What is Bad Words?
An incredibly dirty game where the goal is to get others to guess your word, without saying any of the 5 words found on your card. Check out the video for more information on gameplay and get to know the Hosnovan team (when they're very very drunk)! The base deck comes with 208 words total, with the Deluxe Edition providing an expansion to that (see stretch goals above for how many words added)
For just a PDF version of the game, you can pledge $3 or more!
For the physical game and a PDF version, you can pledge $15 or more!
For the deluxe edition which will include the physical game, a pdf version AND an additional 72 words you can pledge $25 or more!
The best part? FREE SHIPPING (to the continental US).
We feel that these price points are not only affordable, but a deal for the quality game that you're getting.
So why do you want a copy of this?
Well, we may not know your humor, but if you enjoy raunchy comedy, this is the game for you! This is an 18+ game, and we truly mean that. Our dirtiest word in this game is not something stupid like "Skinny Jeans" or "Visible Panty Line". This game is filled with Bad Words. Words you don't want to say around your mom (unless she's cool, man). The cost is affordable, and your friends will be asking to play it every time you guys hang out (we know ours still do!) So jump in and make your get together's more fun by bringing Bad Words to the table!
The History of Bad Words Over the course of the last 15 months we've been very dedicated to getting the Hosnovan company off the ground. Four friends who have similar goals and interests have come together to make a product that anyone with a mind similar to ours can enjoy! Unfortunately, when you go into a project with literally no background in card games, you learn quite quickly that it can be a challenge. We launched Bad Words in our first go around in February 2016. A few things we learned in this first trial were that finding a supplier that is affordable can mean everything. We had a $30,000 goal and only made a little over 10% of that in the 30 days the campaign was around. Price point is very important. $25 was just a tad too expensive for the main game AND that didn't include shipping costs either... Our second launch of Bad Words happened in March of 2016. That too was a failure, but we looked at it as a great learning experience. In trial 2 we learned that you need to have a following for your product and a market for it. We had a much smaller goal for that go around of $12,000. We came MUCH closer to that goal. We raised over 50% of the $12,000 in the course of the 30 days, but we had trouble getting the product in front of people.
So why try again you may ask? The answer here is simple. People want Bad Words. We got hit with a ton of messages clamoring for the game to still be released. People wanted the game. Not enough people that we could make 1,000 copies, sure... But enough that we knew we needed to figure it out. We went back to the drawing board with this one. We thought about all the things we did wrong. We made the gameplay more simple. We've made packaging that makes sense for the game. We have made a better Bad Words.
The game consists of 52 cards, 2 words on each side of each card. A total of 200 words, we've condensed the game a lot from the initial inception. We went back to the drawing board, took the words that we felt like were less than stellar out. We've got a list of words that we think is the best quality to fit the game for us and for you. This is all factored into the price point. We wanted to give you the best game we could at a very affordable cost for you.
Gameplay is improved! Play consists of 2-7 people. Every person playing gets 7 cards. There are no teams. Everyone takes a one minute turn, and you get anyone else to guess as many of your cards as you can. If you correctly guess the word, you get the card which counts as a point. Your goal is to have the most points in the end!
Finally, the packaging. We were packing our humongous game in a big box, which may have looked aesthetically pleasing, but was troubling for a handful of reasons. The box was too big and not very ideal for travel, it had a lot of empty space, and increased the cost of shipping. We've made the packaging easier for travel by condensing it into a card deck box, which in turn makes the cost of shipping much more affordable.
(We mention words like 'visible panty lines' and 'skinny jeans' because deep into this 14 months process, we discovered over the weekend that last month Hasbro released an 'adult' version of Taboo. You can find on our Facebook a live video of us going through a breakdown of our initial opinions of their version and the audience that it is best suited for. Long story short. Taboo is rated E, Midnight Taboo is rated PG-13, and Bad Words is firmly rated R and NC-17, find the one best fit for your tastes and enjoy yourself!)
Risks and challenges
While we may produce videos and interact live on Facebook while under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol, we are incredibly dedicated to bringing our friends and fans high quality products. We have secured relationships with multiple vendors to meet the needs of this project. The product is complete, we are simply looking for the funding to mass produce and provide to the public. Shipping delays would be the only potential issue for this, but we are hoping that if any pirates come across our cargo that they will be impressed with our game and will want to personally hand deliver it to your door.
