A while back we were asked by a good client to help him with some dice for a brand he owns. An idea immediately came back to mind as we talked about the dice. I knew before we were off the phone what I wanted to blow his mind with. As excited as we were for them to come to life, it slowly became bitter sweet as the cost for the vision was becoming more than the clients budget. At that point they were put on the shelf and a different design was pursued for the client. But we were smitten with what we had. We brought them off the shelf and refined them perfectly. We know that they aren't for your average person, but we don't think you are average people. The Kickstarter community welcomed us in with our first project The PocketPuck and we feel you all will love this project as well.
The dice we designed to bring to you here on Kickstarter are simple yet unique. We prefer the simple lines that typical dice already have but wanted to add just a bit more. So the press fit raised PIP design was born. We knew we needed to make sure to compensate for the extra weight added with each PIP so we used a CAD program to calculate how much material to remove behind the PIP to balance the 15mm dice. We drill out the location for the PIPs and we press fit in a stainless steel bearing. If you are wondering if it will come out, only with some help and effort, normal gameplay will not be an issue. We know that they aren't just pretty dice that will sit on a shelf and playability is key. The tactile feel of the raised PIPs along with the density of brass and stainless is a great combo here.
If you are serious about Cribbage then you are going to be excited about this. Any good Cribbage player will tell you that the board you play with tells a lot about you...well maybe not, but this one will! Sitting around the table at the cabin looking down at the old board found at a garage sale lit an inspiration that some of you could probably relate to. A question lingered, "Aren't there any different cribbage boards?" A quick google search was all it took. Seriously click the link. The answer came in with a resounding NO! We, in true HogDoggins style designed our own with simplicity and everlasting function being the focus. Little details like the engraved directional arrows for those who seem to always forget what the direction of play is. The storage for the pegs is for guys like me who hate to pull out a game only to find that a piece is missing.
We have designed a solid 6061 aluminum cribbage board built to outlast you. Fully machined in the USA using US sourced material. With playability and portability in mind we integrated pin storage in the ends of each rail with textured caps for ease of removal as well as engraved directional arrows indicating direction of play.
Made for tabletop play the cribbage board is solid and sturdy, ready for even the most celebrated wins. They are made to outlast you. We understand that abuse of the boards will probably only consist of fist pounding and aggressive peg moves we know it would be able to take whatever abuse you put it through in normal game play. Trust that this board will be the only board you ever need to buy and we think it'll be the "go to" board you use most.
We have made things personal by offering a variety of colors for the rails. Green, Blue, Silver, Red, Pink and black. The base will come in clear coated aluminum resulting in a brushed silver color. The design of the rails are "right" "left" specific and offering multi color combinations would only make the boards cost more. So we have decided to keep it simple for you and more cost effective. However if you buy more than one that option opens back up by mixing up the ones you pledge for.
You may be wondering why we decided to launch these two projects together. The answer is simple, money. The amount needed to do each individually is nearly triple what it would be if combined. With the cost of each item considered we felt it best to launch together as a chance to keep the cost of the item pledged to a minimum.
We come to the KickStarter community with a couple additions in the tabletop gaming community in hopes that you share our vision and like the different versions of these classics we have for you.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges with this project are limited to the anodization. If we receive a larger than expected response we will need to add "waves" to our shipment schedule. We have anticipated this as a possibility and have resources at the ready.
The brass dice are all hand finished. The possibility of a large response here will only put rewards for the later backers out further. This is anticipated and reflected in the actual reward tiers. As on tier sells out the next is available with a later shipping date. The sooner you pledge the sooner you will receive your rewards.
