Have a question?
iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 + . Which of both would fit into the Elevation Dock?
May by only the iPhone 6, or none?
Who has checked the case size of iPhone 6 regarding the Elevation Dock?
When do I get my elevation Dock?
Jeff -- That's great!
Dave - A quarter or half turn to tighten should solve that. If not, send us an email. Thx.
Hey Casey... I have a couple of those first-generation Lightning adapters, the cords slip constantly. What are my upgrade options to a new generation?
Great Product! I use mine everyday at my desk. The nano pad is the perfect solution for simple one handed removal from the dock. No complaints what-so-ever. Highly recommended.
Brett -- Sure, stop on by. Give a heads up to email@example.com before you do to make sure we're here. Thx.
Anthony - We guarantee the Lightning adapters to hold Apple's cords as if they were molded in. You can return it at our expense if it doesn't work for you.
Tom -- Your Lightning cord should not budge in the dock, we'd happily replace it if it did. I would try tightening it first. Your adapter is the first design we made back in 2012 and they have gone through 2 design iterations since then - the current adapter is adjustable, has a ledge for the cord to sit on vertically, and dual symmetric bolts to tighten it very hard and safely.
@tomcoggia, thank you very much for the factual and well written comment regarding upgrading the original elevation dock to one with a lightning connector. I have two that have been sitting empty since we got our iphone 5s. I came here to the comments first to see what I could learn. I'm glad you decided to share your factual experience with the rest of us. As crazy as it sounds, the elevation docks are essentially non-recyclable from a original purchasers perspective.
Hi - I live in Portland and was one of the very early backers to the original Elevation Dock, I now have an iPhone 5S and would like to use it with the (older version) Elevation Dock. What are my options ? Can I just simply drive over to the Elevation headquarters and get the proper cable I need for using the dock with my iPhone 5S ? - Of course I expect to pay for what ever I need to upgrade it so that it is functional. Please call my work number 503.601.2099 or my work email firstname.lastname@example.org
I have to add my disappointment in the lightning adapter "solution."
After threading my Apple lightning cable into the adapter plate (an additional cost, on top of the original dock), and *cramming* the cable into the dock in order to screw on the base plate (which doesn't support audio out - another additional cost no longer useful), then using the nanopad (another additional cost) to stick it to my desk so it doesn't act like every other dock you used to make fun of (note: if you superglue *any* dock to your desk, it will stay put when you lift your phone out of it)...
I have a block of aluminum that, basically, holds my lighting plug in a vertical position so I can balance my iphone 5s on it like a plate spinning on a stick in the circus. It wobbles side-to-side, front-to-back. The slightest touch to use the phone makes it jiggle around because the dock provides absolutely no support in any direction (but down). And worst of all, when I pull the phone out of the dock, 1/2 the time it pulls the lighting plug out of the dock with it.
I feel for you guys...you took a bit longer than expected to ship, and in the meantime Apple threw you a curveball and changed the port on the iPhone.
But rather than bilking your original backers for more money with half-baked "solutions" that don't really work, just accept that you have to start over. I'm not mad that I spent money on the dock and then Apple turned it into a non-functional aluminum desk sculpture. But I am mad that I spent more money on hacks to try and make it work and the result is exactly that: a total hack job.
Also, I didn't realize that the adapter only worked with Apple's lightning cable (or one shaped exactly like it - your site says it works with Apple's lightning cable...but it doesn't say it *only* works with Apple's lightning cable), so I bought a short black cable to replace the one that the dock shipped with - and that cable doesn't work. More money wasted.
I hate to say this...but if you have an original dock, and have recently upgraded to a newer iPhone, DO NOT waste any more money with Elevation's fixes to try and make it work. Cut your losses and move on. I'm not sure how well new docks work (or even the newer adapters)...but the original adapters for the original dock are utterly silly and useless. When (and if) you guys ever figure out how to make a dock that not only looks good but actually functions well, you should cut your original backers a deep, deep discount on it.
$79 original dock
$29 adapter and nanopad
$18 lightning cable
Got the NanoPad. It works great. Like, really great. Like, so great, I am unsure how to "unstick" it after applying without fear of damaging the pad or the surface it is stuck to. Any tips on safely detaching it from a surface?
Don't want your sticky pad, tired of the excuses. Comments stand. Not a penny more. I'm done.
Martin - Our NanoPads work better than a low-friction Lightning connector, better than even our original custom 30pin connectors. When engineering for the the best performance, the force down (gravity) should be at least 2x the force up (connector friction). Thats about what it is with our 30pin. With NanoPad and Lightning, the force difference can be 5-20x greater depending on how smooth the surface is - so your dock will not budge. We have prototype low-friction Lightning connectors if you really want one - they don't work as well as the one Apple engineered like we said in the update.
Its sad how this great project failed to deliver on one of its biggest promises. Bought mine (4) back when I had my iPhone 4, worked like a dream. The iPhone 5 came out with the new Lightening adapter. Elevation Dock said no problem we will provide a temp connector bracket so you can use your Lightening connector until we make a zero force iPhone connector, then silence...crickets...broken promises...no communication....
Now they have a sticky pad for the bottom, and that is NOT the connector that they promised they would create for a permanent solution. Their design with the swappable connector was supposed to prevent obsoleteness, but nope didn't happen. I now have 4 half assed docks and no promised connector.
Other Kickstarter dock projects have. I have a dock with a zero force connector that shipped that way and delivered a hell of a lot faster than Elevation Dock. Until you make good on your promise for the zero force iPhone connector, I'm done spending another cent on any product/project you run.
Any Black Friday deals going on this week? I need to order some iPhone5 adapters now that my phone has been upgraded!
Other companies are shipping Apple-certified lightning devices now. When can we expect to have a real iPhone 5/5s solution?
Benny - Yours shipped last year. Send a note to email@example.com. Thx.
Did not receive the dock. Please an updaten.
Jeffrey - Your Dock was delievered on 8/17/12. Send us a note, firstname.lastname@example.org, if there was a problem.
Where are my three docks!?
Dimitriy - Yours shipped back in October. Nicole is sending you an email about it now. Thx
I didn't receive my dock until now. What is going on? How can I track it？
Rob - Thats great. A lot in store for the future.
Tobias - Thats not good, send a note to email@example.com and we can get you parts to swap.
So the power adaptor exploded in my face when I was using the lightning adaptor kit. Luckily nothing happened to me or my phone. The lightning cable now looks burned and I don't think I should use it or the docks anymore.
Just wanted to chime in and say I am still very happy with my ElevationDock. Since i switched to the iPhone 5, i lost the easy-of-removal, but the dock still looks so damn nice compared to everything else.
I wonder if there is an easy way to Dremel the Lightning connector down just a hair to get reclaim some of the easy-to-remove functionality of the dock as originally intended.
Also, if Apple ever relaxes their guidelines for Lightning based connectors and devices, will ElevationLabs release updated Lighting inserts?
I did received mine!!!! it's wonderful, I only missed the audio part :( - not an ElevationsLab issue.
Daniel - Thats really great to hear!
Kenny - Yours shipped 8/2/12. Best/fastest way to contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Arnold - We'll do that next update, its around 45,000lbs of aluminum extruded here in Portland.
I didn't receive my dock too. What is going on? How can I track it？ it's been a long time.
Still my favorite project backed, and I've backed some cool things. Love the future proofing with a swappable connection. The only problem is I find my phone lying face down on the nightstand in front of the dock many mornings... and my girlfriend's phone on the dock!!! Looks like I know what someone's getting for her birthday! ;) Thanks Casey.
So, who is the winner of the "guess how much will the aluminum be used?"
Bob - Right on, thats great!
James - Thats cool.
Claissa - We've tried both your email adresses and haven't heard back, please send a note to email@example.com. Yours shipped back on 9/28/12.
Ricardo - A second dock was shipped to you in Columbia on 1/4/13. We have had some other problems shipping to your country too. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
I did not receive my dock yet... what to do?
On January 13 I posted here a comment saying that I didn't receive my dock. You guys said that you'd email me about that but I haven't received anything... Can you guys please help me solving this issue?
Just a note of thanks...I now own three of these - one from the KS campaign and two from the recent "seconds" sale. Two are for my 4S - one at home, one at work. The third is for my wife's 5 at home. We are very happy with the docks and get lots of compliments on them. Great work.
Just to reiterate, Willis's fix works great and it's really easy.
I couldn't find my Dremel tool so I just used a file to shave both sides of the lightning connector until the notch on both side was gone and now my 2 Elevation Docks work just like they did with the iPhone 4. I'm not sure if Casey can endorse this fix or not but I don't fault him at all for problems with the new connectors. I backed his project to work with the iPhone 4 (which it did) and I thank him for coming up with a solution to make it work with the iPhone 5 before Apple made the new connectors available to him.
Thanks for the fix Willis!!! It works great!
Hey.... I still didn't' received my dock... What should i do??
For those with iPhone 5: I got the new lightning attachment from Casey website and I got a second cable.
What I did with the cable connection to be able to remove the iPhone with ONE hand is:
I shaved the side of the connection in the cable with my Dremel Rotary tool like this one http://amzn.to/Wivdh7 just enough so the little hooks of the iPhone 5 don't have a wedge to hold to it. And thats all. It Works beautifully. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response.
However, this was not noted when buying the connector. And even though you're working on it, it doesn't solve the issue of me paying $120 total for something that I can't really use. Having raised $1.4 mil, do you think you can spare a refund for the device and iphone 5 connector ($100 total) that I bought from you? I'll eat the $20 for the extra iphone cable I had to buy that you guys didn't supply me with.
Of course, if you had a solution ready and I had to wait a week or 2 or even a month, I would be fine with that, but it doesn't sound like this one is going to be solved anytime soon.
Let me know
Onepercent - Not sure on that, I would check the USB connection inside the dock to make sure its fully seated. If it persists, send a note to email@example.com
Lachlan - We will email you today. And in general, always email us instead of going through the kickstarter messenger.
Mike, Noah - Yes, Apple's new cord is not low-friction like our custom 30pin. That is something we are working on.
Detlef - Right on.
I emailed you guys with no response. I bought the dock for the iPhone 4S. It took a VERY time to come in and being an apple enthusiast, I purchased the iPhone 5 and barely was able to enjoy the dock for the 4s. I had to then wait a long time and not have a dock. Then, instead of sending me the part for free, i had to buy your connector and a $20 cable from apple only to find out that it didn't work properly anymore. The dock sticks like the tester demo docks in your video display and that is super annoying since I paid $85+$15+$20+s/h to prevent that issue in the first place lol
Can someone please make me a happy customer?
I also haven't received my Elevation dock. I sent a message in via Kickstarter's "Ask a question" a week ago, but received no response.
I've been having some trouble with my Elevation Dock.
My dock is directly connected to my iMac through USB, and when I dock my iPhone while the iMac is not asleep, it doesn't register with the iMac and is neither being charged nor able to be synced with iTunes. However, when the iMac is asleep and I dock the iPhone, it will wake up the iMac, begin to charge, and then return the iMac to sleep.
Please help me troubleshoot this. By the way, I'm using the old 30-pin connector with an iPhone 4S on a mid-2011 iMac with OS 10.8.2.
An elevation dock for the iPad (mini) would be nice. I'm happy with mine still using a 4S.
Same concern as Noah. I installed the iPhone 5 lightning connector kit the other day and the friction is so high on the connector that the entire dock lifts up. So the elevation dock is now like all the docks the original KS video ridiculed!
Do I need to do anything to make my iPhone 5 come up out of the dock with one hand? When I try to lift it up like the Video shows, the entire dock is lifted up off my desk. I really thought this dock would be different, but it's just as hard to remove as every other dock I've used in the past. Anyhoo...
Clarissa - Thats not good. We will email you today. Thx -Lisa
I live in Brazil and so far I haven't received my dock. Casey, can you get in touch with me to solve the problem?
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Months ago when I received my iPhone 5, I reluctantly accepted that I had purchased an $80+ paperweight. A moment ago I thought, "Surely, they have to have an elegant solution for the backers who helped raise nearly $1.5 million"... I thought wrong.
I haven't asked for a refund and will likely never do so, but I am seriously disappointed with how this situation has been handled.
