About this project

The RPG Character Compendium

AU$ 937

149

You've joined an RPG group and a new world awaits! What kind of character will you create to represent yourself as you explore the awaiting wonders and challenges of these new lands?

Could you be Kregg Froskaros, a monstrous barbarian who is more muscle than brains? Or perhaps Myridyn, a royal lady who wishes to explore the outside world away from her controlling parents?

This guide is designed to be used alongside your chosen system's player's guide or handbook, as a way of fleshing out the numbers and abilities provided there.

If you have issues creating a deep and interesting character, or simply need a way to spark the imagination, look no further than the RPG Character Compendium!

This Compendium will feature 100 unique and exciting characters that can be quickly adapted to the RPG system of your choice.

The Compendium will provide a detailed, pre-written backstory, a description of their mannerisms and behaviours, as well as tips and guides for every single character if you wish to switch things up. Most, if not all characters will feature concept art, but the specifics of appearance are always changeable to suit your desires.

The characters within the compendium will be organised by mechanical type, with simpler, easier to play characters (such as Barbarians) at the start of the book, and more complex, deeper characters (such as Casters) towards the end.

Also in the Compendium will be a dedicated chapter to creating characters from scratch if you do not want to turn to pre-created characters for inspiration. This chapter will cover basics such as appearance, backstory, behaviours and motivations, as well as advice on how to create depth and realism to further your role-playing capabilities.

Tryx

Description:

Tryx is a quick-witted, ambitious Gnome. He has always lived among Human populations, trying to integrate into their society and make a big buck while doing so. Diminutive even for a Gnome, Tryx relies on ranged weapons such as his trusty crossbows during the rare occasions he finds himself in a fight.

How to build Tryx:

To create Tryx or a similar character, select the Gnome race, and Ranger class. If your chosen system does not include these options, select similar classes, specifically those which are capable with ranged weapons.

Tryx relies on his Dexterity and Wisdom in both combat and social environments. Assign your highest scores to these abilites. Tryx is also charismatic, as he likes to talk his way out of situations rather than fight. Assign your third highest score to Charisma.

The other stats are less important to the mechanical aspect of playing Tryx, so you can freely choose how to distribute your remaining ability scores.

How to play Tryx:

Tryx loves to talk, as much as possible, and is generally friendly to all until they give him reason not to be. Tryx would be capable of being the face of the party, if others are not willing. Tryx does not mind speaking to strangers.

Tryx's innate social skills come from living in the bustling cities for his whole life. He has no affectionate relationships outside of his family, however he is not opposed to one. You can decide if his family still live there, if you wish.

He also aims to get the best deal possible at all points. Tryx will constantly haggle over the smallest things, even the price of a drink. This can often cause annoyance among the traders he tries it on with.

Tryx has tried, and failed, to become an affluent businessman in the city he resides in. As a result of the business' downfall, he owes big money to some less than enjoyable groups, and has taken up adventuring as a means of paying his debts.

In combat, Tryx avoids melee at all costs, instead opting to skirt around the edges of the battlefield taking shots from safer positions. He also offers little by means of healing, and is unlikely to rush in to aid a fallen comrade. There will be 100 characters similar to this inside. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Risks and challenges

The only risk to this project is the time it takes to create once we reach the goal. The aim is to have the compendium made and sent to all contributors by the end of June, 2017.
