Hello and welcome!
I'm Hillary Capps, a singer songwriter based out of New York City and this is my first ever Kickstarter project Maybe in the Morning!: A seven song EP and my first album of all original material.
What's in a name?
The project gets its name from the first track on the album. The EP is entitled Maybe in the Morning because the common thread that weaves these seven diverse songs together is the subject of time: looking backwards and forwards, timing, indecision and expectation... In addition, the songs were written over the span of the past year and a half. They all came to fruition during different stages of an exciting, emotional, and somewhat tumultuous yet wonderful period of growth, both musically and emotionally, in my life.
Now I'm graduating from college (in a few weeks!) and heading into the next phase, whatever that may be. As uncertain as the future may seem right now, the one thing that I know will always undoubtedly make sense for me as a person is to sing. I decided to create this EP both as a way to (in the most literal sense) voice my experiences as well as a tool that will in all hopes propel my music career forward. Even more importantly, I want to share these songs with everyone because I believe the things I have experienced and written about will be relatable and relevant to a broad audience (plus they are a lot of fun and I think you'll have a great time listening and even singing along :) But I need your help to make this a reality!
All in a day's work
... well, not so much. Making a record is quite the investment! Luckily, I have been blessed with supportive parents. My father who is a musician, as well as an engineer/producer, has a studio in my home state of Vermont where I went to record some of the material. The rest of the tracks were recently recorded here in the city and everything is sounding great!
Maybe in the Morning is very much a collaborative effort. The eclectic EP wouldn't be what it is thus far without the help of some very talented musicians from both VT and NYC! A big thank you to:
- Anthony Farina - co-songwriter, producer, guitar, auxiliary percussion, synth, back-up vocals
- Joe Capps - co-engineer, producer, guitar, auxiliary percussion
- Joey Sommerville (Atlanta) - trumpet, keys
- Caleb Bronz - drums
- Peter Krag - piano
- John Dunlop - cello
- Eric Eaton - cello
- John Rivers - bass
- Pat Markley - bass
- Ted Tuthill - co-engineer
Now what's left to do? The album needs to be beautifully mixed, mastered and packaged! So I am thrilled to have recently connected with New York producer Allen Farmelo who has agreed to take on the mixing! I’m excited to have Allen on board to provide a new perspective, creative ear and propel the tracks to their fullest sonic potential.
Allen Farmelo is a Grammy-nominated engineer and producer who lives in Brooklyn, NY and works wherever his projects take him. He has recently been working on albums with The Cinematic Orchestra, Wilco keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen, Talk Normal, The Loom and many more. You can read more about him at farmelorecording.com
