About this project
This summer, I will be an artist-in-residency at Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, Colorado. For those of you not familiar with the concept of an art residency, the gist is that residencies provide the freedom and the studio space for emerging artists to devote their energy to creating new work during a given period of time.
Contrary to what some people do, I am not giving myself concrete goals to achieve during my time in Paonia. For over a decade I have been creating art on the floor of my tiny living room, in the little spurts of free time where I wasn't at my hectic day job. I have no idea where my creative inclinations will take me in Colorado, but I don't want to set myself up for failure by giving myself a specific project. I just want to create as much art as possible, and to see what happens when I have my own studio and 92 days to let my creative energy run wild.
The money that I'm raising will go in part towards art supplies (which I am procuring from Guild Art Supply in Northampton, MA--a fantastic independently owned & operated store---keep it local!) and also towards paying for the residency itself. Elsewhere Studios--as with most residencies--has artists pay for the time they spend there. This money goes towards paying for heat and electricity and upkeep of the house, and also goes right back into helping keep Elsewhere going, allowing even more artists to take advantage of this amazing residency program.
Thank you in advance to anyone who supports, in any way, my adventures as an artist in the Wild West! I've donated to projects on Kickstarter myself, and I can tell you from personal experience that watching an artist achieve their goal is pretty damn cool, even if you only gave them five bucks.
I cannot wait to repay your kindness in art, and to delight you with what I'm able to achieve at Elsewhere!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
PS: I would be remiss in not mentioning that this video was lit, shot, and edited by Karim Badwan, brother-in-law extraordinaire, who is the Assistant Professor of Dramatic Arts at West Virginia Wesleyan College. I cannot thank him enough for all of the work he did. Love you, Karim!
