PROJECT UPDATE (07/31/17) Final Stretch: Hey friends! Because we are rounding the corner to the end of this campaign, I decided to add a new reward! Once we reach $28,000, all backers who have contributed $15 or more will get their NAME posted in the digital album credits on my website. I would love to share with everyone exactly who made this project come to life. Reminder, total project expenses are $40,000 so we have a lot of ground to cover this final week... but we can do this! :)
Human. It's what I am, it's what you are. We all go through ups and downs, seasons of great joy and seasons we wish we could erase. Writing songs from all of these moments has been the heartbeat behind my music from the very beginning. It's my passion. Why? Because if I'm real with you, you might be real with me. And it's in that tender place of vulnerability that relationship happens, where loneliness is cast aside even for a moment, and where unity and mutual understanding can be found regardless of external experience.
What if I was able to create an album with more honesty than I have before?
This is Human.
If you didn't know this already, I am an independent artist. That means I pay out of pocket for everything that keeps this ministry running. What exists today exists not because of any funding from a major label but because of the generous support of people like you over the years buying my albums, coming out to shows, bringing my band and me into your church and community for events, and word of mouth. In other words, your support has held and still holds a vital role in the existence of this music ministry. And because of your support, I have been able to share about the goodness of God with more people than would have been possible without you. This project is an effort to keep that going!
As I sit here writing this for you, my heart swells thinking of how people like you have individually and collectively encouraged this small-town girl's passion to share the gospel across the country (and made that a reality) over the past 10+ years. And as I said before, I want to keep at it for many more years to come, but I'm going to need your help to do that. If you have been touched at any point by what my team and I are doing and want to see it continue, too, can I be so bold and ask you to donate today?
When you give to this project, you get fun items in return! To see the complete list of rewards, look through the column on the right (or if on your phone, turn it to landscape/horizontal). Below are a few of the rewards at a glance (in pictures, yay!):
Our initial goal with this Kickstarter is to raise $20,000 to help fund about half of expenses of the album. However, we have decided that it could be fun to have some "stretch goals" if together we go above and beyond the original goal of $20,000:
- $30,000 STRETCH GOAL: If we reach $30,000, we will record more songs!!!! There are a few songs that I would love to get on this album, but we have chosen to set them aside in an effort to be wise with our money. For example, one of the songs is a song I wrote for my grandma just days before she unexpectedly passed away. It's a song for anyone who has lost a loved one -- something I believe most of us can relate to. That being said, if we can get to this goal, it would mean the world to me. We are in a bit of time-crunch to get these additional songs on the album by the time September rolls around, so here's what we will do. In September, we will mail backers the 7-song album as originally planned... and then in following few months (as studio time allows), we will wrap up the remaining songs and ship you a WHOLE NEW album with all the additional songs. Think of it like a Deluxe Edition! :)
- $40,000 STRETCH GOAL: YAY!! We are fully-funded!!! If we reach $40,000, I will not only send you the "deluxe" album, but I will also record two of my favorite worship songs and send digital downloads of those to you as well! Many of you have requested the worship songs I play for Sunday morning worship services. This would be the perfect opportunity for me to do that for you...finally! *Note: due to tour schedule and time constraints, delivery of these worship songs will likely be in November sometime.
- $50,000 STRETCH GOAL: If we reach $50,000 (seriously, if we got to this I wouldn't even know how to say thanks!), then we have some filming to do! We will let you vote (kickstarter backers only) on two of the songs off the album and we will do music videos for the two songs that get the most votes! How fun!!
- $50,000+ PIE IN THE SKY STRETCH GOAL: Any additional money raised beyond $50,000 will go towards updating some of our travel gear. We have toured hard with the equipment we have had for a long time, and it's time to update before it's too late :P A couple things that will need replacing/purchasing in the near future are: Wireless in-ear system, Hitch and trailer for our car (so we can have space for my keyboardist to fit on drive dates, haha!), Keyboard, and Miscellaneous cables, microphone stands, etc. If we go crazy and raise more than we need for these things, we will put the money into purchasing a new travel vehicle so we can stop putting miles on our personal cars.
With this Kickstarter project, our initial goal is to raise about 1/2 of the support needed to fund the album in full. This means that the $20,000 Kickstarter goal is only about 1/2 the cost of the full project ($40,000 expected total costs). Where is all that money going? Here is a quick breakout of what we expect for project expenses:
If we do reach our fundraising goal of $20,000, we will still have more financing to cover for us to complete the whole project. Consequently, my husband Chris and I will have to personally fund the remainder if we don't reach our stretch goals (above). And as you can imagine, personally covering $20,000 of additional expenses would be a difficult undertaking for us right now. That being said, every dollar you can give to the project before (and after) we have reached our initial goal means the world to us.
In addition to this, you should know that Chris and I try our hardest to not take any money from the ministry for our personal expenses so that there is no additional burden on the ministry on account of us. That's why Chris runs his own business on the side. You can rest assured that money donated to this Kickstarter will go directly into the album.
Risks and challenges
I've made several full-length albums before, so I don't anticipate many challenges that I'm not already prepared for.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
