About this project
The World's First Flexible Flashgun.
With its bendy neck, it makes directing and controlling light not only easier, but also more fun!
We've also included an easy-on filter system and a modular accessory point so that you are no longer limited in your photography and can expand your creative calling.
If that was not enough, the battery Spacefish uses has 3X the capacity of 4 AAs! That sort of power will keep you shooting all day and throughout the night too!
This project has been about making photography fun since day one. So many of our followers are afraid to break into the lighting world because it is too technical and we are here to challenge that.
Don't be a Feartographer, be a Funtographer!
We have had support from many different industries, including dentistry, forensics, automotive, fashion, medical research and of course photographers all over the planet.
Spacefish so far...
The Kickstarter community has been so supportive in the progress of many inspiring projects, making them a success and a reality. Unlike 'big company' campaigns we don't have an established company behind us with masses of funds to invest, we are a young start-up based in the UK with limited funds.
Funds will be used to start-up the production process for Spacefish, allowing us to ship Spacefish in approximately 4 months. If we exceed our goal, it will also be used to begin R&D for further product innovation and engineering.
- Money for tooling and manufacture
- Costs involved in the final production stages
- Support for a UK start-up
If we surpass our goals?
- £39,400 -- Addition of TTL to first model given to everyone who wants it - no matter the price they paid,
- £45,000 -- we will ship Spacefish with a set of our easy-on filters
- £50,000 -- we can get the app development done before Christmas
- £55,000 + -- all the above and a few secret things... (Ooooh, we love secrets!)
As a business we have set ourselves some goals if this project is successful.
Launching Spacefish won't be the end of innovation for us. Not only will we constantly strive to improve upon our existing product, but we will also continue to create, develop and deliver new innovative designs to help photographers really open up and expand their creative side.

Risks and challenges
We have worked tirelessly to 'de-risk' as much as we can before this campaign started. We have manufacturing in place and retailers ready to go. We have also painstakingly laboured over the design for manufacturing and tooling, as a result, we are very nearly ready to begin manufacturing the first run of Spacefish® Flashguns. Something a lot of projects on Kickstarter are not.
However, there is always the risk of unforeseen challenges when manufacturing physical products as we go through the certification process, finish setting up the production line, and line up logistics. If an unexpected issue arises, we are resolved to doing everything we can to get as close to our delivery schedule as possible.
Thank you so much for your support and we hope you enjoy what we produce!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Spacefish is designed not to re-invent the flashgun, but to progress it forwards after a 40 year slump!
The neck of Spacefish® allows you to angle the head into a flashgun soft box or beauty dish straight from the flash bracket.
This, in fact, is easier than using the fiddly bracket to move things around!
We have designed every part of Spacefish to be as robust as it can possibly be. Top to bottom we have thought long and hard about reliability and structural analysis.
In regard to the hotshoe, we are using a high-tensile, glass infused nylon composite. This is a big deal for us, we want the product to be as strong, reliable and usable for all of you. This nylon gives it some stretch and protects not only the Spacefish, but your camera too!
The Spacefish currently uses a standard Universal hotshoe. It is, if we do not hit our stretch goals going to be manual in the first instance and we are working on the TTL right now.
If your camera uses a standard hotshoe mount then spacefish will work. I know sony uses the Minolta mount for its hotshoe but with an adaptor it will still function!
