Very excited to hear the recent news! I wish you all success and Godspeed on this project going forward and am eager to see DG2 when complete!

      Hi Claus,

We've never talked about an iPad version in the kickstarter. Are you mixing this game up with another one? Even if we did make an iPad version, there isn't a way to give backers free copies of iPad games with Apple to my knowledge.

      Jeff

    3. Claus-Charles Lingenbrink on May 8, 2013

      Great News!

I backed this project mainly for the iPad version that would come into play. Even though I have the basic Defense Grid for Mac installed, I really have no use for Containment, since it is not available on Steam for Mac.

With DG2 funded, my obvious question is: "Will there be an iPad version?".

      AWESOME!!! Congrats :)

You bet. Made some updates to the UserVoice section today. We'll be continuing to respond to the topics that rise most to the top in votes.

Sorry for the double comment, I'm not sure how that happened, again thanks for addressing this.

    7. Hidden Path Entertainment, AMD & Razer Creator on May 1, 2013

      Hi Craig,
You misunderstand the comment. We basically weren't taking action on the UserVoice section of the DG2 topics *until* we knew we had the money to initiate development and bring designers on board. We were delaying interacting on what would be or wouldn't be in the game until we knew what kind of budget and team size we had. Those are key variables that would impact whether or not we can include a feature in the game. Hope that helps clarify - the kickstarter didn't pay for all of DG2 as we would have liked. It paid for a portion, and all backers because of that were going to get DG2 when we could make it. If it had funded everything, that would have been right away after the KS that we would have engaged on the DG2 portion of Uservoice because we'd know our path and team size then. Now that we have the investment and we know our scope and team size, we can better respond.

According to the title of the kickstarter I paid for "Defense Grid 2" I understand the misleading reward tiers, I can also find many times when the game was promised--so hearing you say you were ignoring us because you weren't actually sure if you would make the sequel is concerning. Thank you for following through with Defense Grid 2.

    9. Samuel Vance Joyce on April 29, 2013

I hope DG2 is a graphically superior game trying to fit in with the standard "Next-Gen" is going to be setting. Have a busier screen with things flying around and stacks of detail, I always found DG1 to be quite empty sometimes!

I'm very excited to what you've got in store for us with DG2, it should be really fun.

I hope you consider another Kickstarter when DG2 is released (and if it's a great success, which it should be) for an expansion or DG3.

      @mrd
Not sure if its "new" but demonstrating that there's a proven market for a product is surely a valuable tool. I didn't back the larry KS, but that was part of the premise behind it, that the license holders said they would have to redo the 1st game and demonstrate success on a KS with proven demand before they could make future games with that license.

For board games, its even more valuable, since a physical printing run has to be made. And under estimating the demand for it means potential lost sales, over estimating means a loss of money as extra copies sit in a warehouse or on a shelf. So when a board game does a KS, they have a proven demand, and they can use the funding to make a larger print run that they might otherwise have. Like if 5,000 backers get in on a board game, they can probably do a 10,000 print run with the funding.

DG 2 is good news, and its way way better news that we will get free copies. You guys are awesome!

The enthusiasm and delight is so palpable it's brilliant watching you two and this is just FANTASTIC news.

This is something of a new "Kickstarter Effect" surely? Where the Kickstarter leads to a product which leads to external confidence in the group producing it.

Whether it is or not, I'm so happy that Defense Grid 2 is going to happen now.

    43. Ben H on April 25, 2013

Congratulations! I am excited to return to the DG universe. One thing that might be fun is a chase scene where you set up a perimeter defense from a prison exit. An AI escapes and your towers try and take down the chasing army before they capture the AI. The HUD lights up the tile at which the AI will be captured/die if not saved. The HUD could also highlight the unit that would do the capturing so you could focus your fire.

      Just a thought.

Awesome, just clocked over 180hours on Defence Grid, DG2 will be awesome if it is half as good as the first. An idea for some new content: how about some black hole tiles and if an alien is on red damage when they pass one they get sucked in or some grease tiles so they slip. The concept of some tiles as well as towers that alien can cross but get damage by doing so. You guys know what you are doing, this is just some food for thought.
