I like doing radio because it's so intimate. The moment people hear your voice, you're inside their heads. Not only that, you're in there laying eggs.
- Doug Coupland
We're saying good-bye to Rochester. To the place that's been our artistic home for some of the most formative years in our lives. How else can we honor this but with a sense of nostalgia, love, and generosity? What if we add in some of our signature sass, a little bit of crazy, and maybe even some JELLO, too?
TALK/RADIO will be a singular event of original music/theatre created by friends and colleagues from the Eastman School of Music in order to celebrate the partnerships we've formed and that we hope to carry into the future.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
TALK/RADIO is an evening of music and theatre exploring seeming opposites like...
- LIVE/RECORDED ART
The end result promises to be a unique mash-up of dramatic styles and musical genres unlike anything we've attempted before. An single night of old-fashioned, new-fangled, computer-generated, ready-made, cutting-edge nonsense. And as much spectacle as we can pay for.
(But, to be really explicit - it's going to be a one-act show approximately an hour long combining several different historical radio plays in unique and modern ways that simulate the experience of listening to the radio, complete with original underscoring and Foley effects, and some serious onstage antics. If HIDE THE MOON explored the shocking, sexy underbelly of opera, then TALK/RADIO aims to explore the genre in a similar fashion, creating nostalgia for something you didn't even know you missed.)
WHY SHOULD I DONATE?
The actors, musicians, and technical help are donating their time and talent but the simple fact remains - shows cost money to produce. We need to rent a space, advertise, and buy a few necessities like boater hats and bow ties. We've decided not to charge for tickets. Instead, we are relying entirely on Kickstarter support to make this possible. Even if you can't come see the show in person, we urge you to become part of this artistic process from afar by taking advantage of some of our awesome sponsor rewards. Anyone can attend the show, but our donors will become a very special part of its creation. We mean this literally - the first three donors at the $75 level can choose a song for us to incorporate into the show!
This isn't the radio you listen to in the car.
This isn't the radio you download on a podcast.
This is TALK/RADIO - live, immediate, and intimate.
Unfiltered and unfettered.
No station breaks. No thirty second delays.
Risks and challenges
Making new stuff is hard. Especially on a budget. And a killer timeline. It may get messy, but we're game if you are. Come hell or high water, we'll be smokin' what we got on May 24th. Hope to see you there!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
