the inspiration for its whispered Central Asia location, eons after their war with the spawn of Cthulhu, the Mi-Go, and the uprising of the Shoggoths, or is it the mirror of a "fairy-tale" version still thriving (but under different ownership) in the ongoing world of The Dreamlands? So, where is it, then? If you can point to it on a map, Lovecraft would feel that he hadn't done his job well enough. Like mythological Eldorado, which at various times was rumored to exist in different locations throughout North, Central, and South America, Leng wasn't an attempt at Tolkien-esque world-building, but a way for Lovecraft to evoke the uncertainty and inaccuracy of mythology to create a sense in the reader of uneasiness, a sense that the world around is constructed of places and things that we can't quite put our finger on, that defy definition and explanation, and which are ultimately, and horribly, outside of our ability to control or understand.
Despite the looseness of Lovecraft's references to his own "mythos", there are nonetheless interesting threads that pull certain elements of his stories together. While the Elder Things play a central role in At The Mountains of Madness, they are also witnessed by Gilman on another planet in "The Dreams in The Witch House," consorting and likely making pacts or communicating secrets to the witch Keziah Mason. She has likely traveled through the 4th dimension, perhaps with the aid of Nyarlathotep in the guise of the black man of the witches, and later she tries to force Gilman to sign his name in the book of Azathoth. Nyarlathotep is also a central figure in The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, where he is responsible for flinging Carter through space towards Azathoth's throne of chaos. Witches, Elder Things, Nyarlathotep, Azathoth, the Plateau of Leng in the Dreamlands, and perhaps the Plateau of Leng in the Antarctic where the Elder Things once ruled. The creation of life - the Shoggoths - by the Elder Things, the reconstitution of essential saltes by Joseph Curwen, the wizard Waite swapping one mind for another and making a visit to the Shoggoth pits, travel through space and time to reach a planet with three suns, or to reach back to the golden city of your childhood, or to send your mind forward in time to the library in Pnakotus. There are a lot of unexplored connections here.
For this year's festival campaign rewards, we're pulling all these threads together, to create artifacts from a Leng that is the original city of the Elder Things, where they taught ancient sorcerers the secrets of magic-seeming science, including the ability to travel beyond our world to that mirror world of the Dreamlands, to learn even more hideous secrets from that nightmare land which exists somehow closer to Azathoth's throne of chaos.
Risks and challenges
If we reach our goal, we'll have the resources needed to complete our programming, take care of our guests, and provide an even more amazing experience for attendees. If we don't reach our goal, we will have to pawn everything and probably make a deal with a crossroads demon to fund the festival. This will be our 11th festival as directors, so we are comfortable with all the processes that make up the festival. Also, this is our 7th Kickstarter for the HPLFF. The first six were very successful so we do not anticipate any problems with fulfillment of rewards, since we're pretty used to the process now.
Once successfully funded, we will need to start the process of printing T-shirts, producing the lapel pins and other physical rewards. Most of these jobs have already been arranged and are just waiting for us to greenlight them at the end of our Kickstarter project. With successful funding, we will also be able to begin confirming special events, as well as book additional films that provide historical perspective on Cosmic Horror in Cinema. As a backer, you will be kept in the loop on all these developments leading up to the festival, so that you can be sure that we are fulfilling our end of the bargain.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
