About

Gnosis Conflict is a 2-4 player board game set in a dystopian near-future where the governments and corporations vie for control over downed pieces of extra-terrestrial probes, salvaged for their technology and kept secret from the public. The resulting technological arms race has spawned ruthless collection teams sent out into the field to claim their prize and dispose of any who get in their way. Players take control of one of four factions’ collections team and battle other teams for control of salvage on the board.

  • Low Barrier to Entry – Strategy games are known for a high barrier to entry in terms of both skill and cost. Gnosis Conflict is aimed at novices to the genre with a simplified rules set, quick combat resolution and respawn mechanics for units allowing players to recover from mistakes. The game is self-contained, so there’s no need to sink hundreds of dollars into expensive miniatures either.
  • Depth of Gameplay – Veterans of the strategy game genre will find that each faction has a different play style with a special ability unique to them. Players field a diverse array of units, no generic drones sent into battle but dozens of units to choose from with distinct flavor and abilities. The playing field is constructed by the players not knowing where their base will be bringing a level of strategy to the game before it even begins as players must consider what advantages they risk giving away.
  • No 2 Games Play the Same – Gnosis Conflict features 2 different game types to allow for a range of challenge emphasizing raw combat tactics or area control. Each faction comes with several units and players choosing which few of them to field for a given game. A customizable deck of upgrades allows players to further tailor their strengths and weaknesses. Lastly, the board is constructed by the players from a large assortment of terrain.
  • 4 Factions to Choose From

The MNDC

The MNDC (an acronym for the Multi-National Defense Coalition) is known to the public as an anti-terrorist task force sponsored by the UN. It is in reality an attempt by first world nations to hold their own in the technology race with mega-corporations. Candidates for the MNDC are chosen from elite forces and reflect advanced military training.

The MNDC is optimal for new players as it is easier to learn, and focuses on brute force over finesse of gameplay. They feature many powerful units, but field smaller armies as a result, and specialize in ranged ordinance.

 Synthtech Genetics

A medical equipment and pharmaceutical corporation by trade, Synthtech Genetics uses its profits to fund illegal genetic research. The myriad twisted experiments they create are secretly unleashed to recover lost alien technology. Synthtech Genetics plays up-close and personal.

Their beastly units are fast and specialize in terrain negotiation with the goal of getting close to their opponent with powerful melee attacks. Synthtech also possesses a few units capable of flight, ensuring their supremacy moving around the board.

Marauders

Not a true faction, but a catch-all term for any smaller corporation attempting to enter the technology arms race. The term refers to the social derelicts, outcasts and other undesirables haphazardly given weaponry to champion the cause for the faceless corporation. Willing to accept the risks, the gangs take the devil’s bargain.

The Marauders are a cautious lot, believing in strength in numbers. They perform best when they can gang up on an opponent, but leave themselves open to explosive reprisals. Beware, their most powerful attacks have a chance of backfiring.

Hadreon Dynamics

Before their discovery of the first alien probe, Hadreon Dynamics was a struggling weapons and technology development firm. On its last legs, the firm had sold off most of its assets in an attempt to preserve what remained. They are now a leading designer of weapons and augmentation technologies with extensive military contracts, including the MNDC.

Hadreon Dynamics shares the brute force of the MNDC, but are not without their tricks. These tricks provide the extra edge this faction relies on and makes them the hardest faction to play. Momentum is key and it is delivered through careful use of the temporary bonuses their enhancement deck provides further bolstered by their use of support units and greater control over Salvage bonuses.

The game box includes all the pieces needed to play a 2-4 player game:

  • 4 Factions with 6 Unit Cards each
  • Tokens for each Unit plus additional tokens for Mines and other specific Faction Abilities
  • 4 Unique Faction Ability Cards
  • ~30 Tokens to mark damage, respawn time and generic tokens
  • 6 Enhancement Cards unique to each faction
  • 5 Neutral Enhancement Cards (2 copies each)
  • 12 Double-Sided Terrain Tiles (Final version will be printed on chit board)
  • 4 Cloning Facilities/Bases (1 each faction)
  • Combat Tracker
  • 10-Sided Die
  • Instruction Booklet

The pictures above are of the current prototype of the game. We will be implementing some revisions to improve the UI to the game for the final version:

Unit Cards have added icons for clarity and some final re-balances to keep gameplay fast as intended.

Gnosis Conflict was designed to be a self-contained game, but built in a modular fashion to allow for expanding on the game and its universe. Our first goal is to add new factions to the game, adding to the mix of play styles the game allows for. We’ve mapped out a rich world setting and in time we hope to build on that too. At this time, we have a single stretch goal, to release expansion content in the form of 2 new factions: Project Valiant and the Consultants. We have already concepted these factions and begun initial testing, so we aim for a relatively quick turn around to bring this expansion to market with art taking the longest time to come to fruition.

Our stretch goal to take this game to the next level is to reach $42k. That is a high goal to reach for, but it is realistic for our needs. Gnosis Conflict utilizes a lot of high quality art which does not come cheap, and unfortunately we expended what personal resources were available to cover production of the game's existing art. As we are a new company and unproven, we felt it was important to bring this project as close to completion as possible before moving it to Kickstarter and asking for your trust and support.

Should we reach this goal, we will provide monthly updates on our progress towards creating the game's expansion, though we anticipate a year and a half before it could be ready. Backers at the Faction Builder level will automatically be sent a copy of the expansion when it is ready. We will also add a new reward tier above Squad Leader offering the expansion and all lower reward tiers.

Rather then add in a series of smaller stretch goals, we wanted to play with non-monetary goals in a way that allowed us to engage with our audience. As we reach these goals, more pieces get added to the core game. The rewards are unlocked linearly.

Rewards:

We estimate total fulfillment of rewards from the initial goal to backers by the end of February of 2017.

Backers getting digital rewards, those will be available immediately after funding. Patches, we believe that to be printed and shipped within 2 months of funding.

We’re going to estimate a slightly longer time to handled design verification with the printer to ensure everything is right as this is our first time through this process, followed by proofing the samples – about 8 weeks.

Main production and final assembly is estimated at 8-10 weeks, and it looks like we’ll run through some holidays that will add 1-2 weeks onto this estimate.

Shipping to the US East coast will be about 5-7 weeks. From there we figure perhaps 2 weeks for reward fulfillment for backers who are getting finished copies of the game. At current, we expect to be handling order fulfillment ourselves, though that can change if this project becomes more successful then anticipated.

If we reach our stretch goal for the game's expansion, we are giving a rough estimate of Fall 2018 for the game to be finished and delivered. Monthly updates will be sent to backers so they can see our progress.

We will be utilizing backerkit to ensure fulfillment runs smoothly. This also means that shipping fees will be handled separately later. Additional shipping fees will not be applied to the game patches as this is not a complicated or expensive cost to account for.

We limiting our campaign to shipping in the US and handling International backers on a case-by-case basis. We have heard of a lot of pitfalls with International shipping and want to proceed with caution.

At current, we will be handling fulfillment ourselves as we've kept our reward streamlined. If it reaches a large enough scale, we will utilize the services of a third party to handle fulfillment to ensure it goes smoothly.

From Left to Right: Josh, Daniel, Anthony & Erin

Anthony Gallo – Anthony is the lead designer on the project and owner of HitMouse Productions. He runs things behind the scenes from his cave in Queens, NY. He’s been a hobbyist designer for a decade running various rpg campaigns like D&D and Mage: the Ascension and tweaking or redesigning systems from the ground up, but this is the first game he’s bringing to the publishing stage. He graduated from Hunter College with degrees in Philosophy and History and later did a stint at Full Sail University to formally study game design.

Erin Rosenzweig - Erin is the Art Director/Lead Artist, as well as a graphic designer and sculptor in her free time. A native northerner, Erin attended Northern Michigan University’s School of Art and Design and graduated with a B.F.A. in Electronic Imaging, which by today’s standards is probably referred to as Digital Art. Seriously, they did everything in that major. After habitually illustrating every character she’s ever played in a table-top game, (and also many video games), she eventually found her skills put to use doing the thing she loves most, drawing for games. You can find her on FB @ www.facebook.com/allnighterproductions & her store @ www.etsy.com/shop/allnighterproduction

Joshua Ferraiuolo - Joshua is spearheading the public face of HitMouse and also one of its game designers. He started running CCG tournaments at the local gaming store in high school and graduated to GMing in college. Life has gifted him the opportunity to run games at cons across the country. Joshua is an Eagle Scout and an avid reader of sci-fi, fantasy, and manuals read cover to cover.

Daniel Song - Daniel is the newest member of the team and is a concept artist with a degree in Studio Art from City College. While his main focus in HitMouse is art, he lends a hand with both game design and marketing.

Risks and challenges

• HitMouse Productions is a new company, publishing its first game and this is our first time running a Kickstarter. That comes with a lot of unknowns and potential pitfalls. We’ve solicited a lot of advice from both game designer and Kickstarter veterans to avoid these problems. We’ve also built in a bit of a financial buffer into our backer goal to account for any mistakes we do make.
• One of the ways we’ve tried to minimize the potential risks is to front load the work on the game itself and bring as close to completion as possible before we got to the publication stage. While this minimizes the risk to our backers, we as a company have taken on the risk of our initial backing bid publishes the game at a loss to us. We have have a strong desire to see our creation reach people but confidence we can surpass our initial goals and close that financial gap.
• Product manufacturing comes with the standard risks of delays and our timeline estimates have built in some of that risk. Our game is being manufactured overseas, so that comes with its own usual risks like delays with customs.
• We’ve kept our reward tiers streamlined so fulfillment will be a simple process with much less risk of error. We appreciate our backers and want to make sure they get their rewards promptly and without trouble.
• We stand by our game and will offer a refund on any pledge up to 1 month after you have received your reward.
