Hobson's Homemade is moving downtown!
It's truly serendipitous that we've been presented with an amazing opportunity to have our bakery and products be part of the new Serendipity Cafe. We are beyond ecstatic to be working with Serendipity's owner, Bruce, on what is nothing short of a dream collaboration for us and the community.
It's all about community for us!
Fun fact: before we got married almost 8 years ago now, we traveled cross country in a teal '95 chevy and a travel trailer trying to find our "home." Little did we know it was waiting right here in the town that Laura was born in and lived for the first 6 weeks of her life! We could not be more grateful to be part of the amazing community that is Maynard, Massachusetts.
Maynard is the type of place where everyone is welcome and giving back to the community comes naturally. We've made it a key element of our business to be continually seeking ways to enhance our community whether it's through donations (like our Community Bake Sale: http://www.hobsonshomemade.com/community-bake-sale.html) or simply through trying to fill a need or want of our community.
Maynard needs and wants a bakery!
Having Hobson's Homemade as part of Maynard's new Serendipity Cafe not only gives our community all the wonderful things Serendipity will offer (a meeting place, evening hours to grab a coffee, music, conscientiously made food that we can all feel good about feeding our families) but also the retail bakery space that everyone has been asking for!
This is where you come in:
We've never been in this to get rich and feel very strongly about providing a quality product for an attainable price. However, that leaves us in that position that in order to complete this project successfully we find it necessary to ask for your help in funding this opportunity, which is truly nothing less (and a whole lot more) than everything we've been working toward our entire lives!
To thank you for your generosity we've put together some enticing rewards to give you tangible, creative and unique thanks, while keeping in mind our goal of raising money to spend on equipment that will also be of benefit to you. Check out our rewards over to the right hand side of your screen and don't hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
We know that it's always a big decision to spend money, especially in this day and age when we are all watching our budgets. When we've contributed to Kickstarter campaigns in the past it's been important for us to see how the money we contribute is being spent. You have our word that the funds you help us raise will be spent conscientiously and that we will purchase quality used equipment from local Massachusetts suppliers for these items when at all possible. Here's what your generosity will help us purchase:
* Commercial Electric Convection Oven (so we can bake in the cafe space instead of running back and forth to our home kitchen)~ $5,000
* Commercial Bread Slicer (this is an important item those of you who have asked for sliced bread) ~ $3,000
* Dough Sheeter (This turns the hours of time spend rolling dough for things like cinnamon buns, apple cinnamon pull apart bread & puff pastry into quarter hours and increases efficiency!) ~ $1,800
* Bakery Display Cases (So you can see our baked goods!) ~ $ 2,500
*Other small appliances & equipment (storage containers for ingredients, large capacity cooling racks, sheet trays, and bread pans, to meet increased demand) ~$2,000
We have the ambitious undertaking of raising at least $15,000 in just 15 days.
We're taking a big chance running a short campaign, but in order to get funded and purchase and install the equipment in time for Serendipity Cafe to open on October 19th we have to make it happen!
Hobson's Homemade is the most important thing either of us has ever had the privilege to spend our time on and we are thrilled to be taking this next step together with all of you.
We Thank you sincerely for your contribution in any amount toward our new downtown bakery reality and for sharing our Kickstarter campaign with your friends, family, neighbors and on facebook and other social media.

Risks and challenges
Once our project is funded, we'll be putting our 30+ combined years of customer service and food service experience to good use. While a new venture always has some element of risk we bring a ton of experience to the table and have prepared ahead for all permits and licenses. We are nothing short of blessed with an amazingly supportive community and customer base. We quit our jobs to make a go at this so we're 100% invested in this project as its success is essential to us having a roof over our heads. We've traded in our two cars for one, contributed our personal savings and our profits from this season's farmers' market and are willing to sell just about anything that's not physically holding up our house to make this work. The main challenge in our eyes is that our involvement with Serendipity Cafe could be more successful than we have the infrastructure in place to handle but there's a great team on board and a broad community network to pull support from in the event we need it. There is no doubt in our minds this project will be a huge success!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
