About

We are a 501(c)3 Not-For-Profit Organization.

This Kickstarter will fund the designing and building of our first shipping container home, similar to the orange container home above, and will be the framework for all future container homes that will be built here in the states. This container home will be built near the beach in Florida and will be used as a vacation rental (through AirBnb, VRBO, Flipkey, etc).  That means anyone will be able to rent this container home once it is completed.  If you back this project, we'll let you stay in it for free!  Take a vacation and back a good cause.  The home will be fully furnished and will include all amenities, as well as two bedrooms.

We have created a model that is similar to TOM'S Shoes and The Well Coffeehouse.  Here is our business model; it's simple:

 1. Stay in our container homes.  Book your stay!  Your money goes to cover expenses and to supplement building costs in impoverished communities, starting in Haiti.

2. Live in a container home.  We will build you your own container home.  All profits go to supplementing building costs in impoverished communities.

Back Story

Founded by brothers Luke and Andy Seavers, Home For The Nations is a Non-Profit organization that provides low cost housing to communities in impoverished nations by repurposing shipping containers and turning them into durable, long lasting, and earthquake-proof homes known as container homes.  On August 17th, 2015, Luke moved his family to the Port-Au-Prince region of Haiti to begin laying the ground work for our future projects.

How does Home For The Nations generate revenue to lower building costs in impoverished nations?

Home For The Nations builds small, 250 to 1,000 square foot shipping container homes in the United States. These homes are then rented or sold at a premium price to supplement the cost of building homes in Haiti. All profits from these homes are used to hire Haitian workers, source building materials in Haiti, and help grow Haiti’s economy.  Anything we can source in Haiti, we will.  This campaign is to raise the necessary money to design and build the first home container home that we are building in the United States, as well as have designs for all future container homes.  Want to stay in this home?  Back our campaign and get a free stay.

Why Shipping Containers?

Shipping containers are created to withstand the harsh conditions of the open sea.  They are earthquake proof, a feature that is highly important to the Haitian people following the devastating earthquake in 2010. The cost to heat or cool a container can be less than a normal house if insulated.  While building materials like lumber are very expensive and often limited in Haiti, used shipping containers are affordable and can be conveniently purchased in Haitian ports for around $3,500.

How Can I Help?

Back this campaign. The $100,000 raised will be used to work with architects to design the first affordable shipping container home in Haiti, as well as design and actually build the first small property here in the U.S in a coastal Florida tourist location such as Panama City or Pensacola. Different backing amounts will earn a person different rewards, including free nights in this Florida based shipping container home once completed. Please help us raise the necessary funding to get this business off the ground.  We can't do it without you!

Risks and challenges

The reason that we are running this campaign is to avoid as many risks and challenges as possible when we begin work in Haiti. If we were to first build a container home in Haiti without experience under our belt, there is a much higher chance of running into costly mistakes. We believe that by building our first container home in the states, we will not only be able to supplement the cost of building in Haiti, but will also gain the necessary knowledge required to build an affordable home in Haiti.

Some of the initial challenges will involve zoning restrictions here in the states. This is a future challenge as we decide which plot of land to purchase. Before any land is purchased, we will approach the zoning committees in Panama City and Pensacola. Fortunately, houses in beach towns are typically not held to the same zoning restrictions that one might find in a residential neighborhood.

We are confident that we will overcome all challenges we face. If you have more questions, please email Andy at Andy@homeforthenations.org.
