Alone™: 2nd Print Run with New Contents and Localizations
Alone is an asymmetric survival horror game for 2 to 4 players. One player controls the castaway Hero, who has a limited amount of time to complete missions while exploring a map full of dangers and traps that only gets revealed to them a small bit at a time. Up to 3 more players control the forces of Evil, plotting behind their screen against the Hero. They can see the whole map at all times, they control all the creatures lurking in the darkness, and they can play cards to react to the Hero’s actions, with the ultimate goal of killing them.
Let's start right from the good stuff: here's what you get with your pledge:
In cooperation with our dear friends at CMON Limited, we realized a crossover pack between Alone and Zombicide: Invader! This promo pack is included with all the Pledge Levels available in this campaign, but to use these promo cards, you need to own both the Alone core box and Zombicide: Invader.
Note that anything marked with this:
is an Exclusive item for Kickstarter backers, with remaining stock available at conventions and special promotions only.
You can track this project on Kicktraq.
Alone has been created by Andrea Crespi and Lorenzo Silva, two of the designers of the award-winning Potion Explosion, with stunning artwork by Steve Hamilton and highly detailed miniatures sculpted by Stephane Simon and Stéphane Nguyen Van Gioi.
Depending on which side you choose, Hero or Evil, the gameplay is completely different. As the Hero player, you have 8 Turn tokens that you can spend to perform actions. You can MOVE to adjacent sectors, at the risk of falling into the Evil players’ traps, or you can EXPLORE beforehand, to force the Evil players to reveal parts of the map before you move, preventing their devious tricks but losing some precious time. Should you meet hideous creatures waiting for you, remember that brainlessly shooting at everything you see won’t get you far: as you only have an extremely limited supply of ammo, a safe retreat is often the wisest move. Sometimes you will be forced to FIGHT, though, so be sure you’re prepared.
By using the LOCATE action, you can force the Evil players to tell you how far you are from your target locations or other critical elements such as doors, light switches, creatures, and so on. You can also SCAVENGE the environment to find useful items, weapons, and armor, and combine these items to upgrade them and unlock new, stronger abilities. Finally, you can INTERACT with devices you find while you explore to switch on the lights in the otherwise dark space station, or to complete your missions. When you have spent all the available Turn tokens, a round is over. With the most distant parts of the map removed from the table at the end of each round, you’ll have to use your memory, tactical wits, and deduction skills to work your way through the map and reach your goals before you run out of time.
As the Hero, you have 2 Health meters: the Health Points meter and the Self Control meter. The HP meter measures the physical damage you take, while the SC meter measures the psychological damage. As you take damage (of both kinds), your life will be more and more in danger, but the amount of Adrenaline at your disposal at the beginning of each round is gradually increased, and Adrenaline is one of your strongest assets, as it allows you to perform two Actions in a row preventing Evil Reactions, or to heal yourself.
If you’d rather be one of the malicious beings trying to kill the Hero, you’ll have to plan long term strategies. Where is the Hero going? What is the most likely route they’ll follow? Which actions are they likely to perform next? In Alone it is always the Hero’s turn, there is no proper “Evil turn”. After each Action performed by the Hero, you have the chance to perform a Reaction to hamper the Hero's efforts. To do so, you rely on your Reaction cards.
You can play Reaction cards face-down to SPAWN or MOVE a wide range of creatures, with different strengths and weaknesses, to obstruct the Hero’s path. Each Reaction card can also be played face-up in reaction to a specific action performed by the Hero, to alter the outcome of those actions or hit them with effective counterstrikes and powerful combos. At the end of each round, you can also place Danger tokens on the map: they can unlock additional effects on your Reaction cards if you play them at the right time and place!
Beware, though: whenever you place something on the map, you produce sounds, warning the Hero about the impending menaces. Thanks to the memory cache of their Holowatch, they can track these clues and use them to deduce the position of the threats you placed—and avoid them. On the other hand, you can also use this to your advantage and make clever bluffs. Also remember that darkness is your greatest friend. If the Hero manages to switch on the lights, you may be forced to reveal sectors to them, your creatures will become weaker, and the Hero’s attacks will be stronger!
Alone offers a fresh and ever-changing experience. Thanks to the different map sheets, you can create a different map to explore each time. In addition, all 8 Room tokens are placed at random, so every game is unique. As the Hero player, you can choose from different characters to play, each with their own special ability. When you play on the Evil side, instead, you can choose from 4 different Reaction decks: Fury, Speed, Terror, and Traps. These options will allow you to alter your play style and try new approaches to the game.
Finally, the included Scenario Book will put you through a long and exciting campaign of 12 scenarios, in which each player will play as one of the characters and live their story, from the initial shipwreck to one of their possible personal outcomes. The rules also allow you to easily generate your own custom scenarios!
To take a closer look at the rules of the game, you can download the 3 full rulebooks by clicking on this link or on the image below! You'll find the Intro Rulebook, that explains the setup procedure and basic game concepts, the Hero Compendium, that goes into details on all the game rules from the Hero player's perspective, and the Evil Compendium, that also explains all the game rules, but from the Evil players' perspective.

For 300€ the Cult Leader Pledge gets you the Kickstarter-exclusive, limited 3D Resin Map Tiles Kit, that allows you to enhance your games of Alone with a custom modular set of 3D resin Map Tiles... a place to let our miniatures really shine!
These custom resin pieces were only produced in small quantities for the first Kickstarter campaign, and won't be available at retail. We're giving you a final chance to grab one of the few remaining kits, there won't be another print run!
The miniatures shown are resins. All miniatures in Alone will be pre-assembled plastic.
If you're interested in purchasing any of the available optional buys, you just need to click the "Manage Your Pledge" button on the Alone Kickstarter page, and then add the amount of the items you'd like to get to your pledge. We'll sort out what your extra money is going towards after the campaign has closed and we've sent out invites to our pledge manager.
Hero Neoprene Playmat: add 14€ to your pledge
For 14€ this Optional Buy gives you a Hero board made of neoprene! While the actual gameplay experience will not change, playing with a neoprene playmat adds an additional premium feeling many players have grown to love.
Translucent Dice: add 9€ to your pledge
For 9€ this Optional Buy gives you two sets of engraved translucent dice: a blue set for the Hero, and a red set for the Evil players! These extra dice will come handy during the most intense fights, when many dice need to be rolled on both sides, and the translucent material adds a small luxury touch, too.
Custom Card Sleeves: add 30€ to your pledge
For 30€ this Optional Buy gives you a full set of thick, high-quality custom card sleeves, to protect all the cards included in the core box, the expansion boxes and any card that will be unlocked through our new stretch goals! At the start of the campaign, this already means more than 160 card sleeves.
The sleeves for the Reaction cards are semi-translucent, allowing you to put one of the creatures of the game into the otherwise empty corridors depicted on the standard card backs. While they won't add any further protection to your cards compared to standard sleeves, they increase the fear factor for the Hero... not to mention the fact that they look really cool!
Additional Acrylic Tokens Set: add 20€ to your pledge
For 20€, this Optional Buy gives you an additional set of acrylic tokens, including 20 Danger tokens, 20 Charge tokens, 5 Upgrade tokens and 5 Light tokens. If you decide to purchase this optional buy, together with the sets included for free with your pledge, you should have more than enough acrylic tokens for most games!
Big Box for Extra contents: add 10€ to your pledge
For 10€, this Optional Buy gives you a big box to store the contents of all the game expansions and all the gameplay-related optional buys (including the Hero Neoprene Playmat) in one compact, convenient package!
Art Book: add 19€ to your pledge
For 19€ this Optional Buy gives you a copy of the official Alone™ artbook, including many full page pieces of art, bits of trivia and lore about the game setting, creatures and characters, and more. A feast for the eyes! Containing all the amazing art created for the game by Steve Hamilton, this book is estimated to contain more than 50 full color pages.
KS-Exclusive expansion box: add 15€ to your pledge
For 15€ this Optional Buy gives you a copy of the KS-Exclusive expansion box. Most of you won't need it, but if you happen to be one of the gamers purchasing Alone last October at the last SPIEL fair in Essen, where this item was not available for purchase, you may want to purchase it in addition to a Survivor Pledge, and acquire the full Alone™ experience.
When our first campaign ended, we still had a few stretch goals up our sleeve that we were not able to unlock. A new Kickstarter campaign will give us the chance to fix that! Additionally, there were quite a few requests during our previous campaign regarding optional buys to further enhance the game experience. This kind of items is usually unfeasible to produce for the retail market, but with a small ad-hoc production and the help of Kickstarter funding we will be able to finally satisfy this popular backer request.
Finally, now that we are able to offer the game in Italian, German, Spanish and French in addition to English, a new Kickstarter campaign offers us an easy way to offer a language pack to the backers of our first campaign. This was another very popular request during the first campaign, and we're more than excited to be finally able to make it happen.
We've been overwhelmed by the positive reaction Alone received after its initial release following our first Kickstarter campaign. Click on the images below to see what the critics had to say about our game!
You may have also seen an Alone review by Tom Vasel on The Dice Tower. Unlike the reviews we linked above, it's not very flattering towards the game. We've known Tom for a long time and we have a deep respect for him and his work, but we don't agree with a few key points of his review. In particular, we feel that playing Alone with more than 1 Evil player greatly adds to the experience. A whole layer of the game is missing if you play 1v1: Evil players need to communicate with each other effectively without revealing precious information to the Hero, a challenging but rewarding experience that is central to their gameplay. It also helps to reduce the burden of managing all the "behind the screen" action for the Evil players, and to reduce unintentional mistakes on the Evil side. Finally, it adds to the Hero player's experience, too, as there's nothing like knowing 2-3 of your friends are doing their best to defeat you while you fight your way through an unknown environment, alone in the darkness, to create the feeling of overwhelming loneliness Alone is all about.
We will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes, based on the actual costs incurred to ship. We will collect this via our pledge manager, BackerKit, after the campaign ends. This way, we can be fair to all our backers as shipping is rarely one size fits all.
We will ship your rewards at our cost to our international hubs. Depending on where in the world you are, and depending on the number of backers of each region, we will ship from different logistics centers or from a single one; in both cases, all shipping will be handled through established fulfillment companies. You can find a list of rough estimates for shipping a standard game package here below (4kg volumetric weight). Note that if many stretch goals will be unlocked, the actual shipping cost may be higher. Also, they only apply to the Rookie Pledge. The shipping of the Retailer Pledge will require an extra cost for the additional game copies (we currently estimate an increase of 10-15€ over the shipping cost of a standard Rookie Pledge for most countries), while the Cult Leader Pledge will require an extra cost for the 3D Resin Map Tiles Kit.
Unfortunately, different import laws and customs from some specific countries make it impossible for us to ship games to them.
WE DO NOT SHIP TO: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.
Please note that while we will do our best to get you your rewards in a timely manner, you may not necessarily receive your rewards before the product makes it into distribution in your own country or before it's made available in conventions and other promotional events.

Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter campaign, but we have a much longer production experience. We are an established board game publisher, and we already brought to market several other products, like Potion Explosion and its expansions, Railroad Ink: Deep Blue edition and Railroad Ink: Blazing Red edition, Dragon Castle, Steam Park and its expansions, Dungeon Fighter and its expansions, Raise Your Goblets and Co-Mix.
Since the core Alone game has already been released, the development on the rules of the basic game is already complete; all the production tools and printing files for the contents of the first Alone campaign are finalized and ready to go. We will just need to set up new tools to produce the stretch goals that will be unlocked during this new campaign and the new optional buys. We already have the production quote and an agreement with our manufacturer. This should make the production process quick and straightforward. However, when you produce anything in China, unexpected events may always lead to delays with production, shipping or customs. We already took several steps that will help us minimize any of these, though.
To reduce shipping problems, we will use fulfillment companies, which is the best option when you have a large number of orders to ship in a short period of time.
Finally, we will always be transparent and openly communicating with backers. We will be updating you on a regular basis and we will be present during the whole process to answer any questions and read every comment.
The estimated delivery date of Alone™ is October 2019, but keep in mind this is only an estimate. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others. We'll do our best to minimize this as much as possible.
We have other projects in development, but we have a dedicated team working on Alone.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
