I will create a contemporary interpretation of the Finnish fish trap called a Katiska. The installation will be in human scale and invite physical participation from my audience. It is the shape of Katiska that confronts and exploits the innate and primal curiosity of the living, which often ends in an inescapable consequence.
Funding from Kickstarter will assist me in the formal realization of my vision. Katiska will be on exhibition in the Rosenwald Wolf Gallery in Philadelphia, PA with opening reception on November 30th, from 6 - 9 PM, EST.
The LBS sculpture that is part of my giveaways for my supporters was installed in the show Cosmic Bodies also in Philadelphia, PA, curated by Roberta Fallon and Libby Rosof of theartblog. A larger outdoor installation was completed as part of the Shore Institute of Contemporary Art's annual urban sculpture park entitled, Sculptoure.
I appreciate any and all support!
Risks and challenges
My biggest challenge is that because of Hurricane Sandy, I wasn't able to create my Kickstarter request in time for funding to be available for materials. This is why my funding time is only 15 days.
The risks are with installation. I am creating on location. Any unforeseen challenges are dealt with on site. I have created a site specific design based on the measurements of the gallery space. I have many years of experience with construction material and on the job details and site specific restrictions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
