Welcome Bleeding Cool readers!
The amount of stuff that the average American knows about Utah lore and history is incredibly limited.
Be honest, when you hear "UTAH" what do you think?
Probably one of three words immediately came to mind. It's a shame! Those three words can't possibly touch the bizarre history, the rich lore, the hilarious untold tales that come from our strange state. Utah is that rare and wonderful place where reality is almost always stranger than fiction.
What are you backing?
The completion of the comic book Salt City Strangers #2, the continuation of the epic saga!
Vital stats: Page count - 32 (29 pages of story), Color cover (Kickstarter Exclusive), B&W interior, Standard modern comic size.
Salt City Strangers is a book about Utah pop culture, urban legends, and the things that go bump in the night. The Stranger the Better! If you're from Utah, you'll see them standing at Emo's grave and say "Hey, I've been there", and if you're not from Utah, you'll say "What the hell are they doing at that grave - these people are ridiculous!" And you'd be right. Click here to read "The story so far..."
Inspired by Utah themes, the Salt City Strangers come together from diverse backgrounds and combine their strengths against the forces of evil.
Golden Spike, Leader - Spike works tirelessly to inspire his team of volunteer superheroes to stick together and protect Utah for supernatural threats with varying degrees of success. He is the latest in a line of Golden Spike's who have defended the world against an unspeakable evil, that has been bound to another dimension even since the intercontinental railroad connected east and west near Promontory Point, Utah.
Spike does his best but still has a feeling that he's one bad decision away from the team disbanding for good.
Den Mother - Born Caitlyn Beckstead, Den Mother uses her powers of enhanced senses and being able to instantly perform any task detailed in the troop manual (from tracking to sewing to bugling) to keep track of friend an foe alike.
A true friend, Caitlyn is reluctant to talk about her past and prefers to keep her thoughts and actions on her future.
Deputy Deseret - Adam Campbell is the sharpshooter and social media guru of the group. His quick reflexes are matched only by the speed of his wits. Armed with the steel smoke-wagons of famed cowboy O.P. Rockwell, he fires supernatural powered "Spirit Bullets" which have a devastating effect on evil creatures. He also traces some of his lineage to the first peoples of Utah.
The deputy has begun to notice a presence during the heat of battle, sometimes encouraging him to put his enemies down for a permanent dirt-nap. Are these the thoughts of a combat weary soldier? Or the beginning of something more sinister?
The Gull - Not much is known about the man known only as The Gull. The first recruited member of the team, his dizzying intellect and proficiency for creating wondrous gadgets would make him a shoe-in to join any of the world's top super teams. Unfortunately, his tendency to root through garbage and generally act in a manner some would define as "a bit off" has deterred any effort on his part to do so.
He believes he would make a much better leader for the Salt City Strangers if he was given the chance. Until then, The Gull patiently waits atop his perch, ready to snatch his opportunity like an unattended ice cream cone.
Son of Bigfoot - Jacob Allred (his adopted name) was raised by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Provo, Utah after he was discovered by outdoors-men hunting for deer in nearby Provo Canyon. Jacob is a hard worker who has himself adopted the team as a surrogate family. Having recently graduated with his high school diploma (home school) he's looking forward to going to college and receiving his mission call.
Some Utah legends associate the legend of bigfoot with the biblical "Mark of Cain." Although he knows this lore is not endorsed by the LDS Church itself, (and tries to laugh it off when it's mentioned) he can't help but wonder what it would mean for him if he discovered just a little truth behind the stories.

Don't be a Stranger!
Risks and challenges
If unforeseen challenges arise after the project successfully funds, we will be transparent with our backers with exactly what has happened and what we intend to do about it. The biggest obstacle could be if I, the artist, get so busy at work that drawing the book gets delayed. I will address that by taking vacation if need be to complete this book. Our plan is to continue Salt City Strangers as a series and to do that, we can't disappoint our fans!
We've already successfully finished issue #1 on our own so we're very familiar with the process and how everything works from ordering to fulfillment. Our team member Josh has also has success on Kickstarter and has warned us of possible pitfalls.
Salt City Strangers is a labor of love that we have fun doing regardless. We just want everyone along for the ride.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
