Unlike other hot sauces, we grow what we make.
Yeah, we're a little crazy like that. In fact, this whole hot sauce business started last year because, before we left for our Epic Amtrak Homesweet Homegrown Book tour, we planted 100+ hot pepper plants, and had to figure out what to do with them all! Homesweet Homegrown Hot Sauce was born, and we can't wait to share it with the world.
We've spent all last year perfecting our three flavors, and they were such a hit, we want to expand and grow even more peppers this year. Here's where you guys come in.
What would we do with the dough?
This year, we are selling bottles of Homesweet Homegrown Hot Sauce on Kickstarter to raise funds to expand our field and grow 250+ hot pepper plants, from jalapenos to ghost peppers, and more than 300 heads of heirloom garlic! The initial $850 we raise will cover the costs of buying and planting our peppers and garlic, along with the costs of organic mulches.
Our ultimate dream would be to raise enough funds to purchase a little plot of land, just for Homesweet Homegrown Hot Sauces, and invite you all to come down, pick peppers and check it out. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Our three signature flavors come in 5 oz bottles:
Orange Crush: This tangy sauce has the spicy kick of orange habaneros, mellowed out by carrots and citrus undertones. Really good on everything from pizza and burritos to eggs. We carry a bottle at all times.
Punch Drunk: This favorite among pepper heads packs a punch of ghost peppers (one of the hottest peppers in the world), homegrown smoked garlic, guiness stoudt, and raw cacao. Inspired by mole, this sauce is no joke, and will soon have you addicted to all things ghost pepper, the pain is that good!
Aramingo: A decieivingly innocent blend of mango and pineapple, this habanero-based sauce has a heat that sneaks up on you, with the delicate dichotomy of sweet and spicy. Good on burritos, veggies, tofu, eggs, seafood, and rice dishes.
We also have a few new flavors in the works----one of our rewards includes the chance to name our new jalapeno line of sauce, launching this fall!
Shipping Note to International Backers: Due to the extra packaging needed to ship our glass-bottle hot sauces around the globe, we needed to adjust our shipping rates to make these priority international. Please see special international rewards and rates just for you!
All of our peppers are grown organically and pesticide-free in Kutztown, PA. Instead of chemicals, we use natural methods like paper and straw to mulch our plants.

This stuff has gotten rave reviews, and is quite a treat. We blend our own smoke dried habanero peppers with sea salt and our homegrown heirloom garlic. Chia: The Superfood Ingredient
Most hot sauces use gums, and other unnatural preservatives and colors. We are the first hot pepper sauce to use superfood Chia seeds as an all natural thickener. And, forget yellow #5, our pepper sauces have no weird chemicals, additives or colors.

Risks and challenges
Like all farming, there's always a risk of crop failure, but since we live in the perfect climate for growing peppers, we are pretty positive that this will be a banner pepper year, just like the last 10+ years have been. We can all of our sauces, and use bottles that create airtight seals, so the shelf life is 2 years+. Once opened, we recommend storing your hot sauce in the fridge and consuming within a year for best flavor.
Yes----every ingredient we grow and use is completely vegan, vegetarian and kosher, so no worries there!
Chia seeds are a total superfood (you can read about them here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/24/business/chia-seeds-gain-popularity-for-nutritional-benefits.html…) and we are happy to be the first hot sauce to use the nutritional powerhouses as a natural thickener and preservative.
We create all of our sauces in a commercial kitchen, and have our Food Processing license and insurance. So we are legit;)
Yes, and we guarantee it. For our first kickstarter, the Homesweet Homegrown Amtrak Book Tour, we reached nearly 350% of goal, and had to order, create, assemble, address, and ship orders all over the globe in just 5 weeks to meet our original deadline. Which was no small feat, considering we also had to create and make more than 2600 little heirloom/non-gmo seed packets, but we did it! We are confident we will meet this timeline as well, and have already been planning ways to guarantee this. So, no worries, you will get your sauce, and on time! We have been making hot sauce and have already perfected our recipes, and have our bottles, labels and shipping methods ready to go. Our crew is ready to grow, harvest, bottle, and get these sauces out to you all! And, we can't wait!
Yes, and yes! We will be sharing updates and sending pics of our peppers at all stages, from planting and growing to picking and bottling. Stay tuned;)
Our Orange Crush and Aramingo sauces are gluten free, but Punch Drunk has a bit of guinness in it, so it is not gluten free.

ORANGE CRUSH: carrots, organic onions, habaneros*, organic orange juice, garlic*, vinegar, lime juice, cane sugar, chia, spices. ARAMINGO: pineapple juice, mango juice, onions, carrots, lemondrop habanero peppers*, vinegar, lime juice, garlic*, cane sugar, chia, and spices. PUNCH DRUNK: onions, carrots, ghost peppers*, cacao powder, guinness stoudt, smoked garlic*, lime juice, cane sugar, chia, and spices.
Note: Since we are not technically USDA certified organic, we cannot put organic on our label, but all ingredients are pesticide- and chemical-free. The starred ingredients (*) are also homegrown by us!
