ABOUT ME & THIS PROJECT
Hi there! I'm Rachel, and I'm raising money to record my very first EP! I've been a musician for almost my whole life, and I've been writing songs since I was about 13 or 14. A little over 10 years ago, I packed up and headed south from Wisconsin to Kansas City to pursue what I felt God had for my life in regards to music and worship leading. The last 10 years have been packed with one exciting life event after another. I attended worship school for a year, went on to get my music degree from university, met my husband, had a baby, started teaching music lessons, served as a worship leader with my husband at our local church, moved from Kansas City to my husband's small Kentucky hometown, and then had another baby, some health issues, and so on and so forth. I've "grown up", in a sense, and I'm so grateful for my journey so far.
Over the last decade, I've experienced things that caused me to lean into God like I hadn't before. A lot of times, that looked like me going to the piano and playing and singing my thoughts, or singing a new melody while rocking one of my kids. The songs I've written over the last decade come from my journey as a young woman, wife, mother, and follower of Jesus, and everything that comes with that. I've written worship songs by myself and with my husband for our local church. Worship leading is a huge part of our calling, and I love writing corporate worship songs for the Church. I have also battled with immense anxiety, & depression, and you'll hear some of that in my songs. These songs are honest, and I hope they will resonate with you as you listen. I pray my vulnerability can be a doorway for you to be honest with God, and to let Him meet you wherever you are. Also, that you would find that you're really not alone. I want you to experience a sense of camaraderie as you listen. To know that we all are figuring life out and we're not perfect. That is what so many of my favorite inspirational artists have done for me; put words & melodies to things I have gone through or am currently going through. These are songs about love, family, and faith. My heart is that my music would accompany you in your ordinary day to day, and that you would find the sense of holiness that comes in those spaces. I believe in the power of music, its ability to communicate, and the impact it has on society. This is my passion, and I just want to thank you for coming alongside me in the process. Here are just a few songs I've written over the years:
PRODUCTION & COST
That being said, I will be working with one. amazing. producer/engineer, Jacob Early. The story behind how we got linked up is really fun, and we basically have a few mutual friends and it's awesome. He has also produced and mixed some of mine and Jason's favorite artists, and we didn't realize that until after we approached him to do a project together. He is an artist himself, and we were immediately drawn to his sound and style by hearing his music on a playlist on Spotify. He believes in my work, and I know we are going to make something really beautiful together. I already have some money saved to go towards the record, but an additional $10,000 is what we need to complete the actual recording of the EP, and a few other things that I'll list below. This length of this project will likely be somewhere between 5-7 songs. We do have a stretch goal of $15,000, so anything extra you may decide to give will be used for things that I'll also list below. So, where is it ALL going, you ask? Let me break it down for you, because if you're like me, it's so helpful to have a list to get an idea. :
- musicians on the record
- mixing & mastering
- graphic design (album art)
- some album merchandise
- disc manufacturing
- travel expenses (we will likely be working mainly in Charlotte and/or Nashville) & lodging
- social media marketing
- more album merchandise*
- miscellaneous fees & costs (Kickstarter, copyright, etc.)
- more songs on the album or released as singles!
*Don't worry! Extra $$ or not, you will still receive your rewards for whatever tier you pledge on if I raise all the funds! :)
I consider myself a budding independent artist. This means, I have no record label. So, I rely a lot on friends, family, and social media to get the word out about my music. My "manager" (if you want to call it that) is my husband and myself. I don't have any other songs of mine that have ever been recorded & released to the public (except one or two VERY non-professional videos on Youtube). So, all things to say, your help MEANS. SO. MUCH. I am so honored that you would take the time to listen to and read some of my story, and I pray that this music BLESSES YOUR LIFE.
Risks and challenges
Well, I've never done crowd funding before, but it is definitely risky. This is an "all or nothing" campaign, which means I either raise ALL the money ON TIME, or I get none of it at all. And this is a lot of money.
Also, I have done my best to try and gage a budget for each item listed, but I know as with almost any creative endeavor, there is almost always something that comes up that may not have originally been in the budget.
Lastly, spreading the word about this album will be a challenge, but with the power of friends, family, and social media, I know it will get in the hands and ears of people who need to hear it.
I am confident that we can make something really beautiful together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
