The No-Update Update

Posted by Hidden Path Entertainment, AMD & Razer (Creator)

"Hey Hidden Path - anything new to report?"

We get this message in our inbox a lot.

The answer:

"No, not yet - though we're working hard to change that."

Here is where things are at:

Video Cards & Mice

We've received most of the mice with the final shipment due to arrive later this week or early next week we are told, and we've received a few of the video cards, with the remaining majority to arrive sometime later this week or early next week (though they may be taking longer in customs to come to us than anyone expected).  Either way, AMD and Razer are "on it" and working to make sure we get them, and as soon as we receive them, we begin the process of sending them to you if you pledged for them.

So, "September" isn't looking to be accurate for the video cards any more, but "as soon as we can" is still our mission.  We just need to have them ourselves to be able to send them to you.  That will happen soon.

Private Forums

We're "mostly done" with the private forums, but as some have speculated - the integration of the UserVoice features into our Vbulletin forum system is taking longer than expected.  Again, I'm hoping that it will be complete "later this week or early next week." (notice a theme?) We're working on the details, planning how you're going to be invited to the private forums, and making sure to test the path on how you'll join and jump in.

Digital Downloads

We're getting the wallpaper, soundtrack, ringtones, and Level Previewer ready for your eventual upcoming download soon (subject to your pledge tier - did your tier include this? - tiers that do: $20, $30, $50, $55, $60, $75, $80 $95, $100, $107, $108 and above include this).

Community Update for Defense Grid on Steam

There is going to be a game update for Defense Grid and among other things it will support:

- A supported weekly challenge feature, with the map and mode chosen by a vote of the members of the private backer forum

- Removal of the Kickstarter references and ticker, but all the minigame content will remain

- A way to view your current "credits" for future content through the game - let us know if we have it wrong

- Some minor bug fixes and updates

It is currently in testing which hopefully will be complete sometime later this week or early next week (I'm noticing a trend here).

Defense Grid: Containment

A lot of work and planning is already underway for Defense Grid: Containment.  There will still be time to get your ideas in from the private forums and from the level previewer, but we have a lot going already as we work towards our winter release.  Right now we have a development completion date in December with our current milestone plan, but that's going to be awful tight to also release that month, so I'm going to put it out there to you now, that I'm starting to suspect DG:Containment may end up releasing in January rather than December.  We'll still try for December, but that's what I'm seeing right now.  We'll keep you up to date.  We are still committed to getting those of you who have "Early Beta Access" as part of your pledge level access to some levels early so you can give us feedback during development.  That may be November-ish, we'll see.  That's my best view today as production is underway.

Gun Towers & Audio Buttons & More

I think I mentioned that we switched manufacturers for the audio buttons, and we should see the first samples from the new manufacturer soon.  The Gun Towers have been ordered and we're working with the supplier to get manufacturing underway shortly.  The T-shirts & Posters will go to manufacturing once you have helped choose which designs we'll be making on the private forums.  The art books will come together after each associated product ships.  The DG:Containment art book will feature concept art from the very beginning of Defense Grid to the end of Containment, and then the DG2 art book will ship after DG2.

With respect to DG2 a few good conversations are still underway to close the funding gap and they are going well, but we'll have to wait and see if it leads us to finalized funding for the game.  That's our goal and objective.

I think that's it for now.  I'm hoping the next update you receive from us will be directly from us via email (rather than through Kickstarter Updates) and it will lead you to the new private forums, will point you at the digital downloads if applicable, and will be updating you on video card an mice shipments if that applies to you as well.

Thanks much for your continued support!!

Jeff

Thanks Brian - I think we're on track now - less a vbulletin problem and more an integration with UserVoice, but it sounds like it is getting solved.

The Kickstart experience for Defense Grid 2 has been friendly and painless. I appreciate your update.

You guys have been working with Valve too much. Apparently, Valve Time is contagious.

Weekly challenge on steam is wonderful....(have recently been trying the ones mentioned in the forum...)

While KS updates are nice, I think part of the hope is that traffic to the backer forum would be keeping backers of the project in the loop. Plus, the comments here generally have really slowed down in the past couple of weeks.

Wow guys, you're doing a lot of shipping. Don't let shipping T&M

Also, I like Kickstarter Updates and will miss them... It may be good for you to do those occasionally to remind the KS community about your project.

Just saw you're running vBulletin for the private forums. I'm the owner of vBadvanced.com and have been working with vBulletin for nearly a decade, so if you need any additional help just let me know.

So if I already have a forum account, could I use that or would I have to make a new one just for the private forums?

You guys have a perversely good sense of timing. Either that or you've been eavesdropping. heheh Beat Darwin and I were literally *just* talking about these things when the e-mail notification of the KS update came across my inbox.
