Please help me turn this project into the novel that it was meant to be
For many years I have been working on this story and trying to write it as a book. But I finally realized a painful truth; I'm not a writer, I'm a story teller. In my profession as a talk show host I tell stories every day.
With this realization I changed course and decided to tell my story in podcast form. To make the story feel as though I was relating a story instead of reading I free formed telling the story with just bullet points as notes.
To my surprise and happiness the Hosts of Eden Podcast has been very well received. In fact, it is currently featured by Apple Podcasts in their Modern Radio Drama section. Most of the reviews are 5 stars which blows my mind.
So hear is where I need your help. Many people have been asking for me to publish this story as a novel but I am still faced with the knowledge that I'm not a writer. The steps involved will be:
- Have the recording of the 11 episode podcast transcribed into text
- Hire a writer to collaborate with to fill in the rest of the story and flesh out the dialogue and scenes
- Hire an editor to prepare the novel for publication
- Publish and distribute the product digitally and hard copy
- Rejoice that years of dreaming about completing this project have finally born fruit
Hosts of Eden is the story of a patient in a mental institution who is suffering from multiple personality disorder. One day he starts to claim that he is the President of the United States and he has some very specific knowledge about the current president. This is impossible because he has been locked in the institution for years. Meanwhile the real President in the Whitehouse starts acting very strange.
This story is fast moving, entertaining, and very funny. It will keep you guessing until the very end.
Here are some of the reviews from Apple Podcasts
Madcap cliffhanging fun by BeckyBruceZani "This is a wild dash of a story -- I'm only two episodes in but I can't wait to hear more. It's like X-Files had a love child with a novel and it gave birth to this podcast."
Really good by allfam "I listened to the first two episodes yesterday and absolutely loved them. This is more of a "storytelling" rather than an audiobook-type experience. Really interesting method, and I think it works. Excited for future installments."
Risks and challenges
My biggest challenge will be finding an author who loves these characters and story as much as I do.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
