About this project
Emerald City Dress by Home Fashion Fabrics
I am an experienced textile designer specializing in exclusive, hand-drawn designs. Your pledge will help me launch a new line of dresses that use only 100% certified organic interlock, printed in the US.
Emerald City Collection
The collection of prints used for this dress is entitled, Emerald City. It is my sixth collection printed with water-based inks on 100% certified organic interlock.
Each fabric is named from inspirational themes from the Wizard of Oz: Courage, Magic, Goodness, Heritage, Ocean, and Possibilty.
The Emerald City, some thought, stood for a place where all things were possible.
The strapless style of the Dress is same front and back, and can be pulled on and off- held up with an elastic top and waist. Available in sizes: S, M, and L. Machine wash cold; line dry.
The Dress will be constructed using existing yardage that has been printed and is in inventory. It is one style that will incorporate each of the prints in the Emerald City Collection from Home Fashion Fabrics for six total dress designs.
Since fabric is printed in Los Angeles, for future purposes I'd like to streamline my production by having items manufactured nearby. I attend the LA Textile Show twice a year so have visited the manufacturer myself.
Manufacturing of 200 dresses, fabric, sampling, shipping, and custom labeling; additionally 5% kickstarter fees. The $4,800 will cover this entire amount.
Annually two fabric collections are produced by Home Fashion Fabrics. This would be an opportunity to develop a product with the textiles that are already being printed.
The pattern is made, a sample produced, the fabrics are printed. Sizing and sampling needs to be finalized, ship fabrics, sew dresses, and have them shipped back.
I anticipate that you can have your new dress by the first day of summer, June 22.
Having people be part of this project is exciting and meaningful since it's a way of sharing the experience with others and proves the belief in it.
Nothing is ever achieved alone and whatever you can offer is appreciated beyond measure. I welcome all contributions and advice.
For a donation of $5, you can receive a thank-you postcard. For a donation of $10, you will receive each of the three notecards and for a donation of $15, you can receive one 11x14 print of your choice. See additional rewards for further variations.
Notecards, postcards, and artwork are designed by Josi Severson and printed in NE Minneapolis
Emerald City 18x18 fabric samples, infinity scarves, 20x20 pillowcase, and dress are available for donations of $25, $30, $40 and $50. 18x18 fabric samples include a variety of base cloths in each design; please specify which fabric is desired for scarf, pillowcase, and dress.
The Emerald City Collection, like any other produced by Home Fashion Fabrics, is limited edition. The fabrics produced for this line are printed in limited quantites- the designs are reprinted in new collections using different colors and on different basecloths.
I have been printing textiles for four years and working freelance for various home, fashion and fabric companies for five.
Currently I have a collection with Crate & Barrel: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/artists-and-designers/Josi-Severson/1. My print "Rinca" for Thibaut, a fabric and wallpaper company, received Best Small Print for 2013 by Home & Gardens UK fabric awards in London.
Three of the designs from Emerald City Collection were featured in California Apparel News for Spring/Summer '14 trends, including Heritage (cover), Magic, and Ocean.
If you'd like small samples of the fabric before purchasing a reward, please contact me with preferred style.
Any further questions or concerns can be emailed to me: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you again for taking the time to view this and for the support. Josi
Risks and challenges
Having been involved with printing fabric for several years, there are numerous potential problems that can be presented with production. With textiles it's been a range from delays, shipping mixups, and issues with goods received.
Delay: I've visited this manufacture to help establish a relationship and have been in communication regarding my deadline. Things can still come up to cause delays however letting them know the importance of timely production is helpful.
Order fulfillment: Fabric fulfillment is being done by a separate company that will assist on the project as well.
Satisfaction: I handle product issues on case by case basis. If someone is not satisfied with any product we can discuss it at that time; I encourage customers to order samples so that they're able to see and feel it for themselves before they order- color can vary on a computer. I'd be happy to send samples for this project upon request.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
