STEM: Epic Heroes is a fun and fast paced game that is easily picked up by new players, while providing a light layer of depth for seasoned gamers.
Your goal is to use Heroes to make discoveries, enhance your score with items and locations, and use inspiration cards to accelerate your progress and disrupt your opponents. Core mechanics are based around competitive set collection with some take that elements.
The Game has 2 decks. The Hero Deck and the Discovery Deck. Play begins with all players being dealt a hand from the Hero Deck. This will include your Heroes, Items, Locations, and Inspiration Cards.
Discovery Cards are dealt face up to the middle of the table and represent the steps of the scientific method. You compete over these cards to score points.
Play your Epic Heroes to acquire Discovery Cards based on the hero's Type (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Polymath), depicted by color and icon. All heroes have Special Abilities! Learn how to best use these abilities to gain the advantage!
Add Item and Location Cards to your heroes to enhance their scoring potential and increase the value of your discoveries. Some items and locations are stronger when played with certain Hero Abilities, further increasing score.
Play Inspiration Cards to instantly change the game! These cards may be played even if it's not your turn. They accelerate your progress, disrupt your opponents, and protect you from other player's inspiration cards.
When a player has completed all 5 steps of the Scientific Method, the game ends and players count up their points. Whoever has earned the most points wins.
Gameplay rules are simple and easy to learn. The real game begins once you start to learn how to maximize hero abilities and inspiration cards to outwit your opponents and achieve victory!
NonZero Sum Games (Written Review)
STEM: Epic Heroes began with a simple idea.
What if all the great historical figures of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics were reimagined as superheroes?
We wanted to depict these heroes in an art style that you would expect to find in modern fantasy games or comic books, instead of the boring b&w photos or childish cartoon style that you normally see. We wanted it to be something different!
As avid gamers, we thought a tabletop card game would be a fun way to see this vision brought to life. So, we went to work. We’ve made it 90% of the way and now we need YOUR help to reach the finish line!
