Making & Shipping

We have shipped thousands of Docks and are working to get the rest out as fast as possible. We know you are very eager to have them. Will be shipping about 500 per day through July to wrap this up.

We have been working through a bottleneck at bead blasting and anodizing - our vendor could not deliver at our planned and expected speed. We brought on another specialty metal finishing company, they have jumped on it very fast to match our finish quality and have already started delivering.

All the docks you see on these anodizing racks represent about 1/7th of what gets machined, anodized, assembled, packaged and shipped everyday.

As you can imagine, there is some friction in going from zero to mass production with parts that require this much work and precision - any machine marks and burrs have to be reworked or scrapped, anodizing that leaves a streak or the color is off has to be stripped and redone, off lasering has to be redone, circuit board assemblies that don't work are unbolted and swapped out, etc. We have 10x less fail QC than when we started production - it takes continual process improvements.

All cylinders - Our machine shops run over a mile in toolpaths every day of the week. Our anodizers are now hitting 500+ capacity per day in each of their three steps of glass bead blasting, electro-chemical micro polishing and anodizing. Lasering is turning around everything they receive in one day. When finished dock bodies arrive at our shop, we have 9 people dedicated to assembly, packaging and shipping - finished Docks are going out within 24 hours of their bodies arriving here.

Our custom compact USB chargers for the Dock+ versions look and work great, very glad we went to the extra effort to get them made and not go with 3rd party chargers.

If you need to contact us for an address change or anything else, please do so through and not through kickstarter messenger, so our team or people can get back to you. More informal updates are posted on our Facebook page.

3 days ago Casey mentioned that going forward you should get a shipping notification.
Also, they've said multiple times in the past that if the iPhone 5 has a different connector, they will make boards available so you can just swap the existing board for the new one and have everything work fine.
I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to read, honestly.

Looking forward to getting this on the day they announce the iPhone 5 with new dock connector! Haha...

Hope the production and shipping continues to go well, and really am looking forward to getting mine some day.

    5. John Passarella on July 13, 2012

Another day, no joy. Looking at the Facebook page, looks like they might not have started shipping Dock + units (what I'm expecting) until this past week. In which case, it could still be a while for me, if they are shipping them in order of pledge.

      @ Akbar: It's a trap!

    7. Alexis Garriott on July 12, 2012

Sorry for the double post :/

    8. Alexis Garriott on July 12, 2012

@Akbar, posting identical posts, just changing the names of the project leaders, about how unhappy you are with X project makes you look ridiculous. If you are SO unhappy with so many projects, maybe you shouldn't use Kickstarter.
Kickstarter isn't eBay or Amazon, it is a place where someone is usually making something that has never been made before, by a team that may not include a Foxconn manufacturing plant. I doubt that any of your lives are hinging on the delivery of your iPhone dock, so just calm down a bit here. I would like updates just as much as the next person, but honestly, I would rather they spend their time getting the rest of the docks out in July than posting another update that says "still sending out docks".

I wish I could just get my money back. The waiting without any information is insane.

After multiple failed attempts to make contact with Mr. Casey through private methods I have decided to go public and inform everyone that this is one of the biggest failures that any kickstarter project has ever gone through. Funded in FEBRUARY 2011, estimated delivery date of APRIL 2012, we are now in JULY and I still have not received my product. Not only have I not received my product but when I contacted Mr. Casey for a refund months ago he was rude, abrasive and ignorant of my request.
I intend to go to media outlets which covered this product in its early stages to inform them what a failure this has been, how badly managed this has all been and that Mr. Casey is a disgrace to this site.

      Hi there,

Just wondering if we get a shipping notification when the dock ships?

    15. Chan Thye Chuan on July 11, 2012

Would really appreciate it if you sent a notification email upon sending my item or something that lets me know when is this gonna arrive or rather that it is on the way. If you were producing pieces 500 a day since this post went up on June 28 then you should be close to finishing the last few batches. Really hope to hear some news of some sort.

    16. Nick Kirkman on July 11, 2012

Truth, Jason, truth. It is going to be well worth the wait in my opinion.

    17. jason carlin on July 11, 2012

Guys, many of us are waiting. The makers have stated clearly, on this very page, that it will take through the end of the month before all of the preorders have shipped. Things probably won't go any faster if everyone demands a personalized update.

@Jarrod - I contacted them at and they told me that they marked my account so that they would notify me when my Dock+ shipped. You may want to do the same thing so you don't waste your time.

    21. John Passarella on July 10, 2012

All we know is that they will be shipping them throughout July. So, until AUG 1, I guess we sit and wait and hope ours was not lost in the shuffle.

    22. Jarrod Merkel on July 9, 2012

I too am getting pretty frustrated with the delay here, whats worse is there is no information forthcoming about when we could be expecting our delivery. Today was the 2nd time I drove 30 minutes across the border in the hope of picking up my package and was disappointed. Delays, timing, volume challenges are all understandable ... leaving customers hanging is not. Please ship and notify that the items are shipped or tell us when we can expect them ?

Please, please, PLEASE ship to Europe (or at least Sweden) via DHL or some such. NOT USPS. The Swedish post office adds huge fees to custom clearance IN ADDITION to VAT. It is an absolute scandal.

    31. Carlos on July 5, 2012

It would be fine to have tracking numbers, but docks will still arrive in the same day with our without it... that's the truth. Can't wait to get my two docks... writing from Spain!

    32. Andrew Westle on July 5, 2012

Others have posted that it has shipped via USPS

    33. Fares Fayad on July 5, 2012

      @ John Reinhold:

Thanks for the reply. One more question if you don't mind: Was it shipped via USPS or a courier company the likes of DHL, Fedex etc...?

I'm slightly concerned with the lack of communication from their side regarding these details specially for us international backers.

    34. Justin Davies on July 5, 2012

      @Dustin Bartley:

I had the same exact problem I contacted elevation labs and they said they would send me a replacement board and i still have not received it. I contacted the woman i exchanged emails with to see if it had been sent and have yet to hear back from her. I am pretty annoyed at this point.

    37. Dustin Bartley on July 5, 2012

My dock stopped charging my phone after using it for about 3 days. I plugged it into a number of different outlets - same problem. I swapped out the longer USB cable for the shorter one - same problem. I will contact Elevation Labs directly but I was curious if anyone else had this issue.

    38. Fares Fayad on July 5, 2012

People who have gotten their docks already, have you received some tracking email prior to that? I find myself having to ask this question here seeing as the Elevation team doesn't bother responding...

Got two docks today. Neither works with an Apple Bumper. The plastic base of the dock connector on the Elevation Dock is slightly too large to fit into the recess in the Apple Bumper. I've emailed Elevation to see what they want to do about it.

I received my 4 docks today. They are awesome!

Cord complaints: Seriously? People are complaining about swapping the short cord for the other included longer cord? It takes like 20 seconds... How spoiled are we in this damn country?

I just hope the iPhone 5 dock connector doesn't screw everything up....

All in all we are very satisfied with them and happy we bought them.

Jim Dozier on June 29, 2012

Brent, your experience was the same as mine. It took a minute with the included Allen wrench to undo the screws and replace the short cord, for desktop syncing, with the long cord for plugging into a charger on the floor. The long cord is probably 4 feet long.

I'd love to thoroughly read every email that comes in but that ain't happening. Either way, having to take a base plate off and install another cable, which was supposed to come with the unit and didn't, just so you can charge a phone seems silly to me. The quality problems not withstanding.

    47. Arnold A Sitorus on June 29, 2012

If only people read the updates before this one..
There is a 'history' of this project from funding until shipping and in between.
There is a background story of why and how the dock's cable become the way it is now.
      Just read the updates.

      Brent on June 29, 2012

Mine came with two cords in the packaging - a long one and short one. You can just swap them out if you need it to reach farther (like down to an outlet). I also wanted to put it on my nightstand and it took me about a minute or so to swap them out.

The cord is a normal full size USB one one end and a micro USB (I think) on the other. Same one my bluetooth headset uses. They have them on monoprice for a buck or two if you need a really long one. I think the included one is 3 or 4 feet long.

    49. Antonio on June 29, 2012

The cable length + connection seem to be an issue... I just hope that the provide ongoing support for the the dock going forward given the high-end price, the new iPhone 5 connector, and the issues being raised in KickStarter.
