A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

We've also added a sleeve on the back to keep your sleeping pad where it should be...directly beneath you at all times.

Free shipping. Because everybody deserves free shipping. Everybody.
A sleeping bag and sleeping pad to the homeless. We love helping the homeless. That's why for every sleeping bag purchased, we also donate one to the homeless.
This is the most exciting part! There are people freezing to death every night because they have nowhere to stay and nothing to keep them warm. They do not have the means fulfill most of their basic needs. That's why for every Yak Sak backed, we will also be providing a sleeping bag to the homeless! This is going to have a huge positive impact on a lot of lives who need it desperately! And it doesn't stop with our Kickstarter. Hammocks, Backpacks, Socks, Underwear, Ponchos, Water Bottles, etc. Every time we sell one of these products, we'll send another straight to the homeless! It's a win-win-win!
Helping the homeless is something I've done with the company since the very beginning. Through Hobo Hammocks, I've helped provide over 5,500 meals to the homeless! Having my own company enables me to share with people who need it and really make a difference. That's one of my favorite parts of being an entrepreneur!
Now on to the creation of the Yak Sak. The idea was born about a year ago when I was discussing camping products with a dental school professor. (Yes, I'm in dental school) He told me of an idea he's had for a long time...a sleeping bag with the sleeping pad built into it so that it stays under you. I was intrigued by the idea and wanted to combine it with an idea of my own. I've always wanted a sleeping bag with more insulation around the feet as this is the most common place for a camper to get cold.
I created a prototype and informed my professor that I'll be paying him a royalty if this campaign is successfully funded. Upon completion of the first prototype, I found flaws in the design. (zipper catching, stuff sac tearing, zipper separation, etc.) I continued making modifications to the design, and what I have at this point is amazing. But I don't want to stop here. That's because I've worked on kickstarter before, and I know that everybody reading this has a lot of great ideas. That's why I want every backer to be actively involved in the development of the Yak Sak. Please message me and tell me what else you'd like to see in a sleeping bag. I promise I'll read and respond to every message. I'll research each suggestion, and I'll make improvements to the product based on your contributions! Let's make this AMAZING sleeping bag absolutely PERFECT!
Who are we?
To be honest with you, we is actually just me. I'm a dental student with an entrepreneurial heart. I like working hard, and I like creating. Last year I created a camping hammock company called Hobo Hammocks (www.hobohammocks.com). It started with a Kickstarter Campaign, where I raised $17,490 and successfully launched the company that I'm passionately running today. I use that company to help the homeless, and to put a dent in my school debt. The company has been growing steadily over the past year and the feedback I get is overwhelmingly positive. Now I'm hoping to add the Yak Sak to my product inventory!
What can you expect?
As previously mentioned, I've already tackled a successful Kickstarter campaign. I work hard to make a high quality product at a reasonable price. I think my Amazon reviews are proof that people REALLY like what I'm putting on the table, and you can 100% expect the same in the future. Why else would I offer a lifetime, unconditional, no questions asked warranty? I know I have a quality product, and I'm willing to take all necessary steps to make my backers happy. If you have had ANY questions cross your mind while checking out this kickstarter, PLEASE contact me and I'll answer them all!
Risks and challenges
One of my biggest challenges will be maintaining sufficient cash flow. Due to my cause and my mission, my margins are a lot more narrow. This business is NOT a non-profit, I am just trying to do some good with what I've earned, and the more backers I get, the more good I can do!
I have kept in tight communication with my production facility and we have a mutual understanding that I expect production to be completed by the end of March, but they have warned me that if the order is over 1000 sleeping bags, there may be a 1-2 month delay on completion of production.
We work with the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake in Utah. They help people recover from homelessness, by giving them the tools they need to find jobs and apartments to live in. Your contribution will help to feed the people going through this homeless recovery program.
You're not quite ready to drop the dollars on the best sleeping bag you'll ever own, but you like the fact that we are sharing with the homeless with every product that we sell, and to prove it you're giving us $7 to send you some stickers so you can tell all your friends about our awesome company! We'll also include a meal to the homeless.
You recognize good style instantly. Or maybe the only t-shirt you own is starting to smell like a dead rat? Either way, this is the choice for you. We'll hook you up with a brand new t-shirt that you can wear proudly while shouting from a mountain top, "I love the Yak Sak!" This pledge will also provide a t-shirt to the homeless!
Already completely satisfied with the warmth of your sleeping bag? Then just try out our tapered sleeping pad. It measures 72" long, 20" wide at the shoulders and 12" wide at the feet. It's a quick and easy self inflating pad that will have you singing "The Hills Are Alive" as you wake up super mega refreshed every morning. And, of course, the homeless will also be receiving a sleeping pad!
This is a great option if you don't use a sleeping pad, or if you already have a sleeping pad. Just make sure your sleeping pad measures 78" x 22" or smaller ...Otherwise, you should probably just go with the whole enchilada!
Showing up early pays off! From now on, if you wake up in the middle of the night while you're camping, it will be because you're pondering the vastness of the universe, not because you can't feel your feet. Because the Yak Sak is going to keep your feet nice and toasty. And your sleeping pad is going to stay precisely where you want it...directly underneath your ever so peaceful, well-rested body. Sleep will come easy knowing you've also provided a sleeping bag and pad to the homeless!

Let's face it, having a Yak Sak will save you from cold feet, but it won't save you from the guilty feelings that come from knowing you're going to get a way better night sleep than your spouse/lover/homie in the hammock or tent right next to you. So call up your homie, tell them about this kickstarter, and then save yourselves a couple bucks and order together! This also means you're hooking up twice as many homeless people!
Here's the scenario my friend: You gather up a group of 10 amigos who all want to say goodbye to cold footed camping. Their fondness of you grows deeper when they realize what a genius you are for finding this true treasure, and you all get to spend more time camping together, because fear is no longer a part of your vocabulary. The homeless worship you as you've provided ten of their brothers with a sleeping bag to keep them warm at night. You become a legend and live forever.
