Shall We Play (Another) Game (While Waiting)?

Hi Team,

Hopefully we've made it very clear that we're extremely thankful for your backing and support of Defense Grid: Containment and Defense Grid 2.  Thank you so very much for your support.

While DG2 is going through all the necessary behind-the-scenes development to make sure that each tower is being created to do what it is supposed to do, that our level editor is developing levels like it is supposed to do, that each new mob is getting built and animated like it is supposed to be, we now have an opportunity to share with you the work of another team here at Hidden Path who has been working diligently on a new title for the studio called Windborne.

The upcoming DG2 beta will take place as soon as the code and assets are ready - don't worry - the DG2 team is hard at work.  Once the beta is ready we plan on testing out some multiplayer play and user created content submission and downloading with you (that's going to be the focus of the first beta experience).

Meanwhile, we are going to start sending out today to each Kickstarter backer, something completely unrelated:  Windborne preview experience codes. These codes are highly sought after right now, and let you in to the Windborne early preview experience   Today you get a floating island with which to explore, mine, build, and craft, as well as interact with just a few creatures in a very minor way.  You can also join your friends and work with them on one of your islands.

This alpha is helping us achieve stability and compatibility with player computers, and then we will be adding in the other populations of the world, allow for different and unique islands, and adding in the quests and the objectives that allow you to change the world and grow the ability of our Jin inhabitants who will be joining the game shortly.

The preview experience will last just for a limited time - perhaps 2 more weeks or so before it will end.  But, we wanted to share with you, our biggest supporters, what other things we're working on here at Hidden Path and let you get a sneak peak while also obtaining your feedback and thoughts.

So, you should receive an email with a Steam key later today that will open up the world of Windborne to you.

If you don't receive an email with a Windborne code in the next 24 hours, drop us a line at info [at] hiddenpath [dot] com, and let us know that you are a backer and didn't receive our email.  We'll respond to those requests as soon as we can.

      As a guy who was interested in Windborn for about two months now I like this "bonus". I am jsut interested in a few things if you don't mind: 1. What will be your long time goal with this? Beside of what you described in the text above. You will have much competitin because many games are trying to benefit from the hype around this genre, but msot of them are missing any plan, idea, goal beside of the "creative" idea (beeing modable as hell through the steam workshop might be one way to have an advantege above others). 2. How far from finished would you describe gameplay, artwork, generation of the world? I think all of that has much space to improve and tbh I think should be improved. Yeah I know "Alpha" but this is an Alpha about I think: telling you what I think so that you can think about making my thoughts about the final game better ;) 3. Please do not release this game to early to steams early access. From what I can tell you my experience with it is, many people will not get it because they are afraid of an unfinished product, other people will get it and are disappointed with an unfinished product and then other people will forget about it before it is done and you will be losing much of the hype. I know, getting people to test the game is important, but maybe make it the classic way: selecting people as beta testers and sty in contact with them. Or, if you will need some money faster, jsut sell it on your webpage first instead of on steam. Just use steam early access if you realy need the money fast. Because my experience with the people is that early access is destroying hype and interest...
      Hope my 2 cents will help you in any, even just little, way.

      Are we allowed to talk about this game through media outlets and/or social networking?

      There's a lot of promise in this game. So far the basic crafting is easy enough to get into and the graphics are very nice. I think when you add missions or quests to the game it would really make this something I want to play. We need goals.

      It can get boring sometimes when you aimlessly mine then craft things with no real purpose ;)

      Not at the moment. It is on the same engine as Defense Grid 2, so it is possible, but DG2 will likely go to multiple platforms before Windborne does.

      Neat! Are there plans for Mac OS and Linux versions of Windborne?

      Thank you for the key. The game seems like it has a lot of potential. It's not my type of game (I'm not big on minecrafty stuff), but the few hours I spent in your new little world makes it look promising. Those flying sheep are adorable!

      Of all the projects I have backed, this has been the most rewarding and thoughtfully done.
