The Big Scary Poster Signing Event
Hello hello backers of Defense Grid!
We've been pretty quiet as we're getting very very close to shipping Containment to you and other Defense Grid players! Thank you again for your support to help bring this product to life! We'll have more to announce regarding Containment shortly including a release date later this month for the public, an earlier date when you the backers will receive it, and more! IF things go as we hope (and we don't know yet if they will), we may have something final for you to play as early as NEXT WEEK!
One quick note, though. One of the French voice actors was very sick the day we did the voice session so his audio files will be coming to us later than all the rest (from a make-up audio session). This means that unfortunately the French version of the game might not be ready for backers as early as all the other languages, though it should still beat the retail release date by a couple days at least.
In the meantime I wanted to give you an update on rewards that remain to be shipped out.
The new posters just arrived from the printer and we think they're pretty cool. They'll be packaged up alone for those just getting one poster, or along with the signed posters for those getting both, and combined with T-shirts, USB gun towers & audio buttons as those arrive in from the manufacturers for those getting them. We'll be combining your remaining rewards so shipping may not start for a few weeks. The art book content is getting completed and the pdf file of the art book will likely be available next month to those receiving it. The bound art book will then be shipped out to those backers getting that as well.
There will be extra game codes to send out once the game is launched as well for those backers who receive multiple copies. We'll try to get those out between the time when your beta converts to the final product and when the real product ships on Steam.
Our most daunting and scary task that we had yet to plan was how we were going to get twenty-some people to sign 600 of the 2,000 posters that were printed in a reasonable time so that we weren't spending more time signing than developing games, and of course we didn't want to smudge or damage the posters either.
So, Jessica, our office manager extraordinaire, found a large multipurpose room with 30 banquet tables and we used that space to put out 120 posters at a time and had everyone snake around the tables signing the posters. The system had us endlessly signing, with new posters ready for signature as we went back to the beginning. Four more table changes and 600 posters were signed in full! Everyone signed in the same spot on each poster, so we'll work to get out a signing key so that you can know who signed where on your poster too!
In the end we weren't sure how long it would take. We could imagine it taking as long as a five hours or more, but the team was super efficient in their signing and ended up signing 600 posters fully in just over 2 hours of time. Who knew? Well, now you do, should this info ever prove useful to you or others who have to do group poster signing.
Here are some pictures from our signing event this morning. We're excited to get these over to the Penny Arcade folks for shipping now, who will get them boxed up, addressed and shipped out over the upcoming weeks. We'll let you know when shipments start going out.
More info coming soon - stay tuned!
