"Minnesota Nice", loosely based on a true story, is a neo-noir/crime thriller directed by Gregg Holtgrewe and co-written by Holtgrewe and Alex Miller.
The film follows a conniving wife who "persuades" her brother-in-law to come up with a way to get her husband to sell the family farm to Monsanto. If everything goes accordingly they plan to split the money and move on with their lives.
Aided by a young drifter staying at a seedy motel, the plan goes horribly wrong, eventually leading down a path of greed, betrayal and murder...revealing the true meaning of "Minnesota Nice".
The goal is to shoot the first Act of the feature and continue to raise money as we progress. It's going to be a very grass-roots kind of film with key positions getting equal ownership, like a co-op (not points on the back-end).
We are planning on shooting, casting and crewing up with only Minnesota residents.
Gregg Holtgrewe's last film, "Dawning", was released on DVD and VOD in June, 2011 and has recently been picked up by Netflix and iTunes as well as other major outlets.
"Dawning" played over 20 festivals and won four awards, including: Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Audience Award and a Silver Ace for 'Excellence in Filmmaking'.
"Dawning" was also chosen as "Best Film of the Year (2010)" by multiple genre critics/websites and made it onto 6 Top Ten Lists.
Of course, there are also those who tweet things like "whoever made the movie Dawning should be shot"...so maybe this film will finally be Holtgrewe's demise. Who's to say? Either way, help make it happen!
