      Casey,

      Thanks for the response.

However, this was not noted when buying the connector. And even though you're working on it, it doesn't solve the issue of me paying $120 total for something that I can't really use. Having raised $1.4 mil, do you think you can spare a refund for the device and iphone 5 connector ($100 total) that I bought from you? I'll eat the $20 for the extra iphone cable I had to buy that you guys didn't supply me with.

Of course, if you had a solution ready and I had to wait a week or 2 or even a month, I would be fine with that, but it doesn't sound like this one is going to be solved anytime soon.

      Let me know

Onepercent - Not sure on that, I would check the USB connection inside the dock to make sure its fully seated. If it persists, send a note to hello@elevationlab.com
Lachlan - We will email you today. And in general, always email us instead of going through the kickstarter messenger.
Mike, Noah - Yes, Apple's new cord is not low-friction like our custom 30pin. That is something we are working on.
      Detlef - Right on.

      Casey,

I emailed you guys with no response. I bought the dock for the iPhone 4S. It took a VERY time to come in and being an apple enthusiast, I purchased the iPhone 5 and barely was able to enjoy the dock for the 4s. I had to then wait a long time and not have a dock. Then, instead of sending me the part for free, i had to buy your connector and a $20 cable from apple only to find out that it didn't work properly anymore. The dock sticks like the tester demo docks in your video display and that is super annoying since I paid $85+$15+$20+s/h to prevent that issue in the first place lol

Can someone please make me a happy customer?

      Thank you.

      Hi there,
I also haven't received my Elevation dock. I sent a message in via Kickstarter's "Ask a question" a week ago, but received no response.

      Hi Casey,

I've been having some trouble with my Elevation Dock.

My dock is directly connected to my iMac through USB, and when I dock my iPhone while the iMac is not asleep, it doesn't register with the iMac and is neither being charged nor able to be synced with iTunes. However, when the iMac is asleep and I dock the iPhone, it will wake up the iMac, begin to charge, and then return the iMac to sleep.

Please help me troubleshoot this. By the way, I'm using the old 30-pin connector with an iPhone 4S on a mid-2011 iMac with OS 10.8.2.

An elevation dock for the iPad (mini) would be nice. I'm happy with mine still using a 4S.

Same concern as Noah. I installed the iPhone 5 lightning connector kit the other day and the friction is so high on the connector that the entire dock lifts up. So the elevation dock is now like all the docks the original KS video ridiculed!

    8. Noah on

Do I need to do anything to make my iPhone 5 come up out of the dock with one hand? When I try to lift it up like the Video shows, the entire dock is lifted up off my desk. I really thought this dock would be different, but it's just as hard to remove as every other dock I've used in the past. Anyhoo...

Months ago when I received my iPhone 5, I reluctantly accepted that I had purchased an $80+ paperweight. A moment ago I thought, "Surely, they have to have an elegant solution for the backers who helped raise nearly $1.5 million"... I thought wrong.

I haven't asked for a refund and will likely never do so, but I am seriously disappointed with how this situation has been handled.

@Casey, after looking closely at the audio connector. It seems that the circuit board was screwed in an angle. It's flushed on the audio connector side and at the 30 pin connector. There is about a 2-3mm gap. There should have been a gap between the dock and the circuit board on the audio side. So the screw behind the audio connector, pushed/ forced the audio connector against the dock opening. I don't have an allen wrench small enough to fix this. Help please.

Just wondering, if I get one of those Lightning to 30-pin Adapters, could I use my new iPad4 with the Dock?

i have a dock+, and received my lightning adaptor yesterday. i like the build of the whole dock, but giving up audio out with the adaptor is a disappointment. i bought the + for the audio out, so not having it makes the adaptor useless. this HAD so much potential, but now am left with a paperweight.

@Casey, So I opened my dock to change out the cable and the audio connector popped out. Like it was just sitting there all this time. I think it was soldered poorly. Now it doesn't work that well anymore. What to do?

Is it not possible to make the iPhone 5 adapter to be designed with a higher position to accomodate the audio cable re-route to the metal hole left by 30 pin connector which is wider than the Lighting connector?

Okay, I understand that Casey (and yes, I feel mildly foolish) ... How about doing a new dock then that has this functionality? You may even persuade me to buy one, 'though at the moment I'm likely to buy the inferior looking Belkin so I have the functionality I want and had with my 4S and the Dock+ ... I have the Dock+ and my iPhone 5 arrives today. I won't be ordering the Lightning adapter. I'm wondering why something like he Belkin solution hasn't been implemented: http://www.belkin.com/us///F8J057/p/P-F8J057 - if I have to use two hands to take the iPhone 5 out of the dock anyway, why not just implement the 3.5mm jack as part of the outing adapter kit - at least we'd retain audio out, even if it's not line level. I'm disappointed - I'll be buying he Belkin dock for $29.99 to replace the Elevation Dock+ which becomes an $85 paper weight.

I, sadly, have to agree with the assessment of the lightning adapter. The main reason for such an amazingly high pledge level was the video that illustrated the one handed removal of the phone from the dock. With the lightning adapter in place, it does require two hands every time.

I do hope that an Elevation dock with a low friction lightning adapter will be made available and more importantly a retrofit for all original Elevation docks. I understand the challenges, given all the changes. I would just urge you to keep your customers and backers updated on that progress in a timely fashion and hopefully be able to deliver that retrofit.

I got my adapter today and realized as a backer with the Dock+, I pretty much am screwed out of $20. Not only have I lost the line out feature, but I had to pay $20 for the adapter... I ended up paying $10 more than retail. Feels good to be a kickstarter....

Received my adapter today, it is snug and with audio but glad to have my dock again. I was searching and saw this, looks similar to the Elevation in ways. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ocdesk/iphone-dock-for-imac-and-apple-displays-the-ocdock…

    32. Cody Russell on

If you end up releasing a new Lightning adapter that has the actual plug built-in and supports an audio port, I'd be willing to buy that unless it's prohibitively expensive. If you do release one of those please consider giving us original backers a break on the price. :)

      @Casey Hopkins:

Just received my lightning adapter today, thanks very much! It's fantastic. I had been using one of these Makerbot-printed adapters, but it didn't have screws to fix it in place the way yours does and so when I pulled the iPhone out of the dock it would just pull the Lightning cable through. Using yours that doesn't seem to be happening at all, it feels really secure now.

      Thanks!

OK, so how do I go about raising the fact that it is 12 months since I backed this project, and I still have no dock. I did add, and pay for, a custom logo, but it seems that everyone but me has their dock and is happy or is complaining about the lightning stuff - believe me, I'd love to be in possession of the dock so I could think about upgrading. I'm in the UK. How do I find out where my dock is?

    36. Amir Aziminia on

I have sent several emails to both "info@elevationlab.com" & "hello@elevationlab.com" requesting CANCELLATION of my lightning adapter order. I have decided NOT to upgrade to the iphone 5 so i no longer need the adapter. My order status is currently "not yet fulfilled" so there shouldn't be an issue. PLEASE CANCEL MY ORDER AND REFUND MY CARD. My order number is 36691. Thank you.

Adam -- Yes, that Belkin car cord is now available, apologize, didn't see it on Amazon. The Griffen looks still on pre-order. These are the very first of hundreds of products in Apple's MFi que. Designers from other companies I've talked to have said their wares won't be approved by Apple until after the end of the year and only then are the connectors supplied to them for production.

    38. Adam Selby on

@Casey "There is not even a single licensed 3rd party Lightning accessory available on the market yet" - That is a straight-up lie. Belkin and Griffin are two major companies and they both announced or released Lightning products last month. I can forgive delays in the project, and I can even understand the problem of making a low-friction connector and pushing out this adapter as a stop-gap measure. But in no way is it okay to *lie* to your customers. Elevation Labs was disingenuous about the fit of the cable, and how hard it now is to remove the phone from the dock with the adapter. And now, you're over here lying about what other companies are doing, in a half-hearted attempt to make yourselves look better. Own up to it, you already started by saying it'll be hard to make a custom adapter. You could do it, but you guys just chose the easy route. Belkin had a Lightning cable available a month ago. Wasting time on an adapter instead of a low-friction cable is ridiculous.

I proudly supported this project, and defended it when it had delays. It isn't your fault that the dock connector changed, and anyone who bitches about how their new iPhone 5 needs to realize they were not forced to back the project, nor replace their phone. But it is ElevationLab's fault that the delays were handled poorly, and this adapter debacle isn't being handled any better. You've lost me as a supporter and customer because of the lack of transparency, the deceptive marketing surrounding it, and the lies about the reasons for the poor excuse that is the adapter.

I FINALLY received my Lightning Adapter yesterday 4th December, after ordering it on the 4th of November. I can only assume that EL manufactures this component to individual orders - rather akin to ordering a Whopper from Burger King - or USPS is the slowest mail system in the developed world. That said, I'm glad to have the adapter in my possession now, should I one day be compelled enough to purchase the iPhone-5.

A question for Elevation Lab Staff: Would it be beyond you folks to manufacture a silicone backing pad for the dock that is FLUSH with the aluminium cavity? I know I can simply remove the pad to accommodate iOS devices with 'larger' protective cases (although I wouldn't say my Rugged CaseMate for 3GS is necessarily large). The dock would nevertheless look better if a flush-fitting blanking-plug were able to be fitted into what, without the backing pad, looks like an empty tooth-hole.

I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on this matter. Cheers in advance.

I just retrofitted the Lighting adapter into my dock and noticed a 2/16” gap from the rear of the phone (case-less) to the rubber bumper on the dock. Is this normal? Has anybody else encountered this gap? I know the iPhone 5 is thinner, so just wanted to know if this result is typical or did I install the adapter improperly?

      Thanks in advance,
      Marlon

    42. Casey Hopkins + ElevationLab 2-time creator on

      Scott - Right on.
Trevor - Good to hear. We actually set the adapter 1 degree back further than the 30pin connector with the phone being taller.
George - That's great. Audio out is something we are working on. The new connector is all digital, not a pass-through like the previous connector so it is not simple to make.
Jason - Apple doesn't offer low-friction Lightning connectors and we don't advertise them being the same as our custom low-friction 30pin adapters. There is not even a single licensed 3rd party Lightning accessory available on the market yet and I don't know a single other company even making their existing products upgradeable. Like our custom 30pin connector, which we made from scratch without Apple and core to our Kickstarter project, its a big technical challenge to create, probably more than a lot of folks realize - and even more now with Apple's proprietary electronics packs inside the cord. But it is something we are working on. We want you to be happy, hope you understand the position we are in, and you can get a refund for the adapter if your not, no problem.

    43. Jason on

This company conned us! I will admit original dock for iphone 4 and below worked as said and was great. but then when they realized their product would soon become a paperweight, they scrambled and came up with the adapter which simply doesnt work!!! THE BEAUTY OF YOUR ORIGINAL DOCK WAS BEING ABLE TO USE ONE HAND!!! That isnt possible now. Its a major struggle to get it out at all! Why did you lie and try to sell us an inferior substitute! Please people return your adapters if they dont work as theyre advertised and supposed to like the original product! And as far as them saying its better if you sand down the wire end, are you crazy!! Thats your job!! Maybe you should have sold us it with the wire sanded down yourselves!!!

Finally got my adaptor today all fitted and well . Gutted about the dock + not compatible with the new cable but at least the docks not a paper weight now. It's a great dock although I think the adaptor could of had a slight more of an angle as it pretty much sits upright in the dock. It's been close to a year now since I first seen this on kickstarter .its certainly been a journey and probably the most ill ever pay for an accessory for my phone again :-) turned out to be an expensive piece of kit 85+ 20 shipping + 21 customs + 22 for adapter = 148. Great dock but cannot honestly say its been worth it . Credit to casey though for the challenges he as faced ,all the best

Just wanted to say thanks for delivering an adaptor so quickly. Once inserted, it is easy to forget what a nice piece of machining is making it possible :) I like the red contrast. It is too bad the normal lightning adapter isn't as smooth a detach as your original, but perhaps you can convince apple to license your design for a frictionless adapter "perfect for docks" rather than perfect for dangling on your desk :)

Love the dock - sorry so many comments are negative, I think its a beautiful product worthy of my desk and my iphone.

    48. Mike Wohlrab on

I just want to add in that I have received the Lightning Connector Adapter from EL and it is working just fine. It is a little tight to pull the phone off the connector, and it CANNOT be done frictionless with one hand and minimal work unless you grind off the side metal on the Lightning Cable which helps keep the cable secure into the phone. With time and practice you can get the phone out with one hand without grinding down the cable. Version 2 of this Lightning Connector Adapter from EL I'm sure will be MUCH better as I'm sure EL will get a cable / connection that is friction free. Not much EL can do in the mean time. It is NOT EL's fault for Apple changing up the cable and putting in stricter rules that prevent manufacturers from creating a better solution. Thanks ElevationLab!
